The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 111: On Edge ()
"It’s been four days Allen, we’ve tracked down every lead, there’s no sign of Princess Eloneth anywhere." Darren said in a grim tone as he ran a hand through his hair in frustration.
Four days had passed by and after a tiring day of search, the party which consisted of Darren, Allen, the members of the supernatural council as well a tracking team of pixies led by the pixie lord and Conrad.
The party had covered the entire distance from the enchanted forest to the border of the Eastern Sea Shores, searching every nook and cranny and they had all reconvened in a cave in the outskirts of the Eastern Sea Shore.
Darren had never before encountered such a hopeless investigation, there were absolutely no traces left behind in the enchanted forest yet it was impossible the Fairy Princess had just disappeared into thin air.
If the mermen had abducted her, from the heart of the enchanted forest all the way to the border of the Eastern Seas, there would most definitely have been some traces left behind.
Even if a portal had been used, there would be traces of Sea magic left behind or any foreign magic if the culprit was someone other than the merfolk.
Darren had followed every possible lead, yet there were no signs indicating that Princess Eloneth had been taken out of the enchanted forest at all.
How could it be possible that the scene had been wiped completely clean with no traces left behind? Who could pull off an abduction to such perfection that it could miss Darren’s intuition?
Darren was an Earth wolf, so long as Princess Eloneth had been taken across land, no matter how long it had been, he should still have been able to track her scent.
And the fact that he was yet to figure this situation out infuriated him, Zariah was counting on them to handle the Floral Domain... failure was not even an option.
"Calm yourself Ren, we still have three days left from the allotted time, the Fairy Princess could not have disappeared without a trace, someone somewhere knows something they aren’t saying yet."
"We will find her, but you are our tracker and we need you to be at your best." Allen reminded in a stern tone.
"Allen is right. Warrior Darren, do not beat yourself up, we have all seen your efforts over the past few days. We will not relent in our search till the allotted time is up." The Pixie Lord assured while perching on a rock, his little wings flapping ever so often.
Darren nodded once as he stared at the fire that had been lit, watching the burning embers as he thought over the situation.
"Is this how you plan to find my Eloneth?!" A sharp voice interrupted the peace and quiet of the cave as the air was charged with a magical presence and in the blink of an eye, Queen Heveneth materialized.
Her feet was bare as always and again she wore a sheer white dress adorned with flower petals while there was a slab of flower petals beneath her feet, preventing her feet from touching the ground.
Her ever doting companion, Battle Lord Dinani stood behind her along with two fairy maidens as she stormed up to Allen.
"Beta of Crimson Moon! You gave me your word!" Queen Heveneth shrieked in rage, her porcelain features turning red.
"You will do well to address the Crimson Beta with respect, Your Grace!" Darren snarled as he moved to Allen’s side, his eyes narrowed in a fierce glare and his canines bared.
Unlike the ever calm Allen, as easy going as a flowing stream, Darren had no intentions to tolerate the Fairy Queen’s disdain.
Allen who stood leaning against the wall passed the raging queen a bored glance before he pushed off the wall and placed a hand on Darren’s shoulder.
"Easy Holt...easy..." Allen spoke to Darren’s wolf who had already risen to the surface and was ready to lunge at any moment.
"Queen Heveneth, this is neither the time nor the place..." Lord Kodin began but was rudely cut off by Queen Heveneth.
"The Crimson Moon will have to compensate the Floral Domain if Eloneth cannot be found!" Queen Heveneth declared in a tone she must have believed was intimidating.
Darren was already in a very bad mood and so he did not hesitate to lash out at the Fairy Queen, if she had believed Darren would be intimidated by her, then she had another thing coming.
"And why exactly would we do that?! You couldn’t keep your own daughter safe and now you go around, seeking who to lay the blame on!"
" I’m not getting paid to be out here at this time searching for your daughter, neither are you deserving of our efforts so don’t you even start or believe me when I say your daughter will be the least of your worries!" Darren snarled fiercely,
Darren’s hazel orbs glowed as battle lord Dinani took a threatening step forward and the cave began trembling in response to Darren’s rage.
"Can you find my daughter or not? And do not think you can get away if you fail to keep your word." Queen Heveneth warned although her eyes moved around the trembling cave warily.
"I have to wonder, it has only been four days and the three days left are many enough yet the Fairy Queen has come to pressure us."
"Are you more interested in actually finding your daughter or undermining the Crimson Moon to suit your ego...it is really difficult to tell." Allen spoke up before Darren could respond again.
Lord Kodin scoffed from where he stood, it was clear that the Fairy Queen’s pride had been greatly hurt by the order from the Crimson Alpha and she was seeking ways to get back at the Crimson Moon, even using the opportunity of her missing daughter.
"You! What are you implying?!" Queen Heveneth raged,
"A mother would be more concerned about the well being of her missing child, rather than seeking compensation. Clearly you are more a power hungry ruler than you are a mother."
"There are three days left, perhaps you even hope we fail to find her so you may hold this against the Crimson Moon as proof of our inability." Allen continued without hesitation.
"That’s not true!" Queen Heveneth shrieked.
"Is it? The Crimson Moon has no better tracker than Darren Holt Moonstone, if he cannot find your daughter, no one else can. What I mean to say is, he is the only one left who can find your daughter."
"Infuriating him and unsettling his focus is to your own detriment. And might ultimately lead to finding yourself buried beneath a rubble if this cave collapses."
" We have three days left of the allotted time, stay out of our way, Your Grace." Allen warned in a dark tone.
"Is that a threat?" Battle Lord Dinani challenged.
Darren scoffed as he moved forwards till he was right in Battle Lord Dinani’s face.
Darren lifted a hand and a crack began spreading rapidly on a part of the cave and as Darren curled his hand into a fist, in the blink of an eye, a huge boulder tumbled down, but hovered mid air before it could crash to the ground.
"Try.me...I dare you." Darren growled out in an animalistic tone, tossing aside all pretenses of cordiality.
"Holt... now is not the time, please give Darren control." Allen requested,
"We are both here." Darren replied without turning to Allen.
"Then you both are to calm down... now." Allen ordered in a stern tone.
Darren growled lowly but stepped back as he stretched a hand to the boulder and with a wave of his fingers, the boulder shot back up and lodged itself right where it collapsed from, the crack disappearing.
All eyes stared in awe at Darren’s perfect control of the components of the Earth, Darren guessed it was their first time to see an earth elemental.
"Queen Heveneth... return to your palace, in three days time, we will give you an answer." Lord Kodin broke the tense silence and with a huff, Queen Heveneth disappeared in a flurry of flower petals.
"Warrior Darren... I know you are angry but Queen Heveneth has always been this unreasonable, it would be best to take a more docile stance with her." The pixie lord advised.
"Am I to take orders from her now?! She is not my Alpha! Who the hell does she think she is?! She had better hope I don’t find her daughter and kill her myself! I’m done with this charade!" Darren growled out in anger as he stormed out of the cave.
The rest of the party exchanged glances, their expression grim as they could not decide how to react.
They knew clearly Darren was their best bet at finding the missing Princess as they had seen for themselves how excellent his tracking abilities were over the past few days.
"Allen..." Lord Kodin began but Allen cut him off.
"He worries for Zariah, they hold a bond stronger than siblings, he has not been apart from her this long since childhood. I will speak with him." Allen said as he turned and headed out the way Darren had gone.
