The Celibate Tycoon Has Fallen-Chapter 29: He’s Too Rich; I’m Not Good Enough
The night was bone-chillingly cold, and Yelena Hughes’ calves trembled.
She glanced at Jasper Yale, who was standing still, "Please, young master."
"You go ahead."
Yelena Hughes stepped down two stairs and felt a cold sweat on her back, "You wouldn’t want to push me from behind, would you? Falling down like this could be fatal."
Jasper Yale followed her silently. After descending one floor, the sensor light turned on, and Yelena Hughes quickly stopped.
On the stairway landing, there was a rat, surprisingly fearless upon seeing people.
It perked its ears and looked at them. If the enemy doesn’t move, neither will I. A hand appeared on Yelena Hughes’ shoulder as Jasper Yale’s fingers tightened around it.
Yelena Hughes swallowed and looked back at him, "Young master, please chase it away."
"..."
Jasper Yale sneered, "Isn’t this thing from your home? You should handle it."
"What do you mean my home? There’s no rat in my house." Yelena Hughes said, waving her hand, but the rat remained unmoved, chirping away.
Cold sweat appeared on Jasper Yale’s forehead. He lived comfortably, and aside from one childhood incident, he hadn’t seen such disgusting things since.
Yelena Hughes’ shoulder was painfully gripped by him, and his breathing was somewhat tight, "I told you to chase it away!"
"Fine, I’ll do it." Yelena Hughes said and was about to go downstairs, but Jasper Yale wouldn’t release his grip.
What if she chased it away and it ran back up?
"Why not call Hailey Jenkins?"
Ridiculous. At this time, she wanted to call more people to watch? "Yelena Hughes, you’re just like this thing, you should handle it."
"Young master, could you not speak so hurtfully? I’m human."
Yelena Hughes got a bit angry too, took off her slipper, and forcefully threw it. Her aim was precise, hitting the rat.
It squeaked and scurried downstairs.
Yelena Hughes hopped down the stairs, wanting to pick up her slipper, but Jasper Yale grabbed her arm. "You don’t mind it’s dirty?"
"I’ll wash it when I go back."
Jasper Yale pulled her a few steps forward, "Walk me down."
Yelena Hughes had one foot without a shoe and had to step on the ground. Jasper Yale followed behind, noticing her raised foot with a bandage.
Hailey Jenkins was almost asleep waiting in the car. Seeing Jasper Yale approaching, he quickly got out to open the door.
Jasper Yale bent down to sit inside, and Hailey Jenkins thought Yelena Hughes would also get in, so he gestured for her to sit.
She stood outside, the wind blowing the washed-out nightgown against her body. "Young master, take care."
Jasper Yale tapped his knee twice, "Yelena Hughes, look at yourself—you look like someone sending guests off after a night’s events..."
He had such a handsome face, an untouchable person, but those words were chilling to the bone.
Did he think she wouldn’t feel pain? Yes, Yelena Hughes begged him, was humble, but didn’t need Jasper Yale to remind her repeatedly.
He saw Yelena Hughes shivering, her nose red from the cold, her eyes misty.
Jasper Yale left the last few words unsaid.
For some reason, he felt those words were too harsh. "That’s not what I meant."
Hailey Jenkins’ eyes flashed in surprise; this was not typical of the young master.
Yelena Hughes forced a smile that was worse than crying, "You’re right, then I’ll welcome you again next time, young master."
Jasper Yale’s brow furrowed deeper, "Go."
Hailey Jenkins hurriedly closed the car door, and through the dim glass, Jasper Yale saw Yelena Hughes standing still.
She looked so thin, like she could be blown away by the wind.
Anne Hughes was worried and came down the stairs with a jacket. She saw Jasper Yale’s car had already left.
She placed the slipper beside Yelena Hughes’ foot, "Sis, put it on."
"Anne, why did you come down?"
Anne Hughes wrapped her in the jacket, "Hurry upstairs, it’s too cold outside."
Yelena Hughes was very resilient, and looking at Anne Hughes’ gradually rosy face, she knew it was all worth it.
"Sis, what is your relationship with this person? Why did he come out of your room?"
Yelena Hughes put on her slippers. Anne was sensitive, so she had to find a believable excuse, "He’s pursuing me, but I don’t want to agree."
Anne’s mouth opened wide, "Why? He’s so handsome and tall, why not agree?"
Yelena Hughes really wanted to say he’s bad, but she could only say, "He’s too wealthy, I don’t match him."
Returning to the room, Yelena Hughes took out her phone and wrote "buy emergency contraceptive pills" in the notes.
But she quickly deleted it; it was too important to risk forgetting.
Nancy Alden seemed to have calmed down after a night’s chill. When Jasper Yale pushed open the door, he saw her sitting on the bed.
"Come down for breakfast."
Jasper Yale came to the bedside, bent over to embrace her, but Nancy Alden encircled his neck, "Jasper, can you promise me something?"
"Sure."
"Don’t say it so confidently and then fail to do it."
He saw her eyes were red and swollen; she must have cried a lot last night. "I can do it, tell me."
"Don’t give Yelena Hughes any more medicine."
He didn’t immediately agree, "Her sister’s condition is quite severe; without Heart Protection Peace, it could be fatal."
"But every time you give it to her, I remember you two sleeping together. Is it because of those pills that she’s good to you?" Nancy Alden’s eyes reddened again, "You just said you could do it."
Jasper Yale couldn’t help but think of that face; Yelena Hughes seemed obedient, but if it weren’t for Anne Hughes, she wasn’t truly weak.
Nancy Alden saw he was still silent and dropped her hands, "You can’t do it, can you?"
"Is this what will make you happy?"
Nancy Alden nodded, pursing her lips, "Yes, Jasper, people die every day, and we’re not saviors. Besides, that medicine hasn’t even been marketed, giving it to Yelena Hughes is unfair to others who can’t buy it."
"Okay."
Nancy Alden’s eyes, originally dimmed, brightened again. She knew one Yelena Hughes could never compete with her.
About a week later, Yelena Hughes pulled open the drawer, seeing the last box of medicine remaining.
She didn’t dare wait for the medication to run out before contacting Jasper Yale, fearing unforeseen circumstances.
Before calling Jasper Yale, Yelena Hughes kept reassuring herself; it would be fine, surely it would go smoothly.
The man’s voice came quickly from the other end, "Hello."
"Hello, young master," Yelena Hughes lowered her posture, "I want to ask you for a few more boxes of medicine, we’re almost out at home."
"There’s no medicine left."
Yelena Hughes was shocked, "What do you mean?"
Jasper Yale could hear her tone was panicked and anxious. He felt a bit sympathetic but could no longer help her, "Our transaction ends here."
