The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 154: Still Slept ()
"Askel." Allen greeted as he stepped into the guest quarters of the Floral Domain where Zariah rested.
As it had been for the past week, Allen would always walk in to find King Askel sitting by Zariah’s side, whispering words of assurance and affection to her.
It was said that even in a state of unconsciousness, there was a possibility Zariah could hear Askel’s words and perhaps his words would trigger her to regain consciousness even quicker.
So far, Zariah had shown no signs of consciousness but King Askel had not given up hope...Allen did not think the Ethereal Alpha King ever would.
Allen had always held doubts in his heart, though he never revealed it, he was wary of King Askel.
It was difficult for Allen to trust a stranger with Zariah completely, even if that stranger happened to be her mate.
The Crimson wolves had heard so much of the world beyond their barrier, of the evil that festered in the hearts of men.
They were not to be trusted, they could not be relied on, Allen always believed so.
It was only natural he regarded Askel with a level of suspicion, Allen was afterall Zariah’s beta, in a case where Zariah’s emotions could interfere with her discernment, Allen would be by her side to ensure Zariah did not make the wrong call.
However Allen found somehow, he had come to completely trust King Askel even more so than Zariah herself did.
One could say Allen’s heart had been one... because even now, as Allen watched King Askel gaze down at Zariah adoringly, Allen’s heart warmed.
Perhaps Allen did not trust King Askel himself, but what Allen truly trusted was King Askel’s love for Zariah... that deep, earnest love that was so clear in King Askel’s eyes.
"You have not slept in days, it would do you good to get some rest. I will watch over Zariah in the mean time." Allen offered as he walked over to King Askel and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
Allen had to admit he was worried for King Askel, though the Ethereal Alpha King acted like everything was fine, Allen knew for sure Askel was taking Zariah’s condition much harder than he let on.
King Askel had also sustained a severe injury that was healing much too slowly, yet he did not give a care to his own well being.
All of Zariah’s affairs were handled by King Askel in person, the only time he allowed anyone else near Zariah was when the healer gave Zariah a bath in medicinal tonic to aid her recovery.
And in that time, King Askel would wait right outside the washroom, not moving even an inch away.
In these past days, Allen had been quite busy himself and Allen could not have felt so reassured to leave Zariah in King Askel’s care if he had not seen for himself just how dearly King Askel cherished Zariah.
Allen had overseen the vow of truce between the floral domain and the sea kingdom as Zariah intended, knowing Zariah was in good hands.
It had been a difficult endeavor but at the end of it all, it had all gone smoothly.
The two domains had come to an understanding, there would no longer be any unprovoked aggression against one another.
Both domains could never be on friendly terms but at the least, the threat of war had been quelled.
Allen had not expected the complete turn around from the fairy queen who was the toughest nut to crack, but it had happened... the supreme fairy queen admitted to her wrongs before her council, the mers and crimson moon alike.
Queen Heveneth had stepped down from her position as Queen herself, her last act of authority being the vow of truce with the Sea kingdom.
The fairy council had unanimously voted in Lord Dinani to replace Queen Heveneth’s position... for the first time in history, the Floral Domain would have a male monarch and a nymph no less.
The restrictions of noble births and dominance of the fairies in the floral domain had begun shifting.
Allen felt things had ended in the best way they possibly could have, Battle Lord Dinani would make a fair and just ruler and he would always have Queen Heveneth’s counsel right by his side.
"It’s fine... I’m fine. I heard from Nile. Dinani is to be Fairy King." King Askel replied in a hoarse tone, cracked from disuse.
"So it happened." Allen said with a quiet sigh as he also took a seat.
"You have done well, it all went as Zari hoped. She would satisfied with this result." King Askel commended in a low tone.
"How I wish she would tell me those words in person..." Allen murmured in a heavy tone as he gazed down at Zariah, her expression peaceful and her breaths steady yet her eyes had not come open in over a week.
"How are you faring?... Truly?" Allen asked King Askel after a moment of quiet.
King Askel sucked in a shaky breathe and it was clear he struggled to keep his emotions in check and hold up his strong facade.
"I... I’m losing it." King Askel admitted finally.
Allen nodded in understanding, he could not expect King Askel to be fine when his mate was in such a condition.
Allen himself was far from fine and he knew it was the same for the rest of the Crimson wolves. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Darren had cooped himself up in the royal archives, Allen knew Darren’s grief was even greater because it was accompanied by guilt.
Nile would say nothing, he would only visit Zariah daily and then he would leave, returning to meditation...so much so that Kristen was growing restless.
Allen himself had thrown himself into the affairs of the truce vow, consuming his thoughts with duties till there was nothing left to do...
But face the reality that a week had gone by and still Zariah slept...and Creator alone knew what the future held.
