Chapter 63: Charlotte wants her man

The soft morning light filtered through the sheer curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. Maya slowly blinked awake. She adjusted her eyes and found herself nestled in the crook of Dalton’s arm, his steady breathing providing a comforting rhythm for her.

The bed was a tangle of sheets, and Maya could feel the slight weight of Dalton’s body against hers—a reassuring presence that made her smile. Dalton stirred and opened his eyes to meet hers.

"Good morning," he murmured, his voice husky with sleep. His eyes sparkled with warmth and affection, causing Maya to feel a flutter in her chest.

"Good morning," Maya replied, her voice barely above a whisper. She shifted closer, feeling the heat radiating from him, and Dalton instinctively wrapped his arm tighter around her, pulling her in. He pressed a gentle kiss to Maya’s forehead, and she melted into him, savoring the warmth and safety of his embrace.

But suddenly, the door barged open, startling Maya and Dalton. It was Charlotte.

"Oops, I didn’t know you were here, Dalton," Charlotte said, looking slightly embarrassed.

"You should have knocked," Dalton scolded her, clearly annoyed.

"My excitement got the better of me. I’m sorry, Maya. I will remember my manners next time," Charlotte said, trying to put on a remorseful look, but Maya didn’t buy it.

Charlotte walked to Maya’s side of the bed and sat down on the comforter. She smiled and said, "Maya, I want you to add me to the list of people you make breakfast for."

"Okay, I will make breakfast for you too from now on," Maya said politely, even though she was quite irritated with Charlotte.

"Thank you, you are such a darling," Charlotte kissed Maya on the cheeks as if they were friends.

Maya smiled weakly, feeling very uncomfortable.

Charlotte stood up and moved to Dalton’s side, sitting so close to him that it ignited a surge of anger in Maya’s veins. The way Charlotte shamelessly sized up Dalton’s bare, muscular chest was driving Maya insane with jealousy.

Charlotte wants her man; it’s written all over her face. Dalton’s cluelessness about it infuriates Maya even more.

"Dalton," Charlotte said, stroking his arm while smiling at Maya.

Maya feels like committing murder. Charlotte is deliberately trying to provoke her and she is succeeding.

Dalton pulled his arm away uncomfortably, rejecting Charlotte’s touch. He glanced at his back, grabbed the shirt that was lying on the headboard, and put it on quickly.

Maya smirked when she saw the dejected look on Charlotte’s face. Dalton doesn’t want her, and she hoped Charlotte would get the message.

"Do you need anything from me, Charlotte?" Dalton asked.

"Yes, there is a charity gala organized by the human rights organization I work with. It’s tonight, and I would like you to come with me," Charlotte said.

Dalton took Maya’s hand, rubbing it. . "I have a date night with Maya. I’m sorry. You can ask one of the twins to accompany you." He declined.

But Charlotte didn’t accept defeat; she pressed on. "The human rights organization is hosting this charity gala in honor of victims of domestic violence, and some of the victims we have aided will be attending. Dalton, you are a powerful man. Your presence and personal donation to show your support will bring a big smile to these victims’ faces and ease their fears, knowing that one of the most powerful men in the country is on their side. Please come with me." Her words were so compelling.

Charlotte looked in Maya’s direction and added, "I know Maya won’t mind if you guys reschedule your date night. Victims of domestic violence are more important, right?"

Dalton pulled closer to Maya. "I will still decline. Being with you is more important to me than anything," he whispered in her ear.

Maya looked away and gritted her teeth; Charlotte had backed her into a corner. , If she makes Dalton choose their date night over a charity gala held in honor of domestic violence victims, she will appear cold-hearted and lacking sympathy for the victims. As a victim of abuse, she will feel overwhelming guilt if she doesn’t encourage Dalton to show his support for the victims.

"I don’t mind. You can go to the charity gala with Charlotte, Dalton."

"I need to take my bath," Maya said as she pulled off the comforter and rushed into the shower, anger creeping inside her.

Oh, she hates Charlotte with every fiber of her being. Charlotte had come to this house to ruin their relationship, and it was working.

Maya returned home from the restaurant at 4:30 PM to prepare dinner before heading back. She looked incredibly dejected and downcast. Her mood was worse than it had been the day before.

She wanted nothing more than to go straight to bed and force herself to sleep, hoping that the anger in her heart would fade away. However, she knew she had to fulfill her responsibilities as a chef.

Since Dalton would be attending the charity gala with Charlotte, she would only be cooking for the brothers.

"I told you she has a crush on your man," Aiden said from behind Maya as she was covering the dishes she had just prepared with a stainless steel food cover.

Maya grimaced. "Yeah, you’re right. Happy now?" She rolled her eyes.

"I’m not happy. I can’t stand that two-faced witch and I don’t want her anywhere near Dalton," Aiden said with spite.

"Anger doesn’t look good on you," Aiden said, scrutinizing her face. "I hope you’re not just going to sulk and let her mess with your relationship. Do something, Maya."

"What do you want me to do? Tell Dalton to kick her out of his mansion?" Maya shouted, releasing her frustration on Aiden.

Aiden shrugged. "Dalton will choose you over her. Use your power."

"You make it sound so easy when it’s not," Maya replied, but Aiden had already left the kitchen, not hearing her words.

Maya quickly returned to the restaurant, wanting to avoid seeing Dalton and Charlotte dressed up and leaving for the charity gala.

At the restaurant, Maya’s anger was still gnawing at her.

While she was on her work phone speaking with a supplier about providing vegetables for the restaurant, her phone beeped. She finished her conversation with the supplier before checking her phone.

Her phone beeped again. She unlocked it to find a text message from an unknown number.

She opened the message:

Hi Maya, this is Charlotte.

I got your number from River. I was wondering which of the pictures you think I should post on my Instagram."

Maya replied: What photos?

Charlotte then sent the photos.

Maya nearly dropped her phone as she looked at the images on the screen.

In all the photos, Charlotte was all over Dalton, behaving as if she were his girlfriend.

Maya felt nauseous. She will be a mean bitch and tell Dalton to get rid of her.
