Chapter 1959: Chapter 2022: A Major Case

After dealing with a few who were dissatisfied, Li Yifei initially thought he could intimidate these people, but unexpectedly, a few of them, instead of being scared, insisted on fighting him.

Looking at a few of them, either pale-faced or with a sickly red flush, Li Yifei quickly thought of something...

Just as he was about to teach these people a lesson and completely subdue them, police cars arrived. Two police cars were the first to show up, driven by the on-duty officers from the nearby police station. They had already received Ning Changzheng’s orders and knew that Li Yifei was not to be provoked. When they arrived and saw the scene, they were momentarily at a loss.

The squatters, seeing the police arrive, hurriedly shouted, "Officer, it’s him. Not only did he smash cars, but he also beat our people!"

"Shut up!" The police seemed impatient with these mostly twenty-something road racers, although they knew these kids also had family backgrounds, it was nothing compared to Li Yifei’s connections.

However powerful they are, they’re nothing compared to Li Yifei, thought the police, even feeling some sympathy for these young people. Because if they simply admitted their mistake, it would be fine, but if they continued to make trouble, they’d be bringing disaster to their families.

Haven’t there been plenty of such examples in Mile City over the years? Those who provoked Li Yifei—none of them met a good end. One officer knew some of them personally and was aware of issues concerning several families in the provincial capital, all of which were bloody lessons from crossing Li Yifei.

With only six police officers arriving, they were clearly outnumbered, so they had to wait for backup. Li Yifei didn’t communicate with them, just nodded from a distance.

Ning Changzheng quickly arrived as well. With fewer cars on the road at night, Ning Changzheng’s car sped there with sirens blaring and finally reached the scene. When he arrived, he was also taken aback. He didn’t expect there to be so many racers, with over ten sports cars, all expensive and luxurious.

Slightly twitching the corner of his mouth, Ning Changzheng thought, here’s another tricky problem. These kids’ families are probably not simple.

But no matter how tricky, Ning Changzheng had to take it on, because the other party was Li Yifei.

With this thought, Ning Changzheng walked toward Li Yifei.

Upon seeing Ning Changzheng, Li Yifei’s expression softened slightly, and he proactively extended his hand, saying, "Sorry to have bothered you coming out so late, Director Ning."

"No trouble at all." Ning Changzheng shook his head, and after letting go, asked, "Yifei, what exactly happened? I felt it must be more than just racing that angered you like this."

Li Yifei glanced at the Accord and said, "I went to a friend’s house for dinner with my wife. Since I drank, she drove back. These brats raced and scared her. The car hit the guardrail, and she got slightly injured."

Following Li Yifei’s gaze, Ning Changzheng indeed saw an ordinary white Accord crashed against the guardrail. He didn’t have time to wonder why someone wealthy would drive such a standard car. Even though the Accord is not cheap—over 200,000 yuan—but for Li Yifei, it might as well be nothing. Ning Changzheng saw the window of the Accord driver’s seat roll down slightly, revealing a woman sitting inside. Initially wondering which one of Li Yifei’s many wives it could be, as it wasn’t a secret in certain circles.

As he pondered, for a second, his body trembled upon seeing who the woman was, as she nodded at him. Ning Changzheng nearly walked over, but Li Yifei shook his head, and the window slowly rolled up, clearly indicating Li Yifei didn’t want Ye Yunzhu to be exposed.

Ning Changzheng took a deep breath. The injured was Deputy Mayor Ye. Rank-wise, they were equals, but power-wise, Ning Changzheng wielded even more. But with the Li family’s influence, Ye Yunzhu was not just some fringe deputy mayor; she was a deputy with real power. Even the Party Secretary and Mayor were courteous to her. Yet Ye Yunzhu was usually low-key, respectful to all colleagues, rarely causing trouble, and even when she did lose her temper, it was often because someone messed things up significantly.

Realizing this, Ning Changzheng grew somewhat angry, turning back and glaring at the group of racers now under police control, thinking, you brats, why race here in Mile City and scare the deputy mayor and the God of War...

"Yifei, leave this to me. You and Ye... your wife, go back," Ning Changzheng finally said. Li Yifei smiled and replied, "Sorry for troubling you, Director Ning. This situation is serious. It was me this time, but what about next? These kids drove over 200, and when I stood in the middle of the road, they didn’t dodge or swerve, just drove right into me. I think it’s not just mere racing!"

