Chapter 89: Lead The Way (Ch.89)

Zariah heaved a quiet sigh as Prince Treyton took his leave, leaning her head against the chilling cold wall of the dungeon, she felt the cold seeping through her clothing.

Zariah was not sure how long ago it had been since she had willingly walked into the dungeons of the Sea Kingdom, however she guessed it could have been a few hours or maybe a day.

And as her eyes fluttered closed, she thought back to the events that had led up to here.

"This trident...I fear I shall have to borrow it for a time." Zariah said with a smile, her smile widening as the Sea King released a furious shriek.

All the battle mers charged at Zariah’s barrier with a vengeance, Zariah tossed the tide trident over to Nile who caught it in his hands.

Zariah then lifted a hand and summoned a surge of flames, her flames roaring to life even when surrounded by water all around.

The torrent of flames rained all over the barrier, setting it aflame such that all the battle mers charging for Zariah came to a sharp halt for fear of getting burned.

’Alpha what am I to do with the trident?’ Nile thought to Zariah through their mind link.

’These are my orders, take Kristen and the tide trident and leave the Sea Palace. Head into the open Sea on the Northern shores.’ Zariah thought back to him, her gaze still fixed on the raging Sea King who summoned his water magic to quell Zariah’s flames.

’My flame poison will battle with the other poison in his blood stream long enough to keep him alive, but it can only buy him ten days.’ Zariah continued through their mind link.

’What am I searching for?’ Nile asked,

’ There is a plant, the water hydrant, it only grows on the Northern Sea bed. From the ancient texts, it is the only herb beneath the Sea that has the same properties as our cooling mist herb, which is the only antidote for flame poison in the Crimson Moon.’

’Kristen’s internal organs are already failing, even if I were to send for the cooling mist now, it would not arrive in time and all of these are details I cannot explain to the Sea King.’

’ I do not know if the water hydrant posseses all the properties of the cooling mist, but even so, if there is anything that stands a chance to neutralize the Flame Poison, it can only be that.’ 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

’And you know between the two of us, only you are able to properly extract the essence of the water hydrant and that is why this time, it can only be you.’ Zariah thought to him,

’I understand, but this merman’s life...why must I have you suffer injustice for it?’ Nile thought in reluctance.

Zariah understood Nile’s concern for her, but how could she explain to him that she had finally found a link to that strange drawing the Sea King had sent to her father in the previous lifetime?

The fact that she had recalled this drawing in a dream could only mean it was of some significance, Zariah firmly believe nothing happened as a coincidence.

Caedmon Grey had tampered with this very drawing in the previous lifetime and although she had not taken notice of it then,

Now, it was very clear to her that he did not want her to find out the significance of that drawing.

Which meant his and the Alpha King’s plot was somehow related to it.

And for this reason, Zariah could never let it go, if that marking had appeared on Kristen’s wrist, there had to be a reason.

But Zariah could not say as much to Nile, so she spoke only of what she could.

’That flame poison is extracted from one of my Flame wolves and this merman is our only link to the enemy, if not for the Sea Kingdom but for our cause, you must save him somehow.’ Zariah said,

Zariah caught the suspicious glance Nile fixed on her and she bit her lip knowing her barrier would not hold for much longer.

’I also have my own reasons Nile, you just need to trust me.’

’The tide trident holds the ability to summon waves, it will be safer in your hands. Mask it’s presence so you cannot be tracked and it’s ability to summon waves will help you journey through the sea.’ Zariah continued,

’I’m not of the merfolk, how can I wield the tide trident?’ Nile asked,

"Zariah Torin!" The Sea King roared but Zariah ignored him.

’You are spirit guide of Crimson Moon Nile, Lord of spirit trail, there is no limit to your power.’ Zariah assured, if there was anyone who could wield a weapon of another specie, Nile was the only one.

Because he was the eyes of the Creator, the oracle, there was hardly any boundaries he could not break through, in the end, all were formed of the Creator’s essence and were treasures of ancient magic.

’Ten days Nile... that is all my flame poison can buy, you must return him to me after neutralizing the other flame poison so I may extract mine or my Flame Poison will be the first to kill him.’ Zariah reminded.

’I will not fail you, Alpha. Be safe, till I return.’ Nile thought to Zariah, tilting his head down to a bow.

"You cannot leave here! The Sea Palace is well fortified!" Princess Shariah snarled,

"It is the Sky bubble of my Crimson Wolves, whatever makes you think it can hinder me? I hear the hum of their magic all around, it calls to me...it will bend to me." Zariah murmured as she summoned her magic.

With a wave of her hand and a quiet murmur of a spell, a large portal was opened through the wall that showed a view of the open sea.

’Go Nile! I will be fine.’ Zariah assured as the spirit guide passed her one last worried glance before he lifted the merman into his arms and jumped straight through the portal.

"Stop him!!" The Sea King roared,

"You can’t... he’s gone. The Sea is vast, where can you find him?" Zariah asked as the portal closed up and she turned back to face the Sea King.

"Zariah Torin! How dare you?!" The Sea King roared as he stretched his hand out, the room trembling violently as he summoned a whirlpool of water.

"Save your strength." Zariah said as she waved her hand and the flaming barrier disintegrated.

"Zariah Torin! Do you really think I won’t kill you?!" The Sea King roared as with a flick of his tail, a rush of water sent Zariah flying back through the air.

Zariah groaned quietly as her back made contact with the wall, a sharp pain shooting through her as she dropped to a crouch.

"You won’t...you cannot and you do not dare!" Zariah challenged with a smirk, her Crimson orbs blazing as a domineering aura poured off of her.

The Sea King who was about to attack again hesitated for a moment, staring at Zariah with a complicated gaze.

Zariah herself was not sure why, but she guessed he could see it clearly, that her aura was far different from that of a warrior wolf and that gave him pause,

But of course, without the presence of her wolf Torin, no one would be able to tell... that she was Crimson Alpha.

"You bitch!" Princess Shariah raged when her father did not make any moves, lunging at Zariah with blinding speed,

Zariah’s gaze narrowed as her hand shot out and grabbed the Princess by her throat, lifting up her entire weight as though it was nothing so her 9ft tail dangled even as she flicked it furiously to escape Zariah’s grip.

Zariah tightened her grip, just enough to apply pressure so Princess Shariah’s airflow was restricted but not enough to crush her windpipe like Zariah was tempted to.

"Listen girl, I do not care how many centuries you have lived...it will never be your turn to lecture me, I am not the person you want to anger." Zariah warned in a deadly tone as she tossed the Princess aside before she turned her gaze to the Sea King.

"If I do not wish to be apprehended, it would take a hundred more of you to take me down. Unless of course the Sea King is willing to do the honors in person, " Zariah said in a casual tone.

"In which case, I do promise you...I will make the fight worth your while." Zariah added in a dark tone.

"Lady Zariah! You promised to surrender if King Askel was left out of this!" Prince Treyton spoke up for the first time and Zariah passed him a glance.

Whether Prince Treyton had interrupted to protect her from his father or the other way around, Zariah was not sure...but she guessed it was both.

"Very well... what would you have me do?" Zariah asked.

"You are to be remanded to the dungeons until further deliberations are made." The Sea King ordered.

"Fair enough, do lead the way." Zariah said with a shrug as she strode forwards, the battle mers parting to let her through.
