The Black Necromancer-Chapter 309 Dancing In The Shadows
Elena's tail slowly swayed behind her as she hid among the branches and leaves of a tree. Beneath her, several Demons moved about silently as they snuck through the forest. These Demons were mere scouts that had been sent to gather information about the camps of the defenders.
When the team of scouts checked the area, the rendezvoused in a close location to share what they had found before splitting up again. Elena saw this as he time to act.
Before the war had begun, thanks to Leon, she had been able to change her class to that of a Shadow Dancer. The class was one that excelled in stealth and assassination. Right now, she was utilizing her meager control over the shadows to mask her presence and hide her body. It was already quite late in the evening, and the sun had begun setting, so it was easy for her to use the shadows to her advantage.
Whoosh!
Elena vanished into the shadows on the coming night without shaking a single leaf. She appeared behind a lone scout and plunged her dagger right into his heart. He tried to alert his comrades, but before he could, a strange pulse of mana went through his body and his mind was plunged into darkness.
Elena quickly moved again, vanishing into the shadows. A minute later, she had brought down another one. Like that, she soon eliminated all the scouts that were in her area of influence.
'I'm on shift till morning.' She thought to herself as she perched herself on a high cliff with some vegetation where she could maintain a good view of the surrounding area. One of the perks of her class was that her night vision was improved even further than what it used to be. The encroaching darkness did not seem to mess with her vision one bit.
Like that, the night passed, fairly uneventful to Elena. The team of stealthy scouts was the most exciting thing that had happened. Soon, the sun rose in the distance and lit up the forest. However, Elena was neatly tucked in a shadow that made sure she was not exposed in the slightest even under the light of the sun.
A bird chirped in the distance and Elena's ears perked up. The bird chirped in a unique rhythm that let her knew that the person in charge of the next watch had arrived. She quickly moved through the trees, jumping swiftly from shadow to shadow until she reached the point where the change would occur. There, a middle aged lady stood with a bird on her shadow. The bird was constantly chirping in that same rhythm.
"Hana." Elena jumped out of the shadows and landed before the woman.
"Oh! Elena, you scared me." Hana laughed and placed her hand on her chest. She had still not gotten used to Elena's ability to just pop out from shadows. It gave her a scare every time she changed shift with Elena.
"Haha, sorry." Elena laughed.
"No problem. Go and rest, I can handle it until the next shift." Hana patted Elena's shoulder she she used her own magic to conceal herself.
Hana was a Light magic user. She used light to hide her body through refractions of light. She bent the light around her body, instead of letting it reflect, so it hid her image quite well if the strength gap between herself and the other person was not too much. ƒr𝙚𝙚𝘸e𝚋𝐧૦ѵ𝒆𝒍.𝒄𝒐m
Elena quickly left the area, and by using some hidden teleportation formations, she returned to a camp that had been set up in one of the forest areas in the Desolate Lands.
Over time, the scale of the war had gradually grown and more people were invested in the war. The camp that she was currently in was one that was headed by an Orc Shaman. The large, green skinned Orc was a warrior mage, like most Orc Shamans. He had come with many other warriors from his tribe.
Elena arrived in the camp and surprisingly ran into the large man as soon as she left the building where the formation was located.
"Oh, hi Corrun." Elena greeted the man. For such a large a bulky being, the Orc's name was rather deceiving. Anyone who heard it would say that it lacked the boldness of a usual Orc's name. However, it was not that bad.
"Hello, Elena. How was your shift?" Corrun asked.
"Quite fine. I took out a team of five Demon scouts. They might start using Demonic Beasts to scout in order to limit their casualties." Elena said and walked to the side of the building where a darker shadow was casted. She activated one of the skills she had gained with the class and the shadow in that area instantly became a few shades darker.
Thud!
Several bodies dropped out of the shadow, dead and devoid of life. The veins in their bodied had turned black and made them look ten times more menacing.
"Well done, the credit will surely go to you." Corrun nodded his head. "Take some rest and prepare for your next shift." He told her and stepped into the building.
"Thank you! Where are you going?" She thanked him and also expressed her curiosity on where he was going. After all, he was the one in charge of this camp. Him leaving was something rather strange.
"I heard Leon Cromwell has returned, and I have been summoned by my father to meet him." Corrun replied.
"Oh, Leon is back? I'll go with you!" Elena's eyes sparkled when she heard that piece of news.
"Very well, then. I heard you two are friends. Can you tell me what he is like?" Corrun asked as they walked into the building together. They made their way to the formation that would take them closer to Fort White and stepped on it. A soldier to the side of it quickly activated it and the vanished in a curtain of light.
