The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 140: A Society Ruled by Law
After she spoke, Daisy Archer shot Wesley Kane a look. "Wesley, take Vera home!"
The mother-son duo immediately began to flank her, closing in on Vera Xavier.
Vera tried to pull away, but Cara Preston gripped her hand tightly. "That’s right, sister. You’re married to Wesley Kane now. It’s not appropriate for you to live with the Preston family anymore. You should just go live with the Kanes!"
Vera turned to look at Cara Preston. Cara’s lips curved into a faint smile, and her whole demeanor was exceptionally sinister, yet her eyes shone with a strange excitement.
Vera gave a cold smile. ’She was all too familiar with this side of Cara. In her past life, right before she died, Cara had looked at her in the exact same way. But in this life, there was no way she would let Cara get what she wanted.’
Without a word, just before Daisy Archer and Wesley Kane could reach them, she twisted Cara Preston’s arm back. Cara’s attention was so focused on holding Vera in place that she never imagined Vera would retaliate.
With a sickening SNAP, Cara Preston’s arm popped out of its socket. Vera then landed a heavy kick on Cara’s rear. Cara screamed and stumbled toward Wesley Kane. Wesley dodged aside, flicking his hand away. The motion made it look as if he had flung Cara into the gutter at the side of the road.
The gutter, to put it bluntly, was a garbage dump. In an era with little environmental awareness, wastewater from the school kitchen was channeled directly into it. Over time, it had become a repository for all sorts of filth, and the water within was black and stagnant.
Cara Preston landed face-first in the gutter. She had been screaming from the intense pain, so as she fell, her open mouth swallowed a mouthful of the black, foul-smelling water.
The sudden turn of events left everyone stunned. Of course, no one was in a more disgusting state than Cara Preston herself.
She prided herself on being a city girl who was always clean and pretty, but this one fall stripped her of both. To make matters worse, with her arm dislocated, she couldn’t even push herself up.
Vera cursed inwardly, ’Serves you right,’ but out loud she exclaimed, "Wesley Kane, are you even human? How could you hit my sister like that!"
Wesley Kane was stunned for a moment but quickly recovered. After a quick calculation, he decided to ignore Cara Preston and went straight for Vera’s hand. "Vera, stop making a scene. Come home with me!"
He grabbed Vera’s hand and tried to shove her into the nearby minivan. Vera screamed, "Help! Kidnappers! I’m being kidnapped!"
Her shouts brought the school’s security guards running. Seeing the situation, they were shocked. ’These kidnappers are brazen, grabbing someone right at the school gate!’ They immediately surrounded Wesley, shouting, "Let her go!"
Shane Caldwell happened to be arriving at school just then. When he saw what was happening, even though he and Vera didn’t get along, he couldn’t just stand by and watch someone drag her away. He charged forward and threw a punch right at Wesley Kane’s face.
Yelping in pain, Wesley Kane was forced to let go of Vera. She immediately scrambled over to the security guards, her eyes red. "Officers, please help me!"
A guard pulled her protectively behind him. "Don’t be afraid, young lady. We live in a society governed by law. As long as I’m here, I won’t let these scoundrels get away with this."
Vera then added, "My sister is still in the gutter. Would someone be so kind as to help her out?"
Cara Preston was indescribably filthy. Her once-pretty face was completely caked in black mud. Not a single person was willing to help her. In the end, she had to miserably haul herself out.
