Chapter 122: Battling The Changeling Demon (Ch.122)

The changeling demon, taken aback by the sudden appearance of Holt and Allen broke his concentration and in it’s distraction, the effect of the paralysis on Queen Heveneth was lifted momentarily.

Queen Heveneth’s hand shot up to her neck, ripping off the scale necklace and with the last ounce of magic within her, a powerful burst of ice magic exploded out of her,

The changeling demon was blasted backwards whilst Queen Heveneth collapsed down to the snow, exhausted and bleeding profusely from where the changeling demon had pierced into her skull.

Lord Kodin hurried to Queen Heveneth’s aid whilst Holt and Allen lunged after the changeling demon, Holt shifting into his wolf form mid air.

"Kodin, my magic... the demon has my magic and command over ice...be careful.." Queen Heveneth said through pained gasps.

"Watch out! The changeling demon absorbed fairy magic! It can control the ice!" Lord Kodin yelled to Allen and Holt, but his warning came too late.

The changeling demon rose to a crouch, his lips pulled back into a snarl as he slammed a hand down on the ice.

The moment his hand connected with the ice, cracks began spreading in a straight line, the ground breaking in to open a deep canyon.

Allen skidded to a stop at the very last minute, leaping out of the way as the ground where he had been previously caved in,

Holt also leaped out of the way, and wasted no time lunging again, leaping over the cracking ice.

The earth trembled violently as a huge pillar of ice was pulled off the ground and flung through the air.

Holt and Allen both spun out of the way in different directions, Holt’s paws sliding over the slippery ice and throwing him off balance as he skidded back till he dug his claws into the ice and steadied himself.

The ice pillar soared right past where the two Crimson wolves had just been, crashing into the ice and smashing into bits, sending ice shards flying everywhere.

The changeling demon cackled evilly as it stretched a hand out and all the shards of ice froze mid air, coming under it’s control.

Holt snarled in annoyance as the changeling demon sent the shards of ice shooting for Queen Heveneth and the rest of the party at blinding speed,

"Holt! Protect them!" Allen ordered through their mindlink and Holt frowned in reluctance but dashed back, leaping over the canyon and taking a stand before the barely conscious Queen Heveneth and Lord Kodin who cradled her in his arms.

"Remind me to ask exactly what kind of relationship this two have, one moment they want to kill each other and now... they’ve been acting suspicious right from the start." Holt thought to Darren.

"Focus Holt!" Darren reprimanded his wolf whilst Holt merely scoffed in response as he focused his attention on the battle.

Holt’s eyes moved sharply as he called upon his element,

In the frozen disaster that was the winter woods, there was only ice for as far as the eye could see,

But beyond the barrier was the Earth in all of it’s beauty, and at Holt’s command, large boulders were uprooted from the summer woods and the boulders of rock shot into the barrier,

Holt’s eyes glowed as he wielded his element, the boulders of rock merging together to form a large slab that shielded him and the rest of the party just in time for the ice shards to slam into the rock slab, shattering on impact.

"With Queen Heveneth’s magic, within this Winter woods, everything is the demon’s weapon." Lord Kodin said in a grim tone as they watched the changeling demon wield Queen Heveneth’s magic again,

Two large ice pillars trembled violently as they slowly uprooted from the ground.

"The demon isn’t the only one capable of wielding ice magic, to act so brazen before me...he must have a death wish!" A voice Holt recognized as belonging to Elrod, Allen’s wolf sounded in his head.

Although Allen was still in control, Elrod was clearly pissed that the battle was still dragging on when it could have easily been taken care of in one strike.

"I was going to ask when you intended to do something about this." Holt thought back.

"We will have to take care of it ourselves, with the flying shards, it’s still okay for us but it will be difficult for the rest to escape unscathed. How long can you hold the slab?" Allen thought to Holt.

"As long as is needed, I’ll cover them... this is yours." Holt thought back as he reverted back to his human form and summoned even more rock boulders, enlarging the rock slab so it provided better protection.

"Clear the way." Allen thought to Holt and Holt nodded in agreement.

The ice pillars were already in motion, if Allen left the protection of the rock slab at this moment, he would not be able to defend himself against the attack in time.

Holt would have to destroy the ice pillars first so there was a clear path for Allen to get to the changeling demon.

The two ice pillars hurtled through the air and Holt snarled as he thrust his hand out and a few boulders of rock shot out to clash with the pillars.

The ice pillars shattered on impact in that moment, Holt spun his hands and dozens of smaller rock boulders shot out of the rock slab and hit down the ice shards, creating an opening for Allen.

"Go!" Holt roared, and Allen lunged, leaping over the rock slab and darting straight for the changeling demon with blinding speed.

"Allen can’t face it alone!" Vima, the council vampire exclaimed in concern.

Despite the situation, Holt found himself thoroughly amused by the misplaced concerns.

Holt was seriously beginning to lament that he did not come into the winter woods with Allen alone, they were better suited to battle together.

Holt wondered if the council vampire had not realized that the only reason Holt and Allen had retreated was to protect them from the ice shards.

If the Crimson Beta could not face a single changeling demon on his own, then the Crimson Moon was not at all deserving of it’s name.

Allen was not any less powerful than the water element lord of Crimson Moon and so Holt found it amusing that the more vulnerable people actually had the luxury to worry about others.

Holt guessed the world outside the barrier truly did underestimate the Crimson Moon, but he felt it was okay...they would learn.

"Ice is merely a variation of water magic, and Allen is amongst the most powerful water wolves of Crimson Moon... this is his battleground."

"We are the ones in more danger of being impaled by ice shards during the cross fire, in short... what I mean to say is, you should worry about your own self." Holt advised.

Allen raced across the slippery ice, the cracks trailing behind him as some parts of the ice caved in and he leaped over those parts on his way to the changeling demon.

Allen kept a steady pace, even when a huge ice pillar shot at him, he did not bother dodging out of the way,

Instead his eyes glowed and the large ice pillar shattered completely.

Allen leaped over the shards, knowing Holt would take care of them as he kept his sight fixed on his prey,

Closing the distance between them, Allen lunged, tackling the changeling demon down to the ground, his claws encircling the demon’s neck and digging into his flesh.

Allen’s speed did not falter as he raced forwards, pulling the screeching and thrashing demon along with him and weaving between the ice pillars so the demon’s body slammed into each of the pillars.

The demon shrieked, it’s blood dying the ice red as it was unable to maintain Lord Dinani’s form and it’s horrendous appearance was restored.

"We can’t kill it yet Elrod! We need to know who is behind this." Allen thought to his wolf who battled for control to rip the demon into shreds.

"Suit yourself." Elrod huffed as he relented.

Allen finally stopped and flung the creature into a pillar, his lips bared and sharp canines on display as Allen released an earth shaking growl.

The demon struggled to his feet, on it’s hind legs, it’s red orbs furious as it’s tail flicked in agitation, it’s breathing heavy and panting as blood dripped from it’s neck and upper arm.

The demon’s orbs revealed it’s defiance and Allen knew it was still unwilling to submit.

The demon released a ferocious shriek as it’s hind legs scratched the surface of the ice, preparing to attack and Allen frowned in displeasure.

"It clearly doesn’t know what’s good for it, still don’t want to kill it?" Elrod asked Allen . 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Allen circled the demon, low growls escaping his lips as his orbs glowed, his wolf accepting the challenge of dominance.

"We can’t kill it... but I will be damned if I don’t rip out it’s limbs from it’s body." Allen thought back.

"And we finally agree on something..." Elrod murmured.
