28: Talisman Making

Although Peter Brown had thought about the talisman-making process many times, he still felt it difficult to start when it came to actually making one.
Talisman-making was not like writing with a pen, as he had imagined.
Making talismans on jade was entirely different, requiring a special type of brush called a talisman brush.
This was not an ordinary pen, but one that could channel True Qi for writing.
This type of pen didn’t require any ink.
Instead, True Qi was infused into the pen and then inscribed onto the jade with the tip of the pen.
The difficulty of this process was beyond description.
When Peter truly started talisman-making, he faced several important challenges.
The first issue was the writing itself since a special divine script was needed.
This divine script had a unique characteristic – it had to be completed in one stroke without any interruption, otherwise it would be ruined.
This challenge initially stumped Peter.
Although he could write simplified characters, using the divine script meant he had to relearn and practice writing.
The second challenge was that he had to complete writing a character with a continuous flow of True Qi.
Peter’s cultivation was only at the Qi Refining First Layer, so this was also a challenge for him.
Another problem was the hardness of the jade material, which added difficulty to the inscription process.
Additionally, different jade materials would cause unavoidable pauses during the writing process.
After realizing these issues, Peter did not hastily start inscribing on the jade.
Instead, he found some blank paper and a brush pen and practiced writing the divine script he needed for his current project.
In fact, for the Spiritual Gathering Array, only six Divine script characters were needed – Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, as well as the character for Gathering.
To ensure that he could smoothly write these six characters, Peter devoted several days to practicing them without leaving his room.
As days went by, Peter eventually mastered writing the divine scripts.
However, even then, it was not enough.
Peter had to write these divine scripts fluidly without any hesitation.
“Pete, what are you writing?”
Just as Peter was fully focused on practicing his writing, his little sister Kate, ignoring their father’s warning, sneaked into Peter’s room while Raven Brown was out.
Upon seeing Peter practicing writing, she couldn’t help but ask.
“I’m just practicing writing.”
“Practicing so secretly?
Let me see what you’re writing.”
With that, Kate picked up a discarded paper and began to read.
After looking for a while, Kate became even more puzzled.
“What are these characters?
They look like the talismans drawn by Daoist priests.”
Peter smiled and said, “If you think they’re talismans, then they’re talismans.”
Then, Peter continued practicing.
“You brat, I told you not to come in here.
Get out and don’t disturb your brother’s work!”
At this moment, Raven had returned and rushed into the room upon hearing Kate’s voice.
“Dad, you’re biased!
I was just looking; it’s not like I will learn anything just by watching!”
Kate pouted her lips.
“Kate, you’ve seen how our lives have changed.
You understand how we turned our lives around.
Your college education and all the changes that have happened in our lives are thanks to Peter.
People need to be grateful and content.
It’s normal for Peter to have some secrets that he can’t reveal to us.
We can’t ask about them, and you shouldn’t either.
You know why?
Because the changes in our house have already brought us great advantages.
Asking more and snooping around would be too much.
For us, we only need to know one thing – the more capable Peter is, the better our lives will be.”
Upon hearing her father’s words, Kate hesitated for a moment before turning to Peter.
“Pete, I won’t sneak around anymore.”
Peter smiled and said, “It’s not as serious as you think.
There are just some things I haven’t figured out yet, so even if I wanted to teach you, I couldn’t.
Once I understand everything, I’ll have no problem teaching you.”
Raven looked at Peter and said, “Peter, no matter where you learned this knowledge, remember one thing: knowledge is hard-earned.
If the people who taught you didn’t instruct you to pass it on, you shouldn’t do so recklessly!”
After finishing his speech, Raven and Kate left the room together.
So his father had so many thoughts!
Peter shook his head and continued practicing writing.
After another day, Peter had completely mastered the six divine script characters and had no issues writing them fluidly.
Great!
Knowing that he had solved the writing problem, Peter took out a custom-made jade pen, which wasn’t a talisman brush yet.
He then took out a fine carving knife and carefully inscribed a Gathering Spirit Array Technique and a Power Enhancing Formation inside the hollow jade pen.
This task wasn’t too difficult, as long as he had sufficient True Qi to complete it.
However, Peter’s True Qi was still weak, so his Talisman pen was not very durable.
Peter had already thought about making better Talisman pens when his cultivation level was higher.
For now, this one would do.
After finishing the talisman pen, Peter tested it and found it easy to use, confirming its success.
Now that he had mastered divine scripts and made the talisman pen, Peter knew it was time to inscribe the jade talismans.
He took out the jade pieces he had bought earlier and adjusted his breath, preparing to create the Array Eye Jade Tablet for the Spiritual Gathering Array.
Channeling True Qi towards the talisman pen, Peter instantly felt that about a tenth of his True Qi had been drawn out.
Without hesitation, Peter lifted the pen and wrote quickly on the jade tablet.
Boom!
After a loud noise, Peter saw that a large amount of spiritual energy had surged towards the jade tablet from all directions in the sky before being infused into it.
Subsequently, the jade tablet began to glow with radiance.
It was a success!
