Chapter 147: Something Missing (Ch.147)

Darren ran a hand through his hair, his heart was tight with pain as he stepped into Eloneth’s room.

Darren stared over at the beautiful fairy with hair now turned as white as snow,

Between Zariah and Eloneth, Darren was in utter devastation.

Accompanied with that was the self blame, the thought that he could have done something more... something better to avoid all of this.

Zariah had already been through so much, Darren knew it too...yet he let her make such a sacrifice.

No one said anything or cast blames on Darren but Darren was certain deep within, King Askel and everyone else detested him... perhaps Zariah would too.

From the very moment she had become Crimson Alpha, Zariah had always been the one making the sacrifices.

’Holt...we can’t do anything for them... nothing...’ Darren thought to his wolf as he walked over to his mate and slumped down to a seat beside her.

Eloneth had shown no signs of regaining consciousness, much like Zariah, the healer could not tell when Eloneth would regain consciousness.

What was a fairy to be without her magic? Eloneth had lost the lifeline of every fairy and Darren feared when his mate awakened to realize this, she would be shattered.

Darren took hold of Eloneth’s hand, his thumb grazing slowly over the back of her palm, there was a tender look in his eyes as he stared down at her.

"I have placed the life of my own blood in jeopardy to save you... would you still leave me? Would you not let me hear your voice?" Darren asked in a low whisper.

Darren sucked in a shaky breath to calm himself, tilting his head back to blink back the tears gathering in his eyes.

Darren couldn’t afford to cry, he had to be strong, if not for himself but for Eloneth, Zariah and Crimson Moon.

"It will all be fine..." Darren assured himself and not for the first time, he had no faith in his own words.

Eloneth’s eyes fluttered open, a quiet groan escaped her lips as she squinted so her eyes adjusted to the bright lighting.

It took a moment before her sensitive eyes adjusted and Eloneth lifted a hand to her forehead, a pulsing ache radiated in her head and she rubbed her temple slowly in an attempt to relieve it.

’What happened?’ Eloneth thought in confusion as her memories were all jumbled up and unclear.

They were a mix up of a series of events and it took Eloneth a few moments before she could place them in order in her mind.

One moment she had been preparing for the summer festival in the enchanted woods of the pixies and whatever happened afterwards was all a blur.

All she could remember was a chilling cold, a chill that seeped right into her bones as though she was encased in ice.

Eloneth’s gaze moved over her surrounding slowly, taking note of the fact that she was in her room.

’I shouldn’t be here...’ Eloneth thought to herself, she could not recall leaving the enchanted woods at all, or leading the festival like she was supposed to... so how had she ended up back in her quarters?

Eloneth lifted herself to a sitting position, it took some effort since her muscles felt stiff and sore, Eloneth could hardly feel her wings too.

It was only when Eloneth sat up that she took note of the comforting weight rested on her lap.

’What in the summer woods...’ Eloneth thought to herself as her gaze moved to her lap.

Her eyes rested on a sight that made her heart beat faster and all her missing memories came rushing back in.

Laid on her lap and sound asleep was a dashingly handsome young man, Eloneth could tell he was a wolf shifter and from the electrifying jolts spreading through her from their point of contact,

Eloneth could already tell who this wolf shifter was to her.

"Mate..." Eloneth murmured in a quiet tone, a small smile settling over her lips as warmth blossomed in her heart.

Eloneth’s words seemed to awaken her mate as his head lifted up from off her lap and his sleep deprived gaze settled on her.

In that moment, his eyes lit up and a smile spread across his lips, a smile Eloneth returned with an even brighter smile.

"You’re awake..." He began, trailing off, unsure of what more to say.

That was just fine, since Eloneth herself had tons of words she wanted to say but as she made to speak, a searing pain shot through her heart.

A pained gasp slipped out of Eloneth, her hand moving to grasp her chest and her eyes wide with confusion.

Eloneth immediately knew something was off, something was wrong with her and it did not take much to figure out just what was missing.

It was something that had always been a significant part of her existence, a piece of her that was as important as the air she breathed.

And without it, a hollow feeling was left behind.

"I... I can’t feel my magic... I can’t feel my magic!" Eloneth exclaimed in horror just as the doors came open and Queen Heveneth and the healer came in.

"My dear child!" Queen Heveneth exclaimed as she hurried over to Eloneth.

"Mother...my magic, it’s gone..." Eloneth sobbed out, clutching her mate’s hand for dear life.

"The ice curse has seeped within your blood stream Princess, you were encased in the ice lake for far too long..."

"As a summer fairy, I fear your magic core has been destroyed." The healer revealed to an already frantic Eloneth.

"Destroyed?..." Eloneth stuttered out, her eyes wide with horror.

"Eloneth...it will be okay..." Queen Heveneth began to comfort, reaching for Eloneth but Eloneth shrinked away from her mother.

"I heard it all... I recall everything! This is all your fault mother, you did this to me! You ruined me!" Eloneth shrieked furiously, her eyes blazing with rage.
