The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 62: Spontaneous Divination ()
"Zari." Lord Kodin said just as Zariah arrived behind him.
"Uncle Kodin." Zariah said in response, coming to a halt beside the head of the supernatural council.
The two fell into silence for a time, Lord Kodin staring out ahead as he had been before Zariah arrived.
Zariah found Lord Kodin’s silence unnerving, she was grateful he had not revealed her true identity but she understood it was also because he could not explain how he had come to know Alpha Zewin Moonstone’s daughter.
Once or twice, Alpha Zewin Moonstone had ventured out of the Crimson barrier, but right from birth, Zariah had never left the Crimson Barrier.
Most people did not even know Alpha Zewin had passed on and was already succeeded by his daughter as all Crimson Alphas bore the name Alpha Moonstone.
The Crimson Moon had remained in seclusion for decades, Lord Kodin had no methods to explain how he knew the exact location of the Crimson Moon territory and how he had gotten past their barrier and was even able to recognize the daughter of Alpha Zewin.
This was another reason why Zariah had been convinced Lord Kodin would not speak of her identity as it would reveal his secret association with the Crimson Moon Pack.
"You have left the Crimson Barrier." Lord Kodin finally said.
"I have." Zariah replied.
Lord Kodin did not speak further and another moment of silence passed by.
"Are you not going to ask for my explanation?" Zariah asked quietly when Lord Kodin did not speak even after a while.
"Explanation..." Lord Kodin murmured, before he chuckled quietly.
"The fact that you feel the need to explain to me, it eases my heart, you have not forgotten me." Lord Kodin said in a fond tone.
"If I ask for an explanation...are you willing to explain?" Lord Kodin asked.
Zariah tilted her head to the side before she chuckled quietly.
"No, I am not." Zariah replied honestly.
"You do not lie Zari, Zewin raised you so. Why ask for an explanation you are unwilling to give and put you in a difficult position?" Lord Kodin asked rhetorically.
"Then you are not curious to know? Why I am out here?" Zariah asked.
"I trust you and your intentions too, I do not need to know anything else." Lord Kodin replied.
"Thank You." Zariah said in relief, her situation was one she had no methods of explaining even if she tried.
"Your father would never have approved of this, he never wanted you to leave the protection of the Crimson Barrier." Lord Kodin pointed out.
This was a fact Zariah knew clearly, her father had left firm orders before his passing that she was never to venture out of the barrier.
Zariah understood her father had wanted her to be safe, safe from the worries and terrors of the supernatural realm,
But it was only so much protection a barrier could offer and in the end, the danger Zariah was caged from had eventually come to her.
"My father is dead, Uncle Kodin. Crimson Moon is mine to protect now and I decide what is best for my pack, my safety is... insignificant." Zariah replied in a blank tone.
Lord Kodin heaved a quiet sigh, shaking his head slightly.
"Yes...Zewin is gone, he cannot protect you anymore. The path he chose led to his end, perhaps it is for the best you chose a different path." Lord Kodin said in a tone thick with sorrow.
Zariah frowned slightly at the strange words Lord Kodin spoke but she did not inquire further, she did not wish to talk about her father out in the open.
The memory of her father was too painful, too sacred for Zariah.
"The Crimson Moon is in good hands, the element lords are capable, you do not need to worry." Zariah assured instead.
"Worried? I am not. The Crimson Moon has neglected the supernatural realm for far too long, it is time for a change...it has long been time for a change." Lord Kodin said with a nod as he turned to face Zariah.
"When I heard emissaries from the Crimson Moon had arrived the Ethereal domain, I knew the days I have long hoped for had come."
"There is much you do not know of the supernatural realm Zari, dark, horrible things that are set to tear the realm apart from the shadows."
"The peace alliance is barely hanging on by a thread, the position of the supernatural council itself is already unsteady, you can see proof of this from the Fairy Queen’s aggression to council members."
"Even within my council... I fear the old days of peace and order have long passed." Lord Kodin said with a sigh.
