The billionaire's only desire-Chapter 34: Brother in law’s protection
Chapter 34: Brother in law’s protection
It has been eight days since Dalton left for London, and as he promised, he calls and texts Maya every hour to check on her. Maya does the same when she finds the time amidst her busy schedule as a sous chef.
She misses him like crazy. It been a week since he left, but it feels like an eternity to her. She is counting the days, hours, minutes, and seconds until she sees him again.
"We’re here," Aiden said, pulling her out of her thoughts. He parked the van in front of a house. Maya is delivering the birthday cake and food she prepared for Haven’s aunt, birthday party.
Maya blinked. "Oh, I can take it from here. Thanks for dropping me off."
"Nope, I’m coming inside with you," Aiden insisted from the driver’s seat.
Maya sighed in frustration. "Fine," she said, fuming.
Dalton tasked Aiden to watch over her, and protect her like a bodyguard. But, Aiden is overdoing it , he hovers over her like a hawk, never letting her out of his sight. It’s annoying—she needs some space to breathe.
Maya got out of the van and called Haven on the phone to let her know she had arrived. Minutes later, Haven jolted out of the door with some teenage boys trailing behind her. "You’re here on time," she grinned at Maya.
"Thank God, I thought I was late," Maya breathed a sigh of relief.
"No you are not at all. The party is still a long way from starting," Haven tells her.
The teenage boys began unloading the food from the van.
"You made all of this by yourself? And the cake?" Haven exclaimed, staring in awe at the dishes the boys were unloading from the van as they walked into the house.
Maya prepared an impressive and diverse spread of delicious savoury foods with great variety of flavours and textures, From curried chicken nuggets to the spicy cheese, pickle wraps, pizza rolls , Deviled Eggs. Glazed cocktail sausages, beef burritos, Veggie loaded fries, Honey mustard chicken sausage rolls, air fryer rice paper noodle, sweet potato wedges, stuffed mushrooms, and a cheese platter a thoughtful balance between hearty and lighter options.
She added some fresh salads, dips, like a classic guacamole, refreshing tzatziki, and Buffalo Chicken Dip,
For dessert, she prepared mini cupcakes, mini cheesecakes, brownies, brioche ice cream sandwiches, lemon tart, and raspberry cakes. For beverages, she made fruit punch and mocktails, which are non-alcoholic cocktails made with fruit juices and soda.
Her kitchen couldn’t accommodate her, so she cooked everything in Dalton’s kitchen. Obviously, she sourced all the ingredients from his pantry.
"You are a superwoman Maya!"
"Not a big deal; I’m trained to cook in large quantities," Maya said humbly.
"Don’t downplay this; you are awesome!" Haven praised.
Maya couldn’t hide her smile.
"Your bodyguard is cute," Haven suddenly remarked.
Maya glanced over her shoulder. Aiden was behind her. "Who? Aiden?"
"Yes,"
Aiden moves closer to Haven, sizing her up. "I’m far too dangerous to be called cute," he huffs.
Haven snorts. "You sound like a cocky teenage boy who thinks he’s some kind of bad wolf."
Aiden chuckles. "Oh, you have no idea how big and bad of a wolf I really am, Haven."
"Oh my God, I’m so terrified," Haven rolled her eyes. "Honestly, your bad boy persona is so corny," she yawned.
Aiden didn’t get offended; instead, he laughed. "You are very funny," he said, ruffling Haven’s hair.
Haven giggled.
Maya looked back and forth between them, smiling. She was loving their banter.
"You will be safe here," Aiden said as he surveyed his surroundings.
Maya looked at him with annoyance. "You’re taking this bodyguard job too seriously."
Aiden shrugged. "Dalton will kill me if I don’t take your safety seriously. I’ll wait for you in the van," he said and excused himself.
Maya and Haven began arranging the dishes on a long table under the shade in the backyard where the party would take place.
"John, be careful with the cake!" Haven cautioned one of the teenage boys who was carrying it to the kitchen.
"The cake looks great, and all these delicious-looking dishes are amazing, Maya. You’re going to charge me a lot, aren’t you?" Haven joked.
Maya shook her head. "I’m not charging you anything."
Haven’s mouth dropped open. "What? I can’t accept this. I need to pay you something. You put so much time and energy into preparing these dishes and the cake."
"I want us to be friends, so let this be a token of the start of a new friendship," Maya said warmly.
