Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Discussion

Fiona Rhodes’s two brothers both got the hint, one went to hug Fiona and the other made polite conversation with Zayne Sinclair before seeing him out.

Zayne knew his words had already taken effect, so there was no need to stay and lose face; he took the opportunity to leave.

Mr. Rhodes stared coldly at Fiona, whose eyes reddened as she hid behind her second brother.

"Didn’t you say Julian Sinclair was under your firm control?" Mr. Rhodes slapped the table, exuding authority without anger.

"Dad, I’m telling the truth..." Fiona stubbornly defended herself.

"Alright then, the wedding will go ahead as scheduled, no earlier!"

"No way! Dad! I beg you, please negotiate with the Sinclair family, regardless of what Zayne might be plotting, we mustn’t ignore it!" Fiona panicked. She simply couldn’t accept what Zayne had said. If Julian indeed planned to break off the engagement after gaining power, she’d become a laughingstock!

Unable to resist her, Mr. Rhodes sighed helplessly, "What makes that girl he adopted better than you?"

Fiona hesitated, not knowing what made Moira Young better either...

"Perhaps... maybe it’s because she’s with Julian all the time..."

Her second brother suddenly asked, "Have those two slept together?"

"No!" Fiona replied firmly, certain they hadn’t been intimate; otherwise, Moira wouldn’t have idly watched her stay at the Sinclair residence.

"How much do you truly understand Julian Sinclair?" Her second brother began to worry as well.

Fiona’s breathing quickened, clueless on how to respond.

"You all know his personality has been inscrutable since childhood. Forget about me; look at The Sinclair Group folks, is anyone able to understand him?" Her eldest brother stepped in to defend Fiona.

Mr. Rhodes glared at him, "The focus now is finding a way to ensure your useless sister becomes the mistress of The Sinclair Group. Stop asking pointless questions!"

Both brothers looked helplessly at Fiona, "It’s up to you now. Is what Zayne said true or not?"

Fiona didn’t have the face to admit it, but it involved her future status and the Rhodes family’s standing, so after much thought, she ultimately admitted it.

Mr. Rhodes was so angry that he left without saying a word, slamming the table and exiting without eating.

Fiona had rarely seen her father this angry, proving he was serious this time.

"Brother, where’s dad going..." Fiona asked like a child who did something wrong, unsure of her next steps without her brothers by her side.

"Where else? He’s going to the Sinclair family, of course."

——

At the Sinclair residence.

Given the familial ties between the Rhodes and Sinclair families, several elders made time to meet Mr. Rhodes when he visited.

A few middle-aged men of similar ages enjoyed a few drinks together.

"The children’s wedding date is set, which surely puts our minds at ease," Julian’s father began, given he’s the in-law.

"Not necessarily, Little Seven’s nature has always been unpredictable, as you must know," Mr. Rhodes drank a glass of wine before continuing, "I heard—"

"Heard that Little Seven plans to call off the engagement after seizing power; have any of you heard this?"

The Sinclair elders exchanged glances, "How is that possible?"

"You entrust The Sinclair Group’s power to Little Seven partly because he overthrew Arthur Whitman, and also because of the engagement with my family. But hearing this news chills the heart!" Mr. Rhodes sighed, feigning acceptance.

"I absolutely won’t allow Little Seven to do such a thing." Julian’s father spoke with a stern face.

"Dear in-law, I know the relationship you have with Little Seven. You needn’t placate me with these words."

"Then what do you propose—?"

"I suggest not letting Little Seven inherit The Sinclair Group until after his marriage to Fiona." Mr. Rhodes held his glass, setting a trap.

"That’s not possible. The decision for Little Seven to inherit has been underway and will conclude in less than a month. It can’t be delayed," the elders disagreed.

"Then move their wedding up to just half a month later," Mr. Rhodes calmly proposed, seemingly suggesting but clearly decided.

The room fell quiet; changing the wedding date wasn’t trivial, as it had already been announced, and altering it would cause speculation.

But the union between the Sinclair and Rhodes families had to happen.

The Sinclair elders remained silent, subtly leaving the decision to Julian’s father.

"Fine." Julian’s father hesitated long before reluctantly agreeing, "I’ll inform him."

Mr. Rhodes nodded with satisfaction, smiling, "The union between the Sinclair and Rhodes families is meant to be; the sooner, the better."

After the meal, Julian’s father saw the guests off and headed to his study.

He stood silently at the window for a long time before finally gathering the courage to call Julian.

Due to the time difference, it should be around six in the morning in China.

After some time, Julian answered, his voice hoarse, "What is it?"

Julian’s father hesitated, "The Rhodes family suggested, the wedding be moved up to half a month later."

Julian fell silent at the other end, eventually coldly muttering two words, "No way."

"Beep—beep—" The call ended abruptly.

Julian’s father looked helplessly at the phone in his hand, sighing and shaking his head. Mrs. Sinclair entered with a cup of tea, asking, "Had a fight?"

"If only we could actually argue, I would be content." He knew Julian resented him, not hoping for forgiveness, just wishing for a few more words between them.

"He’ll understand your love for him sooner or later," Mrs. Sinclair comforted.

"The kid’s grown, you can’t force it."

Feeling tired, Julian’s father retired to rest with Mrs. Sinclair’s support, knowing his health had been poor in recent years.

At the Rhodes residence.

Mr. Rhodes was barely home when Fiona and her brothers rushed to him with eager eyes, "Dad! How did it go?"

"Is there anything your father can’t accomplish?" Mr. Rhodes was equally surprised at how smoothly things had gone, in high spirits.

"Amazing! Dad! I love you!" Fiona immediately hugged him, "It’s so great to have a father like you!"

"Alright! But next time, if you keep secrets from me again, watch how I deal with you!" Mr. Rhodes feigned anger, glaring at Fiona.

Fiona was beside herself with excitement; she never imagined her wedding with Julian could be moved up, and so smoothly too!

Although unsure if Zayne genuinely just wanted Moira Young, as long as she married Julian, The Sinclair Group’s power would surely be his. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Fiona secretly texted Zayne: ’The wedding is moved up to half a month; Moira Young is yours.’

Zayne quickly replied, "Pleasure doing business."