"Within your council is your jurisdiction Uncle Kodin. The world may fall apart but as the head of the supernatural council, you have no excuses to let the council fall apart..."
"Your responsibility is to maintain the order, you are not allowed to make excuses." Zariah reminded with a frown.
Lord Kodin chuckled quietly, his eyes gleaming in amusement and fondness.
"Those words, that biting tone, the reprimand...it is exactly what your father would have said." Lord Kodin said in amusement.
"Then you already know it clearly." Zariah said with a quiet huff.
"I do...I do. I have my own plans for the supernatural council, as for the supernatural realm, might I be assured to entrust it to you?" Lord Kodin asked seriously.
"The supernatural realm is vast and boundless, each specie holds their own agenda, unity is a thing of the past and the Crimson Moon is a forgotten player on the board."
"There is only so much I can do here," Zariah admitted.
"No Zari, you are wrong. You are Crimson Alpha, protector of the realm. In you lies the power of the Creator himself...you will come to understand that there is nothing you cannot do." Lord Kodin said in a serious tone.
"My Lord!" A female voice called out to Lord Kodin, Zariah recognized the voice to belong to one of the council vampires.
"Something tells me the fairies and merfolk are at it again, I must see to them before Askel gets fed up and kills them all." Lord Kodin said with a chuckle.
"I am glad you have come Zariah, truly." Lord Kodin added before he patted Zariah’s shoulder fondly and headed away.
"Oh... and Zariah?" Lord Kodin called,
Zariah passed a questioning glance to him over her shoulder.
"He is a good man... your mate, King Askel I mean. Your father would approve of him,"
"But we both know it his blessing to have you as a mate, his and that of the Ethereal Domain. Certainly no one else is more qualified...to be Ethereal Queen." Lord Kodin said with a smile before he spun around and strode away.
Zariah froze up, her hands scrunching up into tight fists and her eyes flashing with rage at Lord Kodin’s words.
"Father would approve of him?" Zariah scoffed, shaking her head as she sucked in a deep breath to calm herself.
She thought over Lord Kodin’s words and his request to entrust the supernatural realm to her.
"Nothing I cannot do, he said?" Zariah asked, laughing quietly.
"Yet the one time I was meant to do something, I could do nothing at all...not for myself, not for my pack, not for anyone."
"A protector of the realm...me? How laughable." Zariah said, her eyes fluttering closed as her heart clenched painfully.
"Because you no longer believe it does not make it any less true... the truth was the truth when you were a believer, it remains the truth even when you are not." A voice interrupted Zariah’s thoughts.
Zariah sighed as she heard Nile’s approach, she did not need to look at him to know his eyes would be glowing as it always did when he scried.
"You are at it again, I did not request a divination spirit guide." Zariah clarified in a cold tone, her gaze still closed.
"Again, answers are not given when you ask for them but when you need them." Nile replied, his tone strange.
"And you presume I need them now?" Zariah asked with a scoff.
"Not I..." Nile replied.
"The Creator..." Zariah murmured, heaving a quiet sigh as she tilted her head back, the chilling cold feeling of the wind against her face eased her troubled heart to an extent.
"I... I do not still know my questions," Zariah murmured quietly,
"You doubt yourself." Nile said in that eerie tone.
"I doubt a lot of things." Zariah replied with a shrug.
"You doubt him too..." Nile said again, it was not a question, just a factual statement.
Zariah knew by ’Him’, Nile referred to the Creator and Zariah did doubt, for how could she trust the one who had granted her the man she loathed for a mate?
Doubt in itself was an understatement, perhaps that was the downside of blind faith, once lost...it could not be recovered. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
She had trusted blindly all her life, she had trusted in fate, in the Creator’s will, in the path he had destined for her, in his blessing... and look where it had got her.
Now, Zariah did not wish to believe in anything, anyone or any being, all she had was her ownself.
"Doubt...amongst other things..." Zariah replied in a whisper.