"What, these kids..." Ning Changzheng almost wanted to kick someone. He had recognized a young person there earlier, a leader’s child from Mile City, only seventeen, a boy with long, fluffy hair. Ning Changzheng had seen him months earlier, leaving a deep impression. He intended to clear some away quietly and have Li Yifei leave first, but seeing Li Yifei’s attitude, it was clear he wanted to stay and observe the handling.

"I have one sentence: find out the reason, punish those who need punishing, most of them have been drinking!" Li Yifei said plainly.

Ning Changzheng barely nodded when a policeman came over, saluted Ning Changzheng, and reported, "Director Ning, we found a lot of contraband in several of the sports cars. These amounts are quite significant and serious."

Boom! Ning Changzheng’s heart skipped, and he quickly looked up, asking the subordinate, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, Director Ning, quite significant. If judged by this, these people are in serious trouble," the officer replied truthfully.

Damn it, Ning Changzheng quickly turned towards the racers, damn it, are you racing or dealing with contraband!

It’s over now; things just got a lot more complicated. Once stable, Ning Changzheng immediately ordered, "Confiscate all communication devices; no one is to leave. Bring them all back to the bureau. Also, have the SWAT Team stand by, and notify the Drug Control Brigade to head to the City Bureau for an overnight investigation!"

After speaking, Ning Changzheng glanced at Li Yifei, seeing him nodding. He took another deep breath and stated, "No one sleeps tonight; this might be a major case."

"Yes!" The officer was also excited. Mile City’s security has improved greatly in recent years, especially due to the Underworld keeping a low profile, as the Li family is a huge deterrent, along with Ning City’s leadership genuinely aiming to improve city safety. It would be an exaggeration to say the streets are perfectly safe, but it is indeed much better than neighboring cities.

The police don’t want major cases; they hope the public is safe, which makes their job easier. But without big cases, many couldn’t achieve meritorious deeds relating to promotion. Even small matters like rank, remuneration, and benefits are tied with this. They thought tonight was just rounding up a few racers, venting for Li Yifei. Who would have thought by casually checking, they found contraband in those sports cars?

Ning Changzheng felt mixed emotions. This was indeed a big case...but these were all luxury sports cars; none of them ordinary people. A big case meant offending significant figures.

Upon hearing about so much contraband, Li Yifei’s eyes grew cold, and he told Ning Changzheng directly, "Director Ning, consider this my report. You just handle it!"

This statement meant to let Ning Changzheng bear the matter so he wouldn’t cave under pressure. Li Yifei was firmly backing him, making Ning Changzheng’s work easier. Grateful, he said, "Yifei, leave this to me. Good thing you discovered it. Otherwise, letting this contraband spread could harm countless people!"

After speaking, Ning Changzheng added a thought to himself: thankfully it was you who found it. Had it been someone else, things would’ve been much tougher to handle.

Li Yifei nodded, saying, "Keep me informed if there’s any issue. I’ll get my wife home first!"

"Alright, no problem!" Ning Changzheng nodded while watching Li Yifei head towards the Accord, moving to the driver’s seat. Ning Changzheng sighed internally, looking again at the road racers, even with a hint of sympathy!

With a wave of his hand, Ning Changzheng commanded the backup officers, "Take everyone in, don’t let anyone leave to prevent them from coordinating stories, and no phone calls."

Sitting in his car, Ning Changzheng thought for a moment and reported the incident to the Party Secretary. Qin Yuanjiang, upon hearing it, felt his mind buzzing. Initially about to rest, this news kept him awake. Years of political experience told him, this was definitely no small matter.

Damn it, Li Yifei, you stay out of things until you’re involved, then it’s always a big deal. Qin Yuanjiang pondered for a while, responding, "Proceed with the investigation according to standard procedure. Identify the principals, accomplices, and innocents, and immediately ascertain their identities..."

"Yes, Secretary, you rest first; I’ll report to you in the morning."

"Okay, thank you!"

"No problem, just doing my duty!" Ning Changzheng finished speaking, and once the call ended, he spaced out a bit. What did the Secretary mean by this? To hold things under control? But these racers aren’t just ordinary folks; could pluck a big fish anytime. Not to mention, solely the leader’s aforementioned son, even with little status among them, wasn’t a small fry. If investigation reveals this minor indulged in contraband and other misdemeanors, wouldn’t you say this was a significant case?

Of course, thinking about it now is futile; Ning Changzheng looked at the dark night outside, realizing Li Yifei was truly a trouble magnet, wondering why anyone would want to provoke him!
