Haven received a call, so Maya decided to give her some privacy. As she was walking away from Haven’s desk toward Dalton’s door, she heard Haven lamenting about needing a catering service. She walked back to her desk

Maya waited for Haven to finish the call and then asked, "Sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop on your conversation, but I heard you mention that you need a catering service. If you don’t mind, may I offer you my services?".

"Yes, yes!" Haven exclaimed. "I would really appreciate that. My aunt’s birthday is in eight days. The catering service I hired billed out on me. Thank you for coming to my rescue." Haven’s shoulders slumped in relief. "Now I need a baker to make the birthday cake," she said, nervously chewing her lips.

"I can bake the birthday cake as well," Maya offered. Haven hugged her. "You are heaven-sent!"

"I will talk about the details with you later; I have to get back to work." Haven returned to her seat behind her desk.

"Sure, sure," Maya said as she left her and entered Dalton’s office.

"Hi," she waved at the four brothers, who were eating the Loaded Tuna Salad Tartines she had made.

Dalton stared at her intensely, causing flutters in her stomach. She quickly averted her gaze and focused on the twins instead.

"Hello, Maya!" River cheerfully waved at her, while Oliver smiled. "Good to see you, Maya," He twinge into his doctor mode. "Have any of your symptoms reared their ugly head?"

Maya shakes her head. "The migraines and headaches have completely disappeared. I haven’t passed out since I started taking the new medication, but I occasionally get dizzy when I overwork myself, which I tend to do often." Maya chuckled.

"Thank you for the medication; it has really helped me."

Oliver smiled. "Don’t mention it."

An unhappy look settled on Dalton’s face. "You still overwork yourself. Stop doing that," he scolded.

"Well, I can’t. I work three jobs: I cook for you, I work at the restaurant, and then I work at Venus City Gentlemen’s Club. " Maya pouted.

"You could just stop working at Venus City; it seems like you hate working there," Dalton suggested.

Maya shakes her head. "I can’t."

"Why not?"

Maya sighs as she retrieves her phone from her purse. She flicks through the screen until she found the copy of that awful contract she signed when she was 18. She hands the phone to Dalton.

"This is the reason why I can’t stop working at Venus City. When I was 18, I desperately wanted to study in Paris, so I signed this terrible contract without properly reading it."

Dalton seethed with anger as he stared at her phone. "This is slavery."

"Let me take a look," Aiden said as he took the phone from Dalton’s hand.

"Christ! You’re working for your stepfather for the rest of your life? For free?" Aiden was furious, clenching his fist. "I can’t wait to get my hands on that jackass."

He passed the phone to the twins; it was their turn to cuss at her stepfather. They were angry on her behalf. Maya felt overwhelmed in a positive way by the brothers’ concern for her. She was flattered by their protectiveness.

Dalton snatched the phone back and flipped the screen a seconds later. He was angrily speaking to Fredrick Hathaway through the phone, threatening him.

He ended the call. "You are no longer working in Venus City," he declared.

"Really?" Maya respire a breath.

"Yes."

"Oh my God, I’m free!" she squealed with excitement. Dalton is truly her knight in shining armour.

"Thank you, Dalton," she said as she hugged him.

Dalton drape his strong arms around her and didn’t want to let go. Maya nestled her head against his chest, wishing they could stay like this forever.

Aiden and the twins cleared their throats, prompting them to break off the hug. However, Dalton intertwined his Fingers with Maya’s to keep her close to him.

"You guys are so cute!" River exclaimed, while Oliver shot them a teasing smile.

"Get a room, lovebirds! Your lovey-dovey behaviour is making me sick," Aiden gagged.

Dalton scowled at them, but they continued their teasing.

Their teases made Maya’s face turned as red as a tomato.

Suddenly, Aiden spoke with intense anger, "But seriously, I really want to beat that stepfather of yours to death."

"Yes, that guy deserves to be beaten to a pulp," River backs him up.

"I’ll even join in and kick his ass too," Oliver said, surprising everyone. He is usually a non-violent person, so it was shocking to hear him say this.

Maya smiles slightly. "Thank you all for your concern. Yes, my stepfather deserves to be beaten up she said, wishing she had the strength to do it herself. She wanted to repay him with her fists for every kick, smack, slap, punch, busted lips he had inflicted on her.

A dangerous glint shone in Dalton’s green eyes. "Don’t worry; your stepfather will face severe punishment from me very soon," he assured her.

"Okay," Maya nodded, feeling a sense of gratification in her heart. She couldn’t wait to get retribution against her stepfather for all the pain he had caused her.

"I got a promotion at work," she announced, to change the mood.

"I’m now a sous chef!"

"Whoa, congratulations, Maya!" the twins exclaimed, their voices filled with joy. They looked so happy for her.

"Congrats," Aiden gave her a thumbs up.

"Thank you, "

"We need to celebrate this milestone," River excitedly suggested.

"I would love that," Maya grinned.

"You guys need to leave," Dalton growled at his brothers.

"Whoa, there’s no need to be harsh, man. We were all planning to leave anyway, to give you and your girl some privacy," Aiden huffs at Dalton.

"Come on, twins," Oliver and River followed Aiden out. The teasing looks they gave Maya made her want to run and hide.

The moment they closed the door behind them, Dalton wrapped his arm around Maya’s waist and pulled her in for a second hug.

"Congratulations," he whispered into her ear.

"Thanks," her voice coming out breathy.

"I want you," Dalton rasped. He softly kissed her earlobe, tracing kisses down her neck, while his fingers stroked the small of her back, rendering her knees weak.

God, she wanted him too.
