Chapter 91: Why Does He Not Ask (Ch.91)

"King Askel, surely you understand the calamity to befall the supernatural realm if the Tide Trident were to fall into the wrong hands." King Himan said, his gaze furrowing into a frown at King Askel’s unconcerned reaction.

"Yet you would not mind using it’s powers to battle against the Floral Domain, putting the entire supernatural realm at risk. Are your hands ’the right hands’ then, King Himan?" King Askel asked back, his gaze still chilling cold.

King Himan hissed lowly but had no words to counter King Askel’s point, truly the Tide Trident belonged to the Sea Kingdom, but it’s purpose was never for wars and battles.

"King Askel, do not judge this based on sentiments, the Floral Domain would not be as merciful and will spare no resources, why should I put my people at a disadvantage by holding back?" King Himan asked.

King Askel’s expression did not change, however he did understand the Sea King’s stance when it came to his intent to flood the Floral Domain.

"Very well, it is an extreme measure but not without justifiable cause." King Askel relented,

"You see father? I knew King Askel would understand." Princess Shariah said with a smile, 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

King Askel could not even be bothered to waste his words on the mer princess but it seemed Luther was already ahead of him.

"Do not get ahead of yourself Princess, My King only acknowledged there is justifiable cause,"

"It does not change the fact that the Sea Kingdom intends to use the Tide Trident for personal grudges." Luther countered the mer princess.

"The battle between the mers and fairies is a foolhardy endeavor, both rulers are clearly intent on it though, in the end, your internal affairs is no concern of mine. I still have not heard why King Himan has sent for me." King Askel said.

"It is regarding the Lady Zariah, in consideration of your close ties, I hope you will be able to convince her to rethink her decision to remain silent on the whereabouts of the Tide Trident." King Himan said,

King Askel quirked a brow at the words of the Sea King.

"And pray tell, why would I do that?" King Askel asked in an unconcerned tone.

"King Askel!" King Himan hissed in anger.

"I will be very clear on this! Zariah, the woman you have locked up in your dungeons is my mate! My woman! The Ethereal Queen!" King Askel snarled in a deadly tone,

"Yet she snatched the Tide Trident and poisoned Kristen! How can you still back her?! Do you not suspect of what intentions she held approaching you?! She is placing you and the Ethereal Domain in danger, clearly she holds ulterior motives!" Princess Shariah shrieked in rage.

King Askel’s gaze narrowed in anger at the mer princess’s unfounded accusations.

"It seems I was not clear enough. Whatever actions Zariah has taken, whatever actions she will take henceforth, best remember I, Askel Vance Niolen and the entire Ethereal Domain stand solidly behind her and no other considerations matter."

"Now if you for one second imagined that I would dissuade my queen, reprimand or speak against her and her will, then you are terribly mistaken."

"How you go about finding your trident and the missing merman is no business of mine, neither am I willing to interfere. In my sight, there is no right or wrong...only her." King Askel clarified in a tone that left no room for arguments.

It was obvious to all witnessing that King Askel was barely restraining himself from lunging at Princess Shariah and ripping her to shreds.

King Askel’s words sent everyone in the throne room to silence as they had no methods to counter or reason with him, his stance was clear.

King Askel would always only be on the side of Zariah Torin and as long as it was her, no one and nothing else mattered.

King Askel spun around to storm out of the throne room but halted when King Himan spoke.

"Treyton will take you to see her, your wolf will need the calm." King Himan murmured in a begrudging tone.

King Askel did not bother glancing back as he headed out of the throne room and strode down the halls of the Sea Palace.

Prince Treyton quickly hurried to catch up with King Askel and Luther who dutifully followed behind King Askel.

Prince Treyton led the way to the dungeons of the Sea Palace in silence, not daring to speak for fear or triggering King Askel’s wrath.

It took a few twists and turns through the complicated lay out of the Sea Palace but they soon arrived at a stairway leading downward to a lower level beneath the palace.

At the mere sight of it, King Askel’s rage was stirred as he struggled to restrain his wolf and beast while staring down into the darkness of the lower level.

"It’s this way." Prince Treyton murmured in a low tone as he flicked his tail and shot downwards, soon swallowed up by the darkness.

King Askel followed behind, his eyes quickly adjusting to the darkness of the lower level as he let his gaze wander over the chilling cold and dark atmosphere encasing the dungeons.

"Lady Zariah is just at the end of this row, we will wait here." Prince Treyton said when they turned a corner, standing back along with Luther.

King Askel walked forwards, slightly relieved to see this section of the jail seemed to be the uppermost part and was mostly empty.

However the darkness all around and the chilling cold worried him deeply as he headed even deeper till he finally caught sight of her,

King Askel came to a halt as he watched her, his heart aching.

Zariah sat in a meditative position, her hands placed on her knees, her red tresses were unwound and splayed over her back, the tips spreading out on the floor behind her.

Her eyes were closed and there was an aura of calm and solitude around her, as though she was a lone existence in the world, accustomed to the peace and tranquility of her own company.

Zariah herself was lost in her own thoughts, she had begun meditating to ease her heart as she worried for Nile’s well being and how he fared, all alone in the unfamiliar terrain of the Sea depths.

However Zariah’s thoughts flitted away when she caught a familiar scent that did more to ease her heart than hours of meditation had and it was then she took notice of King Askel’s presence.

King Askel sensed it when Zariah took notice of his presence, her brows creased slightly and her eye lids twitched ever so slightly.

"King Askel." Zariah acknowledged, her eyes fluttering open, revealing to King Askel those enchanting Crimson orbs that always left him mystified and breathless even from just a fleeting gaze.

King Askel stepped forward, his heart constricting in pain as he struggled to restrain the overwhelming urge to tear down the dungeons.

Zariah quirked a brow slightly as King Askel emerged from the shadows, his golden orbs glowing in the darkness of the dungeons.

His brows were furrowed in deep concern as he moved forwards till he was standing right before the bars of Zariah’s cell.

Zariah could see the numerous emotions fleeting across his golden orbs and somehow, she understood them and without her control, her lips stretched into a small smile.

"I am unharmed." Zariah assured knowing King Askel was deeply worried for her.

"How dare they...How dare you...how could you ask this of me, Mhíjani? Ask me to watch from the sidelines while they have you locked in here..." King Askel murmured, his tone pained as though it physically hurt him to see Zariah in such a place.

King Askel’s words pierced right through Zariah’s heart and she was unsure of just how to respond, especially when confronted with the pain reflected in his eyes.

"I...I could only put you to sleep in that situation, I apologise." Zariah murmured in a low tone, intentionally avoiding King Askel’s question and his gaze along with.

King Askel heaved a quiet sigh as he shook his head slightly.

"Do not dwell on it, as long as you are fine..." King Askel said with a small smile.

Zariah bit her lip slightly as she watched King Askel lean against a pillar, just standing there and staring at her as though he feared if he diverted his gaze for even a second, she would disappear.

Zariah wondered if King Askel had come all the way here with nothing to say and only the intention to stare at her in such a nerve wracking manner.

And so she decided to break the silence, Zariah felt this was also the best time to test out what level of involvement King Askel had in this.

"You have heard of the events that followed after I put you to sleep?" Zariah broke the silence after a short moment.

"I have." King Askel affirmed,

’So he did know, so why does he not ask?’ Zariah wondered,

"I have put you and the Ethereal Domain in an even more tense situation with the Sea Kingdom, will you not ask me why? What my intentions are? What motives I hold?" Zariah asked, unable to figure out the intentions of this Alpha King.
