Supreme Summoner Overlord: Rise of the Endless Legion-Chapter 428: The Convoy
Two more days passed.
Reidar remained in the forest, checking the roads and waiting for the convoy to appear. His Sky-Hunters covered every road to Sweetwater, setting up a surveillance net so big and dense that nothing larger than a mosquito could pass through undetected.
Then the convoy appeared.
A convoy of twelve carts approached the gates of Sweetwater from the northwest, each one loaded with crates and barrels. Summoned beasts pulled the vehicles, while a contingent of church guards walked alongside them as escorts.
Reidar observed through his Sky-Hunter's eyes.
The convoy was larger than he had expected. The carts were pulled by summoned beasts—horse-like creatures with dark coats and glowing eyes—and the escorts numbered at least forty church members. Most of them were in the level 280-320 range, with a few stronger individuals near the front.
<They're here.>
Reidar moved his attention to the gate, where the guards were checking the convoy. The church members talked with the gate guards for a short while, and then the convoy was allowed through.
Inside the town, the carts moved toward the eastern district, only for them to get out of the western gate and go back to the forest.
At some point, they reached a clearing and started waiting. Reidar didn't know what was going on, but it soon became clear when a house started appearing from nothing.
<Illusion magic. That's why I found nothing here before. They've been hiding this entire place right under my nose.>
In truth, Reidar had been to this clearing many times, but he found nothing. Illusion magic was insidious like that—it didn't just hide things visually but warped perception itself, making the mind glide over what should have been obvious.
Even someone searching could walk right through an illusion dozens of times and never notice anything amiss; their attention got naturally redirected elsewhere without them ever realizing it. It wasn't just a matter of not seeing.
The cargo was unloaded at a large warehouse, which was also the main building there, but there were more. Smaller structures dotted the clearing—living quarters, storage sheds, and what looked like a guardhouse near the perimeter.
The entire place was larger than Reidar had anticipated, suggesting this wasn't just a simple supply depot but a well-established logistics hub. A secondary outpost within the main one, Sweetwater.
Church members carried the crates inside, while the escorts left to various locations around the rather large outpost. Some headed toward the guardhouse, others split off to patrol the perimeter, and a few entered what appeared to be barracks near the eastern edge of the clearing.
Reidar focused on the warehouse. The Sky-Hunters couldn't get close enough to see what was inside the crates, but based on the weight and the way the church members handled them, they had something heavy.
Reidar needed to know what was in those crates, where they were going next, and how frequently these shipments arrived, among the many things.
<But first.>
He needed to know better how the situation around these parts was. How many guards were here? What were their levels? What kind of defenses did they have in place? And most importantly, what routes did they use to transport the cargo out from this hidden outpost?
The last one was particularly important, considering that at some point Reidar had to find where the place was and destroy it, of course.
As for the people here, Reidar could kill everyone without that much of a thought, but if he did, he would have no way of knowing the situation.
He needed intelligence first—cargo manifests, delivery schedules, and communication routes. Only then could he decide whether to dismantle their operation or follow the trail deeper into the church's network. Or both.
He expanded his surveillance, sending more Sky-Hunters to cover the various parts of the outpost and the surrounding area. He also assigned a group to follow each of the escorts who had dispersed there, with instructions to track their movements, identify key personnel, and map out patrol routes and shift changes.
<Let's see how the situation is. >
Then he checked his status.
