Chapter 117: Queen Heveneth 2 (Ch.117)

The glow in Dinani’s eyes disappeared almost as quickly as it had come, his eyes returning to their familar forest green, leaving Queen Heveneth wondering if she had seen it right.

"I know what I said, beloved. I know all I have said but this is not the time to bring my words to remembrance. I was weak hearted then, I could not see the truth for what it was." Lord Dinani said in a pained tone.

"Beloved, you have been the one in the right. The alliance is a threat to our domain, that unreasonable peace treaty that prevents us from seeking vengeance from the Sea Kingdom..." Lord Dinani’s voice cracked at this point as though he could not bear to speak further.

Queen Heveneth’s heart ached to see the pain of her mate, a pain that mirrored that which she felt.

Of course, Dinani was the only one who understood her, he understood her pain and rage at loosing her only child because Eloneth was Dinani’s beloved daughter too.

Queen Heveneth sighed, she knew not what could be done now, her heart was filled with confusion and uncertainties and she felt like she was a child all over again, unable to discern right from wrong.

Who was at fault? Who could be blamed for Eloneth’s abduction? There were no traces left behind, just who could give her an explanation as to what had happened to her daughter?

"What would you have me do Dinani? What?" Queen Heveneth asked weakly.

"It’s our Eloneth...not anyone else beloved, it’s our daughter. I will not let the Sea Kingdom go scot free, my battle fairies are ready for attack at any moment, tell me you will stand with me." Lord Dinani asked in a tender tone as he grazed a hand down Queen Heveneth’s cheek.

"But the Crimson Moon..." Queen Heveneth began to protest but was cut off by Dinani.

"They do not matter! No one does! Not the Crimson Moon, not the Ethereal Domain, not the supernatural council... only Eloneth!" Dinani hissed quietly, clearly forcing himself to maintain a calm tone.

Dinani sucked in a deep breath whilst Queen Heveneth just watched her mate, unable to fathom what she was seeing.

Queen Heveneth had never seen Dinani in such a state of rage and angst, exuding so much hatred and loathing.

"Eloneth is all that matters and if we must overturn the supernatural realm to avenge her, then that is what we shall do." Lord Dinani said.

Although his gaze was tender, Queen Heveneth could sense the hate and blood thirst in Dinani’s aura, it was strange and unfamiliar to find on her ever calm and carefree mate.

Queen Heveneth felt conflicted, on one hand, this was a side of Dinani she had longed to see for centuries, a side of him that supported her methods not because he had to, but because he understood and was of one mind with her.

However as much as Queen Heveneth had wanted that, she did not understand why she felt rather unsettled by this cold, bloodthirsty side of him...it just did not feel right.

Queen Heveneth loved her daughter dearly and she loved her mate too, she felt it was okay if she was the only one spiralling into the dark abyss of rage and hatred,

Born the only winter fairy in the royal lineage of summer fairies, that had been the life she had always known.

But Dinani was pure, untainted...he was a light, the only light she had in her world of darkness,

Yet this man before her eyes was tainted, in a way Queen Heveneth could not explain and the mere thought that loosing their daughter had pushed Dinani over the edge horrified Queen Heveneth.

"Dinani... beloved, look at me." Queen Heveneth sobbed, lifting her hands to cradle her mate’s face.

"This is not you Dinani, this just isn’t you. I already lost Eloneth, don’t let me loose you too." Queen Heveneth pleaded as she stroked his cheeks with her thumb, hoping to provide some comfort.

"There are still three days left, there is still hope for our Eloneth. Do not give up yet Dinani, let us believe in our child, she will come back to us." Queen Heveneth found herself in the position Dinani had always been,

She found herself being the one pulling the man she loved out of the darkness that was slowly consuming him,.

And when Dinani turned his face away from her just like she always did to him when she would not hearken to his advice, Queen Heveneth’s heart constricted in pain and she found herself wondering,

’Was this how Dinani felt whenever I turned away from him? Whenever I refused to heed his advice? Was this how much it hurt him to see me fall into the darkness of rage and hunger for power?’

’Was this how helpless he had felt each and every time for the past two hundred years by my side?’

This bitter feeling in the pit of her stomach filled her heart with guilt as she realized just how horrible of a mate she had been to Dinani.

"Dinani... please don’t be like this, it’s killing me to see you like this." Queen Heveneth sobbed quietly as she rested her forehead against his.

"I was not going to say this, but perhaps I should not have kept it from you. My sources report important intel."

"The Alpha King of the Ethereal Domain along with the Head warrior of Crimson Moon are at this very moment guests in the Sea Palace, and yet this Intel was kept hidden from the entire supernatural realm." Lord Dinani said in a dark tone.

Queen Heveneth froze up at the words of Lord Dinani.

"Do you reckon the Lord of the supernatural realm or the Crimson Beta are not aware of this? They know it clearly and they have come here to mislead us with lies!"

"They cannot find Eloneth, you know why?! Because our daughter is gone and you just refuse to accept it Heveneth! Accept the reality!"

"With each second we do not take action, we give the Sea Kingdom more time to prepare for war!"

"We have already lost the element of surprise and we will loose a whole lot more, is this all merely a coincidence?"

" Or is it a ploy by the supernatural rulers to take down the floral domain?! Think Heveneth!" Lord Dinani seethed,

Queen Heveneth’s hands clenched into fists as she stood up to her feet, her eyes flashing with rage as she contemplated over Dinani’s words.

No matter how Queen Heveneth thought of it, King Askel Vance Niolen of the Ethereal Domain was an honorable man, he would not resort to such underhanded methods like buying the hands of the Sea Kingdom to attack her Floral domain.

"The other supernatural rulers are indeed untrustworthy, but we both know the Crimson Moon do not care for power tussles."

"They have no personal ties to any of the domain and they would not support the Sea Kingdom for a war, they are against wars in the first place." Queen Heveneth reasoned with Dinani,

"And King Askel may hold grudges against me for going after his life repeatedly, but that is a personal grudge. King Askel is a man of integrity, he would much rather attack the Floral Domain himself if he held such intentions."

"Besides, he was only just crowned Alpha King. A war between the Floral Domain and the Sea Kingdom would not benefit him at all, he would not support the Sea King." Queen Heveneth decided.

Although Queen Heveneth knew she and King Askel were not on the best of terms, but that was only because she feared he would be too powerful of a ruler if he ascended the throne and so she had tried to get rid of him earlier on.

In any case, she had failed repeatedly and had already given up on the idea of assassinating King Askel.

"So you mean to say you shall stand aside and place your faith in the Crimson Moon?" Lord Dinani asked,

"Very well, I will take care of it myself." Lord Dinani decided as he rose off Queen Heveneth’s throne and descended the steps, brushing past her.

"Dinani, wait!" Queen Heveneth called, stopping him before he could step out of the throne room.

"Give me tonight to ponder over it... I will call for the fairy elders tomorrow." Queen Heveneth decided with a tired smile.

"Alright, rest early beloved." Dinani said with a nod as he stepped out of the throne room.

Queen Heveneth listened to the fading footsteps of her mate, her expression narrowed into a furious gaze.

"Dinani... what have they done to you? Who dares to lay a hand on you?" Queen Heveneth seethed as she stretched her hand and summoned her ice whip from where it rested on it’s holder.

A dangerous light flashed in her eyes as she turned and strode out of her throne room, trailing behind her mate, Dinani.
