The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 50: Trouble Arises ()
~Askel’s Childhood~
A five year old Askel stared in horror as his father approached him, the black gem held tightly in his hands.
From the look in his father’s eyes, young Askel could already guess his father’s intentions.
Young Askel knew clearly what was contained within that gemstone, he knew the beautiful black gemstone only served as an enchanted cage to an ancient beast.
Young Askel shook his head in panic, his eyes searching around the throne room for a means of escape, but there was none to be seen.
"Father no! I will do better! I swear it! Take the monster away! Please!" Young Askel pleaded desperately as he took frightened steps backward, retreating from his father and the horror he brought along with him.
"You are my heir! This is your destiny!" Askel’s father reminded in a fierce tone.
Young Askel shook his head frantically, he did not know why he had to bear such a responsibility, all because he was future king.
Young Askel did not want such a destiny, a destiny that made him a monster of darkness, young Askel did not want it at all.
Young Askel’s back hit the wall, he knew it was over now, there was no where left to run and he could see in his father’s gaze that he would never relent.
’Why could I not have been born anywhere else? To anyone else, to a normal family or at least, I should not have been born at all...’ Young Askel thought, his eyes fluttering closed as tears trailed down his cheeks.
His father arrived before him, young Askel felt an excruciating pain spread through his body as something was pierced right into his heart, his body spasmed with pain,
And the last thing young Askel heard before he blacked out was his own heartwrenching scream.

~Present Day~
Askel released a quiet groan as he felt the beast recede to the back of his mind, finally giving Askel a moment of peace.
Askel’s head still ached terribly, it had been far too long since the beast had been triggered, it had been far too long since Askel had lost control of it.
Askel had had to live all his life battling the beast within, it had taken years but finally Askel had tamed it.
When the beast had first been forced upon him, Askel had believed he would not survive it, that the darkness of the beast would drive him to insanity, yet in the end, Askel had overcome the beast, he always did.
Although the beast within had a mind of its own and did things in a way that pleased it, it was a part of Askel just as surely as his wolf was.
Askel had long come to accept the fact that what had happened had only happened because it was meant to.
The beast had binded with him, whether he had wanted it or not no longer mattered, what mattered was the fact that it had already happened and it could not be undone.
As the beast receded, Askel felt his claws and canines follow suit as he returned to his normal form.
The darkness and overwhelming bloodlust that clouded his mind also dispersed.
The wounds Askel had unintentionally inflicted on himself with his claws also healed up in the blink of an eyes and in a heartbeat, there was no sign left behind that Askel had nearly lost control to his primal side.
Askel ran a hand through his hair as he rose to his feet and headed out of his inner room with the intent to wash up and finally face his duties.
Although Askel’s heart still ached terribly at the thought of his mate, Askel assured himself that he only had to prove his worth to her.
Askel recalled the look in her gaze when she was about to say those words that would have broken him forever, he recognized the reluctance and the distrust.
He recalled how she had succumbed to his touch if only but for a moment, that quiet gasp of pleasure that had escaped her against her will as he tasted her skin...
A sound that was replayed through Askel’s mind over and over again, a sound he was desperate to hear again,
She had even let him claim her lips, she had not kissed him back but still, she had not pulled away either and that was all the assurance Askel needed.
He only had to prove that he was worthy of her love and trust, that he would never hurt her, that he would never fail her,
Perhaps it would take time, but Askel had already waited so long, time did not matter.
Now that she was here, Askel vowed to offer her all his love and affection till all that had been broken was healed, his heart and soul were already hers anyways.
Although it ached his heart that his mate had loved another before him,
He had found her now and he would heal her hurt, no matter how deeply broken she was, Askel would give it his all till she was assured in his love for her.
Because it was one thing to have waited for her, but now that he had finally found her, she was everything he had ever desired in a woman and so much more,
His red haired angel had finally come to him, although she did not know it, they had met a thousand times before, in Askel’s dreams.
And Askel had long already loved her even before he met her, so it went without saying that Askel would rather die a thousand times than let her go,
With new found motivation, Askel headed into his washroom and prepared for the day, his mind clouded with thoughts of his beautiful red haired angel.
_____________
As Askel stepped out of his washroom, he heard footsteps approaching his quarters and he frowned slightly,
He did not need to see who approached to know it was his second in command, Luther.
Askel had made it clear to Luther that he was not to be disturbed until he had calmed his beast,
Luther knew clearly the repercussions if Askel’s beast was unleashed, he knew no one would be spared,
So Askel wondered why Luther was heading for his quarters when he was yet to summon him.
"My King!" Luther exclaimed the moment he stepped into Askel’s quarters,
Askel lifted a dark gaze to his second in command, his gaze demanded an explanation for Luther’s intrusion, however Luther’s grim expression already told Askel that something was wrong.
"The Fairy Queen has declared war against the Sea Kingdom and the representatives from both species have answered the call to battle!" Luther reported,
Askel’s head snapped to Luther in surprise, he had not expected those words at all.
"What have they done?" Askel asked through gritted teeth.
"Lady Floraina of the Floral domain and her battle fairies attacked and injured Princess Shariah when she was out in the courtyard alone,"
"The fairies and the merfolk are at a deadly face off."
"Prince Treyton is raging and has issued a death challenge according to the laws of the supernatural realm, Prince Treyton and Lady Floraina are set to battle to the death in the Royal Lycan Arena."
"Lady Floraina has summoned the ancient seal of the Floral domain... She intends to kill Prince Treyton in a single move. Dechlan and the Royal Lycan warriors have restrained the situation, but I’m not sure for how long they can hold." Luther reported in a grim tone.
Askel gaze narrowed as a low growl escaped his lips.
The ancient seal of the Floral domain was one of the most powerful spells of the fairies and even Askel had never witnessed it’s strength before.
However rumours spoke of it’s earth shaking power and if there was any truth to those rumours,
Then not just Prince Treyton but the entire Ethereal Palace and as far into the Ethereal Domain as the area of effect of the spell spread would be affected.
Askel did not care if both species had scores to settle, he absolutely would not tolerate them overturning his territory in the process.
As long as they were on his lands, their war would have to wait till they returned to their own territory.
Askel did not even want to begin to wonder as to what had led the Fairy Queen to declare war on the merfolk,
Queen Heveneth had always been an erratic character and as the specie with the greatest population in the supernatural realm, she never hesitated to throw her weight around.
However Askel was certain there had been no grudges between the Fairy Queen and the Sea King, if there was any race the Fairy Queen detested, then it was the vampires.
So Askel could not understand why there would suddenly be a battle between two species that had never had a confrontation for centuries, to the extent that the representatives were hell bent on claiming each other’s lives.
"I close my eyes for a moment and the entire realm is falling apart..." Askel growled out as he stormed out of his quarters.
