Chapter 159: Chapter 159: She’s Actually on a Date with Another Man?

Yelena Hughes lifted her gaze up to the man’s mesmerizing face, still stubborn and silent.

Lindsay Walsh received the news and quickly hurried over.

"Yelena."

Jasper Yale nearly didn’t recognize her when he saw her; Lindsay Walsh had lost a noticeable amount of weight, and her hair had turned significantly gray. "How is Anne?"

Yelena Hughes just shook her head, unable to speak, and Lindsay Walsh regretfully raised her hand to slap herself, "It’s all my fault, why did I go out late at night?"

"Mom!" Yelena Hughes quickly grasped her wrist, "Even if we were all home, this couldn’t have been avoided. Don’t be like this."

Jasper Yale stayed there, looking somewhat out of place, but he leaned against the wall across from them and did not leave.

Reasonably, Anne should have been fine, just knocked out, but when the doctor came out, his face was full of seriousness.

Yelena Hughes dragged her heavy legs over, glancing behind the doctor.

"Excuse me, how is my sister?"

"She has a very serious heart condition, she was saved this time, but it’s not looking good."

Yelena Hughes’s brow immediately furrowed; this news was not unfamiliar to her, but hadn’t Anne already escaped this nightmare?

"What’s wrong with her? She’s been taking her medicine regularly, taking Heart Protection Peace, which has been really effective."

The doctor took off his mask; the lights at the entrance of the emergency room were glaringly bright, and being indirect was the last thing you wanted with patients.

"The medicine can save her life, true, but the best way for her to live is to have a heart transplant surgery."

Yelena Hughes was bewildered by what she heard, "But we consulted with doctors before, they said even surgery wasn’t an option..."

"Many hospitals don’t have the capability for such surgeries, even our hospital can’t perform it. Her heart has significant issues, and if the medication fails to sustain her, it could be a matter of life and death. You should seriously consider this."

The doctor had said all he could, "For now, there’s no immediate danger; she’ll be out soon."

Yelena Hughes felt like a heavy stone was weighing on her heart, both heavy and stifling, making it hard to breathe for a moment.

That night, Anne stayed in the hospital, and after Yelena Hughes completed the admission procedures, she left Lindsay Walsh to stay with her in the ward.

As she walked out of the hospital, she saw Jasper Yale’s car parked at the entrance, seemingly waiting for her.

Yelena Hughes walked over and opened the car door.

She quietly sat inside, and throughout the ride, Jasper Yale waited for her to speak.

For her to ask him for help.

He had a multitude of resources in his hand, finding someone to perform surgery for Anne was not difficult.

The car reached the building below, the engine was turned off, and people dispersed. Yelena Hughes threw out a thank you and was about to leave.

Jasper Yale gently held her arm, "Don’t you have anything to say?"

"Young Master," Yelena Hughes was feeling empty, "Do you think my sister can undergo surgery?"

"I’ll arrange for the most authoritative doctor to examine her tomorrow. I’m not an expert in this field, so I can’t say for sure."

Yelena Hughes understood that certain things required conditions to be met.

But she hadn’t made up her mind yet, "Thanks to the Young Master first."

After saying this, she opened the car door and got out.

Jasper Yale did not stop her; he would let her have a taste and draw her in, which he had done successfully multiple times before.

Yelena Hughes returned home, and in the room, water was nearly overflowing from inside. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

The curtains were burnt, the walls were blackened with soot, thankfully the fire didn’t spread, only a corner of the quilt was singed.

Yelena Hughes started to clean up, and after mopping the floor, she was exhausted.

She sat on the edge of the bed, sorting through the night’s events, then suddenly remembered something and ran to the window.

On the windowsill was a potted plant, its branches completely burnt away. Yelena Hughes dumped out the soil from the pot and found a sealed plastic bag inside.

Inside, it contained her father’s belongings.

There wasn’t anything particularly special, just ID documents and some unremarkable small items.

Yelena Hughes looked through them one by one until she picked up a small figurine.

She fiddled with it and discovered that the head of the figurine could be unscrewed. She pulled it hard, and it turned out to be a USB drive.

She hurriedly grabbed her computer, plugged it in to see what was inside, but a prompt popped up showing that the files were encrypted.

Yelena Hughes tried using her and Anne’s birthdays as passwords, but both failed.

She pulled out the USB drive, clenching it tightly in her hand. Was the person who set the fire tonight after this?

Could it mean that it is also related to her father’s death?

Yelena Hughes quickly hid it close to her body.

The next day.

Jasper Yale had arranged everything for Anne’s examination. The doctor was not in town, so Hailey Jenkins specially went to the airport to pick him up.

Anne underwent a complete examination in the hospital. When Yelena Hughes was called into a meeting room, she couldn’t hide her nervousness.

"Are you the patient’s...?"

"Sister."

"Alright, please have a seat."

The doctor understood her nervousness and anguish, so he got straight to the point, "Currently, with such a severe heart condition, surgery is deemed almost impossible because it’s unlikely to succeed. Once on the operating table, it’s almost hopeless to save her."

Yelena Hughes felt herself collapse upon hearing that.

"However, two years ago, there was a successful case performed by Dr. Chandler at Briarwood Hospital. He’s known as Maestro Chandler. But he’s already retired and moved abroad to enjoy his retirement. Would you like to try?"

Yelena Hughes stared at the pile of examination reports on the table, "My sister has been taking Heart Protection Peace recently, I thought she was fine."

"Without relying on those medications to sustain her, she wouldn’t have made it this far. But..."

The doctor paused, knowing that although the words might be cruel, they needed to be said, "If the surgery succeeds, your sister can truly live."

Anne’s health had deteriorated following the traumatic loss of their father, becoming increasingly weak and close to breaking down.

"To contact Dr. Chandler, you might consider speaking with Young Master; he might be able to persuade Maestro Chandler."

Yelena Hughes stayed alone in the meeting room, sitting there for a long time. No one knew what she was thinking during that time.

Jasper Yale waited two days without seeing her come for him.

However, he had the patience, for it’s the long game that catches the biggest fish.

But what Jasper Yale didn’t know was that while he was waiting for Yelena Hughes to take the bait, she was already trying every possible way to save herself.

...

In the restaurant, a man and a woman sat facing each other.

Yelena Hughes had dressed up meticulously, her light camel coat placed on the chair beside her. She smiled sweetly, radiating charm that was incredibly captivating to the man.

"Young Dr. Chandler is young and promising; it’s incredibly hard to schedule an interview with you."

The man sitting across from her was Raymond Chandler, the son of Maestro Chandler.

The two chatted happily, and from the first glance, Dr. Chandler was taken aback by Yelena Hughes’s striking presence.

Jasper Yale walked down from the top floor of the restaurant, with his car parked right at the entrance. He smelled of alcohol, and didn’t get in immediately.

As he walked a few steps forward, passing by the floor-to-ceiling window of the ground floor restaurant, he suddenly caught sight of Yelena Hughes.

She was smiling radiantly, her hands interlaced, supporting her chin, her eyes full of the man sitting across from her.
