Chapter 49: kiss

Dalton gazed intently at Maya, waiting for her response.

"I can help you find your father," he offered.

Maya’s eyes went cold. "No, don’t bother. I don’t care about that man. I don’t want him in my life. Why should I look for him when he abandoned me when I was a baby " she said icily.

"Okay, if that’s your wish," Dalton said, choosing not to press further, respecting her decision.

A sports car pulled up in front of the house. The door opened, and Aiden stepped out.

"There you are!" Aiden jogged over to them.

"Here you go," Aiden thrust a brand-new phone into Maya’s hand. "It’s the latest iPhone."

"Thanks!" Maya’s eyes shone brightly as she unwrapped the phone.

"You got her a phone?" Dalton shot a deadly stare at Aiden.

Aiden pulled Dalton away from Maya’s hearing. She barely noticed, as she was too engrossed in fawning over her new phone.

"It’s not a gift," Aiden explained. "Maya asked me to buy her a phone when I visited her, and she insisted on paying for it with her own money."

"Hmm," Dalton grunted in displeasure. He planned to sneak the money she spent on the phone into her next paycheck.

"Maya’s aunt, Soraya’s mom, has arrived at the airport. I will go pick her up," Aiden informed Dalton.

Days ago, Maya’s aunt called Dalton to request a visit to his house to see her niece. Dalton was very reluctant to agree, as she is Fredrick Hathaway’s sister, and she did nothing to stop her brother from abusing Maya. However, he eventually gave in.

"Go pick her up, but I will speak to her before Maya sees her, just like we did with those two friends of hers."

"Alright."

"I hope she is coming alone?" Dalton asked.

"Yep," Aiden confirmed.

Dalton felt relieved. He didn’t want Soraya anywhere near Maya. She might try to harm her again.

That’s another reason Dalton felt it was dangerous to trust Maya’s aunt: her daughter had tried to hurt Maya. Both her brother and daughter hate Maya, and she might harbor a disdain for Maya as well.

They returned to Maya.

"I love it. Thanks," Maya said to Aiden.

"I got you," Aiden winked at her.

"I’ll drop it in your room for you since you are having a conversation with Dalton," Aiden offered.

"Oh, sure! Thanks for doing that," Maya handed the phone back to Aiden.

Aiden trotted into the mansion. Dalton was pleased to see Aiden’s budding relationship with Maya. Oliver was right; Maya is good for Aiden. He has become less of an asshole. However, Dalton will never forget how Aiden harassed her the first time they met her.

Whenever Dalton recalls that awful incident, he feels an overwhelming urge to punch Aiden repeatedly until his face is a bloody mess.

Dalton’s gaze returned to Maya as his eyes roamed her face. He placed his hand on Maya’s forehead. "Too warm; you’re still very sick," he said. She looked pale, and her blue eyes were dull.

"You really need a month to recover as Oliver said. You should be in bed. Why were you walking in the maze with my secretary? You look exhausted because of it."

"Well, I can’t stay in bed all day! I’ll end up old with wrinkles too early!" Maya pouts.

Dalton’s lips curve up. "Then you should have taken a stroll with me instead. "

"You wanted to explore the maze with me?"

"Yes, strolling through the maze would have been a romantic moment for both of us," Dalton said earnestly, surprising himself.

Why is he acting like a lovesick fool? Dalton scolded himself.

A throaty laugh escaped from Maya’s mouth. "You are jealous!"

Yes, he is, he admitted to himself. He is going to increase Haven’s workload because of this.

"Oh my God, Dalton, your jealousy is so cute." Maya laughed. "Don’t worry, I’ll take a stroll through the maze with you another time."

Maya’s words made him ease up. "I’m looking forward to that," he said.

Dalton gently stroked Maya’s cheek, unable to resist touching her beautiful face. She rewarded him with a smile that went straight to his heart. He looked at her, captivated.

God, he was falling so hard for this woman.

He tore his gaze away before his heart gave out from beating so rapidly for her.

"Your belongings have arrived," Dalton announced.

"My belongings?"

"Yes, you are moving in with me."

Maya’s eyes ogled at him, and seconds later, a look of understanding crossed her face. "Oh, you mean temporarily living with you until I recover, right? I’m only staying here for a month, so I just needed a packed suitcase, not all my belongings. But thanks for the gesture."

"I meant You will be permanently moving in with me."

Maya’s mouth hung open. "Wait, what?" she gasped. "Living together is a very big step in a relationship. We are so far away from reaching that point in our relationship. It’s way too soon."

"Some couples move in together within just four weeks of meeting. I’ve known you for a few months now," Dalton pushed.

"Well, we aren’t officially a couple yet. We only confessed the desire we felt for each other. We haven’t even had our first kiss," her voice dropped to a whisper. "I know you trailed kisses on my neck.... but I’m talking about a real kiss on the lips."

Dalton suddenly grabbed Maya’s waist and pulled her close, then he kissed her on the lips. Her lips tasted like ecstasy, invading all his senses. Every drag of his lips against hers made her moan. Her knees buckled when his tongue slid against hers. He devoured her lips ravenously, igniting a flicker of desire to course through them. They passionately kissed until they were out of breath.

Maya looked dazed when Dalton pulled his lips away. "Wow, that was a real kiss!" she panted.

"You want more?" Dalton asked in a raspy voice. He was also breathy.

Maya nodded as if she were in a trance. "Yes."

Dalton took Maya’s hand and kissed the inside of her palm. "When you recover, I will give you more."

Maya groaned. "Okay."

"Are we officially a couple now, so you can move in with me?" Dalton asked as he pushed Maya’s hair away from her face.

"Yes," Maya replied, still dazed from the kiss.

Dalton pressed a quick, soft kiss to her lips. "Good girl."
