Tangled Hearts - The Alpha's Baby Mama-Chapter 239: To threaten a man to love you
Chapter 239: To threaten a man to love you
Selene POV
In the end, I had to push to go.
It was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever made but the whole point of ending the cycle is all about sacrifice, right? Beta Reid prepared for my evacuation because Kurtis had said firmly that he wanted nothing to do with it and he didn’t want to be a party after stalking out of the room with anger.
The good news was, I would be going alone and not with the girls. Secretly, I longed to be alone and see if there was a way, I could communicate with either Kragen or the moon goddess but especially Kragen. He would know what to do.
The journey to the mountain sanctuary was tense and hurried. I was bundled in a heavy cloak to conceal my identity and rode in a nondescript car surrounded by a mall but elite group of guards mostly Kurtis’s men. Noah had wanted to accompany me but we both knew he was needed to coordinate the pack’s defenses.
But I’ve been keeping in touch with Reid since I left the pack and there was no threat yet. The Foxes had suddenly stopped about five miles from Moon Whisper and were snarling and barking. They couldn’t move past some sort of barrier and as for the rogues rumoured to be coming from the South, no one had spotted them yet. But they had a drone checking the area every five minutes.
As we wound our way up the difficult mountain path, my mind raced with worry. For Noah, for our pack and for the future that seemed to grow more uncertain with each passing moment. If we go through this storm unscathed, I’m going to insist on going for the vacation we’ve been talking about for so long. Two days from today, I’ll be 6 months old and be left with three months to live. So, I should make the most of it.
If we continued to put it off because of what seemed to be happening anytime we wanted to put our feet up, then we would never go, that was for certain.
A sudden jolt nearly threw me from my seat. The car came to an abrupt halt and I heard the muffled sounds of a scuffle outside.
"Wait! Why?" I asked peering from the heavy cloak "What’s going on?"
"There seem to be some sort of blockage on the road and from what I think, I think the trees growing by the road must have gotten too old and finally fell. We’ll just move it, your Majesty, don’t worry,". The soldiers assured me.
I nodded and remained seated in my seat. After what felt like thirty minutes, I poked my head outside of the heavy cloak to discover that I was alone. I stared at the front of the car but didn’t see the driver or any of the guards who had been with me a few moments ago. Fear froze me to my seat as I tried not to panic. No matter what, I wouldn’t leave the car, that was the promise I had given Noah before leaving.
The car was a special car that had bulletproof abilities that could hold out for a long, it had a jam lock system. So, as the guards were all outside, it would only be me who could open the door from inside.
"Stay calm, Selene!’ I murmured to myself. Scanning the woods outside. It was eerie silent and I noticed a part of the tree had been taken off the road, so perhaps they went inside the woods to dump them so that the path could be free for other travellers. While I waited, a short moment later, the guards emerged from the bush.
They all went towards the heaviest trunk of the tree and in one heave, they lifted it and marched into the forest. I sighed in relief, slightly relaxed as I saw them leave. A while later, they returned and came towards the car. Giving me the sign that we agreed to use for each other, I opened the door for them.
"That took longer than supposed," I said trying not to sound like a whiny old woman. "I was beginning to think you all had abandoned me,".
"We would never, your majesty," they bowed their head in apology. "We decided to scout the area just to be sure this was not a trap. We’re sorry it took longer but you don’t have to worry, the car will provide a haven for you in case of any danger. Do you still remember how to activate the lockdown grid system?" they asked me.
"Sure thing," I nodded and relaxed against the backrest of the car as the driver pulled away down and continued driving. We had barely gone another fifteen minutes when noticed that there was another roadblock but this time around, it wasn’t a tree that had fallen... it was an intentional roadblock. Our driver paused and tried to assess the situation. All the soldiers stayed silent for a few minutes waiting to see if anyone would come open the door but nothing happened.
They all came down in unison, so they could work through the roadblock twice as fast but as soon as they came down, something swished through the air and before my eyes, I saw all my security team fall to the ground with loud thuds.
Then, silence.
I held my breath, one hand protectively covering my belly. What was happening? I reached for my phone in my pocket to quickly alert Noah of the current situation but there was no network coverage.
Suddenly the door of the car flew open and I found myself staring into a pair of familiar, hate-filled eyes.
"Hello, sister dear," Princess Jade sneered, her face splattered with blood. "I hope the surprise on your face is partly from seeing me and not because I opened the door. I forgot to mention, I was a very bad-ass student in computer and things like this back in school, so it wasn’t really hard,".
"What... What are you doing here?" I managed to ask. frёeωebɳovel.com
"I came for you," she answered without preamble "Did you think you could escape me so easily? C’mon darling...," she laughed "You must think I am stupid right?"
I recoiled, my back pressing against the end of the car. "But how did you find me? Not everyone was aware that I left the pack,".
"Find you?" She laughed, her lips curling into a cruel smile. "Oh, I have my ways and friends in high places now but majorly special thanks to Beta Reid... Only it took was one intimate night and my gently suggesting it to him earlier today. Now, don’t go around blaming him, he genuinely thinks sending young out of the pack will ensure your safety and he feels responsible for you and your unborn child according to him. Such fierce loyalty. You’re so lucky my dear Selene. That should be me carrying Noah’s child and being by his side. You stole him away from me,".
She reached into the car, grabbing my arm with bruising force. "Come now, we have so much to catch up on. And I believe I made you a promise, didn’t I? If your memory serves you, I told you you’d never take away Noah from me,".
"Who else is in on this with you?" I asked not bothering to fight with her "Is this just about owning Noah? Is that what Brooke said? Oh... she’s your lapdog, right? Did she tell you all the things she did to your beloved man?" I taunted loving the way she stopped what she was doing and turned to me.
I could see the conflict in her eyes to listen to me and also not to so I pressed on but before I could speak, she finally dragged me out of the car with such surprising strength that I didn’t know women possessed but she was a Lycan after all.
My eyes darted frantically around the scene. My guards lay motionless on the ground but none of them seemed to be bleeding and I couldn’t tell if they were dead or merely unconscious. In the distance, I could see a throng of people emerging from the trees.
"What are you doing to do?" I asked fighting to keep my voice steady.
Her grip on my arm tightened. "Oh sister," she said her voice dripping with false sweetness. "I’m going to make sure that child of yours never draws its first breath. And then, I’m going to watch as everything you and Noah have built crumbles to dust. But first, I’m going to give you pain... such imaginable pain that you’ll wish for death. But the goal is... by the end of this ordeal, Noah will have to choice than to marry me and discard you like the worthless fool you are,".
"So, you’re still going to use force to threaten a man to love you? How so you? Even your friend Brooke didn’t have to go through this stress before she climbed into Noah’s bed,".
Her eyes widened as she turned to me.
"What did you say?"
