The billionaire's only desire-Chapter 32: Nemesis resume their pestering
Chapter 32: Nemesis resume their pestering
Maya didn’t sleep last night because a beautiful man, Dalton, occupied her thoughts. Throughout the day, she fantasized about him, reminiscing about how his lips felt against her skin and the heat he ignited within her.
She didn’t see Dalton today, and she is very glad about that. She might have fainted if she had laid eyes on him, as her heart could have given out from all the flutters he will make her feel
Dalton went to New York again, and she doesn’t know when he will be back. She has a lot of free time as well. The restaurant gave her three days off because of the promotion, but she didn’t rest; she baked all day. She just returned from delivering pastry orders.
As she was walking back into the basement, She overheard Terrence yelling at the new chef that her stepfather had hired.
Maya felt sorry for the chef; she had once been on the receiving end of Terrence’s temper.
"It’s all your damn fault! You lazy bitch!" Terrence suddenly yelled at Maya as she walked past him.
Maya ignored him, pretending she hadn’t heard what he said.
"I’m talking to you , Bitch!"
Maya paused and turned to him. "My name is Maya, not ’bitch,’" she said, glaring at him.
Terrence’s eyes blazed with rage. "I don’t give her fuck what your name is, Maya. You refused to cook for me, so I’m stuck eating the bland food that that incompetent chef makes!"
"And how is that my problem?" Maya snapped at him.
"Did you just talk back at me?" Terence raised his hand to hit her, but for the first time ever, Maya didn’t flinch because she knew he wouldn’t dare hit her. And he didn’t.
Terrence’s hand hung in the air, the fear of Dalton’s wrath holding him back
"I hate that fucking dude! because of him, I can’t hit you to teach you a lesson!" Terrence vented his anger and frustration on a flower vase. He kicked it to the floor, shattering it into pieces.
Maya walked out on him, not in the mood to entertain his tantrums.
"Little sis," Valentina suddenly clamped her manicured fingers around Maya’s arm.
"What do you want?" Maya asked, with annoyance.
"Make me dinner " Valentina requested, her arms crossed over her chest and her lips pouting.
"Ask nicely," Maya said in an authoritative tone. Her harshness caused Valentina to wince. Maya didn’t mean to sound so stern. Despite Valentina’s rudeness, Maya always tried her best to be respectful to her, because Valentina was her older sister, two years her senior.
"Sorry for sounding rude," Maya apologized.
"No, it’s fine, little sis. I’ve been speaking to you rudely too; now I know how it feels. I’m sorry for being a pain in the ass," Valentina said with remorse.
Maya was taken aback. "Wow, this is shocking. Why the sudden change of heart?"
"Well, ever since Dalton threatened dad, you’ve stopped cooking for everyone except me, even though I haven’t been very nice to you. It made me realize just how incredibly nice you are, Maya"
Maya’s lips pursed. "I see."
"What would you like me to make for you?" Maya asked.
Valentina hook her hand with Maya’s and dragged her to the kitchen. She picked up a magazine from the kitchen counter and passed it to her. It was open to a page featuring a picture of a fancy Italian dish.
"Can you make this for me, please?" Valentina asked, looking at her with puppy eyes.
"Okay."
"Yeah!" Valentina did little dance.
Maya quickly prepared the dish. After an hour, she was done and served Valentina.
"Oh my gosh!" Valentina clapped her hands excitedly. "It looks so lovely! Thank you, sis. I love you!"
Maya was surprised. This was the first time Valentina had thanked her for cooking for her. She had really changed. Maybe she could develop a sisterly bond with her, Maya wishfully thought. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Maya went into the basement, hoping to relax and watch a movie, but it seems today she can’t catch a break.
Why has her nemesis resumed pestering her?
Maya let out a groan. "Stepfather."
"Hello, dear stepdaughter," Fredrick Hathaway flashed his white teeth at Maya in a creepy manner. "Now that you’ve grown wings, you no longer address me as ’sir’ anymore." He drew closer to her, taking lazy steps.
Maya backed away, seeking refuge against the wall behind her as she leaned against it to keep her distance from her stepfather.
"Scared, are you?" Fredrick Hathaway let out a laugh. "You don’t seem like someone who is under the protection of the almighty Dalton Black."
Maya lifted her chin defiantly. "I’m not afraid of you anymore," she said, her voice sounding half-wavering. Perhaps she was still afraid of him. He had taught her to fear him ever since she was a little girl. It would take a long time for her to unlearn that fear.
Fredrick Hathaway laughed mockingly at her. "You still fear me. Oh, how I wish I could make you scream," he said, bringing his coiled fingers close to her neck. Maya squirmed , a sharp flash of painful memory jolted through her mind, as she recalled the time he squeezed her throat, nearly ending her life.
"But I can’t! Fuck Dalton!" He said Dalton’s name with venom. "Now he made you stop working at Venus City. So I paid your expensive tuition fees for free, without getting nothing back huh? You better pay me back my money!"
Maya flinched but held on to the little courage in her heart and said, "You used my mother’s money to pay my tuition fees! So I owe you nothing!"
Fredrick Hathaway snarled, "Girl, remember that she left you nothing in her will. She had plenty of time during her pregnancy to change her will, and include you, but she didn’t because she hated you."
His words struck her like a dagger, her heart crumpled with pain.
"Cecelia detested you so much; you were her disgrace, her downfall. She died giving birth to you. If it weren’t for you, she would still be alive." Fredrick Hathaway spats fuelling her pain.
"No, no!" Maya screamed in agony as she fell to her knees, tears streaming down her face.
"You killed your mother!" he kept repeating, driving Maya crazy.
Her body curled into a ball on the floor as she cried her heart out.
Her stepfather was right; she had killed her mother. It was her fault that she was dead. She sobbed until her tear ducts ran dry.
