Chapter 123: Lord Imain (Ch.123)

In the throne room of the Northern Sea Palace, there was a tense atmosphere as a merman with an imposing aura and an impressive built sat on his throne, casually sipping from a goblet.

His upper half was bare of any clothing save for the golden armbands around his muscular arms.

Extending from his midriff was a massive tail, a deep green shade, the exact shade of sea weeds and the tail stretched for an impressive length of 13ft and ended in two curved fins that swayed back and forth, causing slight ripples in the water.

Although the bearing of this merman seemed calm, the atmosphere in the throne room and the expression on the faces of the other mers in the throne room was anything but calm. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Other than this imposing merman seating in the throne, there were six other chairs on which five displeased looking mers were sat and these five mers including the mer seated on the throne were the feudal sea lords of the six seas surrounding the main sea.

The council of sea lords had gathered together on the summons of the Northern Sea Lord to discuss the missing Tide Trident and what was to be done about it.

This was the first council meeting to be held by the sea lords in almost two decades as the Sea Kingdom had remained the most peaceful of all the supernatural domains.

However as of recent, things were clearly no longer as peaceful as they used to be with the Floral Domain declaring war on the Sea Kingdom and now, even the Tide Trident had disappeared.

Being one out of the only two Sea Lords of royal birth, Lord Imain was in his rights to call for a council of the Sea Lords when the Sea King had failed to do the needful and all the Sea Lords had responded to the summons without hesitation.

The council had just gathered and were yet to even begin deliberations but the very first words out the mouth of Lord Imain brought about this palpable tension and left the Sea Lords exchanging looks of apprehension.

Lord Imain infact had his own intentions for calling this council meeting, he did not truly care for the missing trident, if anything...it was much better it stayed missing.

That way, there would be no one within the Sea capable of wielding the power of the Creator...then the play field would finally become levelled.

The Sea should have always been a fight of the fittest, there should never have been so much power accorded to one whilst the others were left to forever be inferior, forever having to bow and obey orders.

And so Lord Imain had posed a question to the council of Sea lords, the only question he was interested in getting an answer to... although the answer to this question would not change anything.

Either ways, Lord Imain would do what he had set his heart to do, his chance had finally come and he most definitely would take it.

"Lord Imain, did we hear you correctly?" The tense silence was finally broken by a female mer with a tail and scales of a deep purple shade, whilst her brunette tresses dangled down her back.

This mer was Lady Olga, Lord and custodian of the Southern Seas.

"Lady Olga of the South Sea, if you have a better suggestion, then you are free to air your thoughts." Lord Imain replied in a cold monotone.

"I... this is preposterous!" Lady Olga exclaimed.

Lord Imain frowned slightly, if there was one thing he detested the most, it was the fact that these sea lords all thought they each were of equal status.

Lord Imain was of royal blood, born to the legitimate royal lineage of the sea, he would never be in the same league as the rest of them.

"Preposterous? You know what is preposterous Lady Olga? The fact that the Tide Trident is missing! Snatched from the hands of the Sea King! That is preposterous!" Lord Imain replied with a low hiss.

"That circumstance considered, we are gathered here to discuss a way forward, are we not?! Not to question the Sea King’s rulership!" Lord Melven of the Coral seas spoke up in support of Lady Olga.

"My thoughts exactly! I bet that dastardly fairy queen had a hand in this, what are we sitting around discussing King Himan for?!"

"We should be discussing what to do about the Floral Domain!" Lord Jole of the Eastern Seas said, slamming a hand down on his table with rage.

The other Sea lords echoed their support and Lord Imain just looked on with a bored expression on his face before he placed down the goblet in his hands.

"I only asked a simple question which I believe we all must be sensible enough to have considered at one time or the other..."

"After two centuries of leadership, could King Himan’s clarity have gotten...muddled? Is he still worthy to govern the fate of the seven seas?" Lord Imain asked.

"Lord Imain, these words can be considered as harboring treasonous intents and we will not stand for it! Since when did it become your place to question His Grace’s rule?!" Lady Olga hissed.

"I questioned his rule? King Himan’s rule was already in question from the very moment he allowed the Sea Kingdom’s treasure to be carted away! I only state the facts! The truth you all are too blind to see!" Lord Imain snarled.

"In all the history of the Sea Kingdom, when have we ever been so humiliated?! First the Floral Domain and now even the Tide Trident was snatched right from under the noses of the Sea King and his elite guards! And I questioned his rule?!" Lord Imain demanded, leaning forwards on his throne, his eyes flashing with rage.

"The Sea King got the Floral Domain to withdraw their army, did he not?! Since when has he ever failed in his duty?! We should be focused on finding the Tide Trident and not trying to undermine his authority!" Lady Olga insisted on her stance.

Lord Imain hissed lowly, he knew this point would be brought up right from the moment he had heard of it.

Lord Imain was thoroughly displeased with the Fairy Queen, he had not expected she was so fickle that she would withdraw her troops on a whim when she had been the one to beat the drums of war first.

Lord Imain was even more displeased with the meddling Crimson Moon, how had they suddenly appeared when everything was going so well and just why did they have to stick their noses in every affair?

However Lord Imain admitted he had to be grateful to them too, if it had not been the Crimson Moon snatching the Tide Trident, how would such a great opportunity present itself?

And he did not even have to worry about doing anything else to sow discord between the Ethereal domain, the Crimson Moon and the Sea Kingdom.

If what had happened to the Chief of Royal Guards was not enough to enrage King Himan, the missing Tide Trident would do exactly that.

Lord Imain knew all he had to do now was seize power while King Himan was vulnerable, that way even when the Tide Trident was recovered, it would then become his right to wield it.

"Lord Imain, this is not the time to sow discord and argue amongst ourselves. The Floral Domain may have retreated for the time being but who knows exactly what that Fairy Queen is up to? We cannot be too careful."

"We must find the Tide Trident before it falls into the wrong hands and then we can discuss the Sea King’s faults." Lord Melven reasoned.

As the sea lords discussed the topic back and forth, a short moment passed by before their discussions were interrupted as a battle mer swam into the palace.

"Lord Imain, the Sea King has sent a message... the culprit behind the disappearance of the trident has been apprehended."

"The Sea King wants the Lords to know he shall escort the culprit here in person to answer before the council of Lords." The battle mer reported.

Lord Imain was caught off guard by the report while the Sea Lords exchanged glances and nodded their heads in approval.

"In that case, we will await the King’s arrival before any further deliberations." Lord Melven decided.

Lord Imain gritted his teeth, he had hoped it would not have to come to this but at this point, there was no longer any need for hesitation.

"I fear I cannot agree with that decision." Lord Imain murmured as he snapped his fingers and dozens of battle mers trooped in to the throne room, surrounding the sea lords.

"Lord Imain! What is the meaning of this?!" Lady Olga shrieked furiously whilst the other Sea lords swam off their seats, their eyes flashing in rage as they stared around at the battle mers surrounding them.

Lord Imain sighed at the unnecessarily loud tone of the mermaid.

"It seems Lady Olga is in need of some alone time and I am dearly in need of some peace and quiet. Show her to the solitary cells." Lord Imain ordered as the battle mers lunged at Lady Olga and apprehended the shrieking mer.

As lady Olga’s shrieks echoed down the halls, Lord Imain reverted his gaze to the other Sea Lords.

"The night is young still... I believe we can all agree there will be no need to delay our discussions any longer." Lord Imain said with a smirk.
