Sweet Wife So Charming: CEO: Hold Back Your Heart-Chapter 102: Annoyance
"People change." Mrs. Miller suddenly chimed in, handing Julian Sinclair a bowl of fish soup.
"Miss Fiona, would you like a bowl of fish soup too?"
Fiona Rhodes suddenly thought of something, her eyes hostilely trained on Moira Young, but her words were directed to Mrs. Miller, "Julian used to drink fish soup prepared by his mom when he was a child, so he grew up hating it. Moira Young doesn’t know this, but surely you do, right?"
Mrs. Miller’s motion of serving the fish soup froze; she knew this all too well...
Moira Young stopped breathing upon hearing this, completely caught off guard by the revelation. It’s been nine years, and she often had Mrs. Miller prepare fish soup for her, drinking it repeatedly for days in a row.
Julian Sinclair naturally drank it with her too...
Moira Young’s elegant brows furrowed slightly, feeling a pang of guilt, as she fiddled with the spoon handle.
"Indeed, people do change." Julian Sinclair didn’t even lift his eyes, taking a few sips of the fish soup Mrs. Miller just served him, as if Fiona Rhodes’ comment was of no concern to him.
Fiona Rhodes was sure this was all related to Moira Young. Mrs. Miller had watched Julian grow up, and Julian brought her from Vesperia to China nine years ago; no one knew Julian’s tastes better than her. If it wasn’t for Moira Young’s fondness for these dishes, Mrs. Miller wouldn’t have prepared them.
"You changed because of someone, right?" Fiona Rhodes couldn’t suppress her anger. Raised in indulgence, her brothers doting on her, she couldn’t tolerate any nuisance. If not for fearing Julian Sinclair might call off the engagement, she’d have found a way to make Moira Young disappear.
Moira Young naturally understood Fiona Rhodes’ implication, feigning ignorance as she kept eating quietly.
She was indeed quite afraid of Fiona Rhodes, finding her personality overly domineering, to the extent she seemed capable of committing murder without batting an eye.
Thea Thorne’s personality was very similar to hers.
Moira Young was very uncomfortable with it.
Julian Sinclair’s refined features stiffened slightly; he then looked at Fiona Rhodes with mild indifference, "If you don’t like the food, I’ll have someone send you what you do like." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"You know, I’m not very fond of Chinese food." Fiona Rhodes initially thought Julian Sinclair was concerned for her; it took her a few seconds to realize he was subtly suggesting she leave.
"I’m staying here tonight." Fiona Rhodes declared firmly, making sure Moira Young could hear.
Julian Sinclair showed a fleeting trace of impatience, "I’ll take you after dinner."
Fiona Rhodes clung to Julian Sinclair’s arm, softening her tone slightly, with a bit of playful cajoling, "We’ve stayed together before; I just want to be here tonight, won’t you agree?"
"Clatter—" the sound of chopsticks falling to the ground.
Moira Young’s hand numbed, instantly bending over to pick them up, only to see Fiona Rhodes’ legs tightly pressed against Julian Sinclair’s beneath the table, her large eyes suddenly brimming with mist.
Mrs. Miller hurriedly replaced the fallen chopsticks for Moira Young.
But Moira Young had lost all appetite for the meal.
She suddenly recalled two years ago witnessing Sylvia Lopez entwined with Julian Sinclair, and now hearing Fiona Rhodes implying they too had shared intimacy. Moira Young always believed Julian Sinclair wasn’t someone who bedded multiple women, but now it seemed he was not much different from Adrian Grant.
In a fit of rage, Moira Young decided she wouldn’t eat, turning to leave upstairs without saying a word.
Once in the bedroom, she slammed the door shut, lay still on the bed, recalling what Julian Sinclair did to her last night, her face instantly flushing, but the more she thought, the angrier she became.
She felt strongly because Julian Sinclair had done the same things to other women before, and this truly bothered her.
As it was nearing eight o’clock and Julian Sinclair hadn’t come to knock on her door, Moira Young grew restless, unable to sit nor stand, constantly worrying Fiona Rhodes might really stay.
"Ding ding—" a text message popped up, she picked it up casually to see it was from an unknown number.
"Moira Young, this is Heath Sterling’s mother. I’d like to meet you at eight-thirty at Starlight Cafe." The brief message made Moira Young instantly feel pressured.
Thea Thorne’s words today turned out to be true; she had informed Heath’s mom of Moira Young’s move to Heath’s house, and now Heath’s mom was reaching out to her.
Moira Young felt uneasy, wondering if Heath was okay now.
She promptly called Heath Sterling, only to find no answer.
The more she couldn’t reach him, the more anxious and fearful she became. She vividly remembered Heath’s mom berating her in the hospital back then, causing lingering fear, unsure whether to go or not.
Moira Young clutched her phone tightly, her second instinct was to call Carter Porter, hoping they might be together.
Unexpectedly, Carter Porter didn’t answer either.
Moira Young checked the time, it was now eight-five. While she strongly resisted it, she could choose not to meet Heath’s mom, but worried Heath might get hurt because of it; after careful consideration, she decided to go explain.
She changed into a new outfit, grabbed a bag, quietly opened the door, first listening for any conversation downstairs, but heard nothing.
Moira Young pouted, wondering where Julian Sinclair had gone.
No matter, she went downstairs, planning to take a cab to Starlight Cafe, but upon stepping out, she saw Julian Sinclair’s car still parked there. She turned and raised her head, gazing towards Julian Sinclair’s bedroom.
The curtains were drawn, the lights on.
Moira Young’s heart tightened, painfully to the point she couldn’t breathe; given Julian didn’t come to console her, it meant Fiona Rhodes hadn’t left. The fact the bedroom lights were on indicated they were both in the room.
Moira Young furiously patted her head, warning herself not to think about what the two might be doing.
She ran outside frantically, tears swirling in her eyes, the more she wanted to cry, the more she fought against it.
Moira Young ran to the main road; it was a rural area, so there were no taxis, forcing her to keep running, hoping to reach a place with cars.
Only after she ran herself into a sweaty state did she spot a taxi.
"Where to?" The driver seemed ready to head home, "If it’s on the way, I’ll drop you off."
"Starlight Cafe."
"Which Starlight Cafe? The first location or the second?"
This question left Moira Young stunned; Heath’s mom hadn’t specified a location...
She didn’t dare to call and ask, so she inquired the driver, "Sir, are the first and second locations far apart?"
"Not too far, I’m headed towards the first location. If you’re going there, I’ll take you."
Moira Young hesitated, but had no better option, deciding to try the first location first, and if it wasn’t the right one, she’d rush to the second one.
She downright refused to call Heath’s mom to inquire.
At this moment, Heath Sterling returned her call.
"Heath, are you okay?" Moira Young immediately asked about his situation, worried it was because of her.
"Why ask that?" Heath Sterling’s background was noisy, sounding like he was in a bar.
Hearing his response, Moira Young inferred Heath probably wasn’t aware of what was happening, and realized Heath’s mom had directly contacted her.
"As long as you’re okay, I’ll hang up for now." Moira Young was about to disconnect.
On the other end, the bar was too noisy, Heath Sterling didn’t clearly hear what Moira Young said, noticing the call abruptly ended, vaguely sensing something was off, pondering why Moira asked him that out of the blue.
Carter Porter draped his arm over Heath Sterling’s shoulder, "What’s up! Keep drinking!"
Heath Sterling impatiently pushed him away, "I’ve got something to do, leaving now."
