They kept on the even pace. Keeping his attention keenly on what was in front of him, trusting Ning Feng to keep the rest behind in perfect view. He also kept an eye on Hu Lieana, he had his cards hidden and so probably did she, and Feng for a matter. But unlike with Feng, where he considered it irrelevant because he trusted her to always be on his side as a friend and fellow clan member, Hu Lienas secrets bothered him.

Tang San and Hu Liena halted at the same moment, with Ning Feng following their action.

"What is it?" Hu Liena asked in a low voice."

"We already walked quite far, yet have you noticed the air is getting hotter? Also, it is no longer quiet; there is something out there."

Behind them, Ning Feng took out her knife.

"T-Then they a-are after u-us," She said, teeth gritted. Hu Liena couldn't help but be secretly shocked. She had known that her Partners in this were not weak, but for both of their skills to be so formidable. The clarity and swiftness of Feng's movements made it clear that the stuttering woman had extensive battle experience, and Tang Yin noted that danger lay ahead; he was probably stronger in spirit power than she was.

Hu Liena gritted her teeth in frustration and admiration at the same time.

They were not much older than her, either, if they didn't share the same age. Then Hu Liena took a deep breath and had daggers appear in both of her hands. If there was danger ahead, then now was the wrong time to muse about the skill of others.

Tang San did not summon the Clear Sky hammer, but a faint light glashed in his hands.

Gradually, the sounds also appeared in Hu LIenas' spiritual boundary, not loud but high-pitched, moving toward them.

"It's c-closer," Feng said glancing downwards, and none of them needed to ask. The reservoir was closer now. No wonder it was hotter.

"We weren't moving downwards; there was no slope." Hu Liena gritted her teeth.

"We are still closer about a hundred or so metres. Considering it now, closer, it might not be a blood reservoir but magma; it will get hotter the farther we walk. If we keep going, we will eventually end up on the road leading into it. That must be the really difficult part of the test."

Hu Liena felt a cold shiver run down her spine at that conclusion, because she agreed with him; he was right. That was the most likely ending.

"For now, we need to deal with the issue at hand, though." Tang Said, and the sounds grew louder and louder as some red shadows approached them. The sound's frequency is ear-shatteringly high. It was a flock he noted, a large one, at least a thousand members of those creatures. After coming closer, one could see them clearly. One blood red bat after another, small-scale blood patterns on their enormous wings.

One or two were not a problem, he gritted his teeth, but so many, and right towards them.

"Ideas?"Hu Liena asked, her face grim, and she grabbed her knives tighter.

"Back to back." Tang San said.

"Alright." Hu Liean nodded her body, leaning against Tang Sans and Ning Feng's back. Ning Feng took a sword out from her storage and took a deep breath. Once again, Hu Liena found herself in amazement at the calmness of the tall support spirit master, who seemed so utterly unaffected by anything as she pressed accidentally closer to Tang San, who subtly avoided her only seconds later.

The blood-red bats were fast, making high-pitched noises and exposing sharp teeth. Their wings made the wind rise and the small bridge shake.

Tang San and Ning Feng both moved at lightning speed, untying the rope and then wrapping it around themselves to stay closer, making it even more impossible to separate them. Firmly pressed together, and their minds focused. Hu Liena did not object; their weight would give them more stability.

A Clear Sky Hammer appeared in Tang Sans left hand, and the weight added more stability, and despite the rather strong wind, now they stood as immovable as a rock.

Hu Liena released her spirit as her eyes turned pink, and the bats, seemingly intelligent, did not rush to attack but rather circled around them as if preparing to attack from all directions.

Tang Sans finger twirled, and a cold light shot forward, and he hissed as the bat actually dodged the flying needle.

"Bats are proficient at evading an enemy's attack. That's an ability not even a spiritual force can influence; shooting them from the sky is very, very difficult." Hu Liena pointed out, and Feng let out a curse.

"Alright." Tang San growled, and then a dozen bats charged at them. Tang San swung his Hammer, and as a pale blue light engulved them in a faint sheen, Ning Feng's blade moved at blinding speed. A blue light extended around them in the blink of an eye, and the bats who reeled backwards were almost confused.

Hu Liena was confused as she watched the bats drop to the ground, and her eyes ripped open as she muttered. "Domain."

"Don't move." Tang San warned, and Hu Liena did not move, even though her mind understood what had just happened. Tang Yin had a domain. How come. It was impossible for him to be a Title Douluo or have a ninth spirit ring-type domain. Which meant he had an innate domain. Which was even rarer.

The blood bats continued launching attacks, but they all suffered the same result once they entered the pale blue light. Even controlling their flight became difficult. In between Tang Sans and Ning Feng's flying needles, none of them came too close.

While it appeared effortless on Tang Sans' part internally, he silently endured the pressure, starting to silently cuss. Despite their success, Tang San and Ning Feng both knew that their greatest limitation was the range of their weapons, and neither could go beyond 20 metres in their current state. Also, the weapons were light and lacked spirit power.

It would be better if they had more volume of attack, but none of them was willing to do that, and the stashes of them both had suffered greatly during their time in Slaughter City; in fact, none of them had enough ammunition left to launch a larger-scale attack.

The blood bats were intelligent. After the third try, they no longer approached; they just circled around the blue pale sheen, beating their wings to destabilize it.

Tang San gritted his teeth; he would rather deal with attacks than with this constant interference. Also, his domain would not last forever.

"They are repulsive." Hu Liena hissed. Her attack methods were all used for close combat, so she was the most useless of them all, unable to do anything.

"We move forward." Tang san said. "Since they won't attack directly, that is the only choice we have; our long-range weaponry is not limitless."

Ning Feng loosened her straps but kept them close-tied as Tang San nodded and changed as well. Seconds later, he started running. Hu Liena was only centimeters behind him as Ning Feng followed, the domain around them shrinking in range. They accelerated, more and more on the narrow road, focusing less on synchronization and more on speed. Their acceleration started the bats, but the majority chased after them.

Tang San gritted his teeth as he turned and then in one direction shot out the pale blue aura out into one direction for a hundred metres, glancing at Ning Feng, who did not miss her chance, using a greater part of her remaining hidden weapons to take as many as she could out of the sky.

Piercing shrieks echoed through Hell Road as the first bats dropped to the ground injured.
