Chapter 282: The Magical Resort (Part Four)

Emily was waiting for the drinks that she had just ordered when her gaze noticed a couple of ladies next to her who were constantly giggling about something. She and Shadow had stopped by the bar to get some drinks before heading to the hot spring.

She was about to ignore them but one of them piqued her interest as the woman stood up from her seat and headed somewhere, and it didn’t take long before Emily realized who was that woman’s target.

Her fingers curled up into a tight fist as she glared at the woman’s back who was still heading toward Shadow totally unfazed by her glares.

"Mam, here’s your order." The bartender notified as he placed two glasses of tequila cocktails that she had ordered a few moments ago.

Emily turned to look at the table where Shadow had been waiting for her only to find the woman standing there as she chirped like a bird while talking to Shadow. Letting out a frustrated sigh, she grabbed the drinks and headed toward their table.

"I am actually looking forward to..."

"Here’s your drink," Emily stated loudly, cutting off the woman before she could finish her sentence, as she took a seat next to Shadow on the couch and placed their drinks on the table.

"That was fast," Shadow responded in an impressive tone as he picked up his drink and took a small sip. "It’s strong." He started while putting the glass back on the table.

Emily just gave him a little smile before she turned her attention to the woman who was still standing there. "And... you are?" She asked while taking a sip of her drink.

"Hi, I’m Bethany Clark. Are you his girlfriend?" The woman asked straightforwardly while eyeing Emily from head to toe as if she was looking at her opponent.

Emily opened her mouth but then closed it. What was she supposed to say? She was indeed not Shadow’s girlfriend. Then what right did she have to stop the woman from approaching him? And what was wrong with her in the very first place? Why was she being so protective of him all of a sudden?

The countless questions filled her brain, confusing her and making her feel stupid. Shouldn’t she be happy if Shadow could find someone to love? As his friend, shouldn’t she be supportive of him getting a girlfriend? Then why the thought of him being with any other girl was making her heart ache like a dagger had been pierced through it.

"Your silence is making me think that my guess was right. It looks like you two aren’t a couple unlike it seems at the first sight. Then I think I still have a chance here." The woman, Bethany, stated happily as she gave Emily a sloppy grin before she turned her attention towards Shadow.

Emily felt her heart getting heavier with each passing second. She was no longer sure what was making her feel so low - the Bethany woman or the questions that had attacked her with no exit left for her to escape.

She was too lost in her thoughts that she didn’t pay any attention to what was going on around her. It was only when she felt the warmth of Shadow’s hand over hers as he tangled their fingers together before giving it a light squeeze.

"You are wrong, Miss. The person sitting beside me at this moment is the most important one in my life and no one will ever be able to replace her at any cost." Shadow answered the woman as he stood up and made Emily follow his suit. "Have a nice evening."

Emily was totally at a loss as she followed behind Shadow who was still holding her hand as he headed out of the bar. She noticed the grim look on the woman’s face as they left her behind.

"Damn! We forgot the drinks." Shadow suddenly stopped before they could enter the elevator and finally turned to face her. "Should I go and get them?" He asked.

Emily hurriedly shook her head negatively but didn’t say anything at all. What was she supposed to say?

Shadow studied her in silence for a few seconds before he suddenly pulled her closer, making a gasp escape Emily’s lips as she stared at him with wide eyes.

"If something like this happens ever again, you are not allowed to step back, Princess. Even if we are not a couple, I belong to you and only you. And for me, you are my entire world. So, never let anyone make you feel otherwise." Shadow’s eyes glowed brightly as he spoke in a deep but low voice.

Emily just stared at him in complete silence and as he tried to pull her toward the elevator, her feet refused to move.

Shadow stopped and turned to look at her, his eyes searching hers in confusion. "What is it, Princess?"

The question was stuck on the very tip of her tongue but Emily just couldn’t find her voice to ask it loudly, or maybe what she couldn’t find wasn’t her voice but her courage.

"It’s nothing," Emily muttered softly as she shook her head slightly as she moved forward and entered the waiting elevator.

Shadow followed behind her but the look on his face clearly stated that he was not believing her words.

"See. This is why I should not have come here." He suddenly spoke as he took his place against the elevator wall.

"What?" Emily was confused by his words but not for too long. "Wait, NO! No, Shadow. It’s not you."

Shadow moved to stand next to her as he looked down into her eyes as he asked, "Really, Princess? Then tell me what is it? What is the problem if it’s not me?"

There was silence in the lift for the next few seconds before Emily finally spoke, "It’s me. I’m the problem."

Shadow squinted his eyes as he looked at her in question, "What are you talking about, Princess?"

Emily remained silent, not because she didn’t know what to say but because she couldn’t muster the courage to accept her true feelings let alone confess them.
