Taming the Hybrid Mate: Desired by Five Alphas-Chapter 123: Exams and exam results
Andria’s POV
Exam week was hell; it was one exam after another. And as usual, we had strict invigilation.
Kaelric wasn’t the one who invigilated us for the combat classes exams; in fact, it had been a while since I last saw him on Ashwood’s grounds, and my mind couldn’t wander to him now and then.
The hallways were filled with anxious whispers, scattered textbooks, and exhausted faces. Students who never cared about classes before were suddenly seen in the school grounds.
Well, they probably know how to sort their truant affairs.
Professors, Lunas, and some other teachers, along with members of the school council, obviously enjoyed this period.
Prof. Garrich, with his usual smug face, announced before our economics paper: "If you didn’t prepare, then I suggest you start praying to the moon goddess; probably she will help you."
"Praying won’t help anyone who didn’t prepare for Prof. Garrich’s exams. He is one hell of a strict marker; he only favors those he wants to favor, those in his good books," Arlo muttered beside me, burying his face in his hands.
"In other words, you have to either read hard or find a way to be in his good books," Becca added, "And we already know which category to fall in."
When the math exam came, I felt everyone’s eyes on me. My reputation in the subject wasn’t exactly excellent, especially after that last class, when I was detained; it was as if they had forgotten that I was ever answering questions in maths classes before that day.
Even Alexa had the nerve to mock me about it.
They have got a surprise waiting for them. I would show Allison the stuff I’m made of when it comes to math problems.
I remembered everything I had read, and of course, the problems were even easier than I thought they would be.
By the last paper, we were all drained, stumbling out of the halls like exhausted soldiers returning from battle.
"I’m glad the exams are finally over," Michaela whistled as we stepped out of the lab.
We had just finished the practical exams for physics. "The exams were actually very boring, I must admit; they weren’t as difficult as I had expected," Liara boasted.
"Well, let’s wait for the results," Becca said, waving her hair backwards in a gesture that suggested that we shouldn’t be so excited yet.
"Yeah, the results will tell if our hard work will pay off," I added.
The results came a week later, and we were all anxious to see our results.
"I can picture the look on Allison’s face when she finds out that you are, in fact, a maths genius," Becca said, a teasing smile curling at the corner of her lips.
Our form teacher, Luna Lyra, walked in with the dreaded stack of papers. The room fell into a suffocating silence.
She adjusted her glasses and began. "First of all, I want to say that you all tried your best in these exams," she paused, observing us all.
Some of you improved, while others, well, you’ll have to do better next session."
Nervous laughter rippled across the room and then died down. My heart was pounding so loud I could barely hear.
Luna Lyra began reading out the rankings. "Top student with a very remarkable result, much to my dismay because she was a new student," she paused and then directed her gaze to me.
"Aria," she finished.
My breath caught in my throat. I didn’t expect to be the top student, although I knew I would do well. The room erupted in murmurs.
"Wait...Aria?" a student whispered to her friend,
"How is that even possible that she can top the top student in class A?" another student murmured.
"She made her class arm proud, for the first time producing the top student," Luna Lyra.
"She actually topped?" another student whispered.
"No way..."
I knew they were astonished that I could be a top student after all, I’m the unserious new student who has been involved in various scandals, activities and drama.
Becca elbowed me. "Girl! You did it!"
A bold and proud smirk appeared on my face as I looked towards Aven, Tristan and Damon.
They didn’t look surprised. Aven wore a neutral expression, there was a hint of pride on Tristan’s face, while Damon wore a huge smirk.
"You see, you can do well in your exams with us close to you, after all," Damon whispered against my neck.
"Next time you may not be able to do so well," Tristan whispered.
It sounded like a seductive promise, causing a cold shiver to run down my veins to my core. I’ve almost forgotten that these three demons existed for a while.
Luna Lyra continued. "Second place goes to Aven."
There weren’t gasps; he was, after all, their top student. He must have been competing with his sister for the top student position for a while, so they were already accustomed to it.
"The third goes to Liara," Fourth, Allison, and surprisingly, the fifth position goes to one student who hasn’t been there before, Becca."
The whispers grew louder. Heads turned toward Allison, who sat stiff as stone, her lips pressed into a thin line. She looked like she had just swallowed poison.
"Did she just lose to Aria?" someone muttered.
The look on Allison’s face was priceless, a mix of shock and humiliation.
Tricia and Alexa, sitting nearby, wore similar expressions. They looked as if the floor had betrayed them by not opening up to swallow them whole.
"And for the rest..." Luna went on, mentioning Arlo and Michaela somewhere in the middle, not among the top students, but they performed well in their exams.
Tristan and Damon fell into that category, too. I was even surprised that they fell into the category because they didn’t seem to care much about academics; after all, they owned the school.
Tricia and Alexa’s names came last, barely escaping failure. They looked pale, their pride crushed.
"Look who failed now," Becca squealed, making sure that Allison and her little minions heard her.
When Luna Lyra finished, the air was thick with emotions: relief, shock, joy, and bitterness, all swirling together.