"Really? You want us to be friends? You are so cool, Maya! I am so flattered and honoured that you want to be my friend. I can’t wait to do all the fun things with you. I promise to be a good, loving friend," Haven rambled giddily.
"You are so cool too, Haven,"
Maya loves her bubbly personality; she is like sunshine.
"Nice necklace," Haven complimented, gazing at the sapphire necklace around Maya’s neck.
Maya touched it and blushed. "Thanks," she replied. She wears it every day to feel closer to Dalton. She is just a hopeless romantic.
"I’m glad he chose this; it’s so beautiful," Haven said as she admired the necklace.
"You know it’s from Dalton?" Maya asked in an astonished tone.
"Yes, I was with him when he went to the jewellery shop to buy the necklace," Haven revealed.
"Oh, I see," Maya smiles.
"I’m glad he’s dating you and not Ms. Rude," Haven scoffed.
"Ms. Rude... Soraya?" Maya inquired.
"Yes!" Haven exclaimed. "I can’t stand that arrogant woman," she spat.
Then it struck Maya as she remembered Soraya saying she would eliminate any beautiful girl around Dalton.
She grabbed Haven’s arm in fear. "Haven, you are so beautiful. Has Soraya tried to harm you?" She was genuinely scared for her.
"No, but the daggers she has been shooting at me are deadly enough to kill. Yet, I’m still alive," Haven jest. "Don’t worry, I’m not afraid of her. She acts like a mean queen bee ruling over some high school. She’s too old for that; she’s not a teenager anymore." Haven rolled her eyes.
Maya laughed. "I know, right?"
"When will you return to London?" Maya asked, changing the topic. Haven had gone to London with Dalton, but she flew back yesterday for her aunt’s birthday.
"Tomorrow," Haven replied.
"Let me go get something," Maya dashed to the van. She returned with a box of White Chocolate Strawberry Cookies.
"Give this, Dalton. " she said, handing it to Haven.
"Aw, that’s so sweet! You are such a good girlfriend, Maya "
Maya wanted to say,
she is not yet officially is girlfriend.
The heart fluttering words Dalton said ram through her mind: ’When I comeback, I will make you my woman, my everything.’ She grins like a madwoman every time she remembers these words he uttered.
She wanted to tell Dalton that she would also make him her man, the king of her heart.
She will tell him that when he comes back.
"I’m leaving, Haven. I need to be at the restaurant," Maya said as she hugged her.
"See you in three weeks!" Haven waved at Maya when she was seated in the van.

Maya saw Dan’s hip attached to her pickup truck when she walked into the parking lot. She still hasn’t reported him for sexual harassment because she has been busy with her hectic duties as a sous chef. She has somewhat forgotten all about it.
"Step away from my car," she barked at him.
Dan stepped away from her truck, raising his hands in defence. "Whoa, calm down, Maya. I just want to talk to you."
"I don’t have time to talk to you, Dan. I need to go home," Maya replied furiously as she fished her car keys out of her handbag.
Dan touched her shoulder, causing her to flinch. "I want to apologize for..." he began, but he didn’t finish his sentence as Aiden suddenly appeared, grabbed Dan by the collar, and shoved him away. Dan stumbled into the car opposite Maya’s truck.
"How dare you touch her!" Aiden snarls at Dan. "Do you know whose girl she is?"
"I thought she was single," Dan groaned in pain as he rubbed his aching back..
"You know who Dalton Black is?" Aiden asked him.
Dan nodded. "I’ve heard of him. He’s one scary motherfucker." His face went pale.
"Then you should know that Maya is Dalton Black’s girl."
Dan’s eyes widened as he turned his gaze to Maya. "You’re his girl?"
Maya shrugged.
."Keep your distance from my sister-in-law, or my brother will be at your doorstep," Aiden warned.
"Leave," Aiden, kicked Dan.
Dan quickly scurried away in fear.
Maya let out a throaty laugh. "You made Dalton sound like he’s part of the Mafia!"
"He is more dangerous than the Mafia," Aiden said sternly.
"Please," Maya snorted. "I know he’s filthy rich, but he doesn’t go around killing people like the Mafia does."
"He doesn’t need to; I do the killing for him," Aiden replied. He sounded dead serious.
"Haven was right. Your bad boy persona is corny," Maya chuckled as she unlocked her car door and sat behind the wheel.
"Ignorance is bliss; enjoy it while it lasts, Maya," Aiden said and shut the car door for her.
Maya felt unsettled. Is Dalton really that dangerous? She wondered anxiously. No, she thought; Aiden is just bluffing.
