Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 88: Results of Bargaining
His beautiful hand stopped midair as he shot me a glare that felt like it could kill. I wanted to burst out laughing but the sound of one of the bodyguards standing at the side of the room letting out a chuckle beat me to it. Bradon’s face visibly darkened along with his mood before he narrowed his eyes at me. The quite disturbed and astonished look on his face made me bite down on my lower lip as I smirked at him mischievously.
“Don’t call me that,” he hissed through clenched teeth.
“But I called you by your name earlier but you didn’t respond...so...” I replied like it wasn’t my fault.
What’s the worst that can happen?
Since I’m supposed to be Diana and also his newly wedded wife, he can’t possibly kill me. For the sake of our families and the economy of this country, I am very much needed alive and well.
“What do you want?” he asked coldly.
I stared at him for a few seconds in silence before letting out a sigh. Wasn’t he supposed to tell me what he wanted from me instead of the other way around?
“Since we’re married and all that, don’t you think that it’s strange that I don’t even have your phone number,” I pointed out.
“No...” he replied without even giving it a thought.
I knew that I should resist the urge but his attitude, his words, and just everything else about him made it unbearable. After letting out a sigh, I decided to let everything go and just rolled my eyes to the ceiling.
Just who or what am I dealing with here?
“I think I’m really troubling Jenna with borrowing her phone all the time to call you. Maybe you should just give me your phone number? I mean, I don’t really want to resort to stealing it from Jenna’s phone, you know...” I said before forcing a smile.
“Why would you need to call me?” he asked as his gaze returned to the document that he had been reading.
“Who knows? Something urgent might come up. I promise that I won’t call you unless there’s something absolutely urgent. How about that?” I tried my best to negotiate.
I couldn’t believe that I was having trouble getting a man’s phone number. Something as ridiculous as this has never happened before in my life. I might not be Diana but I’m still her twin sister. With the face and body that I have along with my last name, there were countless guys that were more than willing to fight to capture my interest. At the same time, I couldn’t get my husband’s mobile number.
“Fine...” he said as he slid his phone over to me over the table.
After inputting my phone into his contacts and using his phone to call mine, I finally managed to get a hold of his phone number. I had no idea why he suddenly had a change of heart, but I was satisfied enough with the outcome without having to question his intentions.
“So...you don’t have to go to work today?” I asked as I slowly slid the phone over the coffee table back to his side.
Now that I thought about it, I had no idea what kind of work Bradon did exactly. I could imagine him swinging a whip around above his head before slapping it down to whip his minions like slaves. I shook my head from side to side slightly to clear that scene away from my mind. Even I knew that it was unrealistic for him to do something like that no matter how barbaric he could be. If I had to guess, then he probably ran some of the shady businesses that the Vulkan family undoubtedly owns.
“Why are you asking?” he asked as he placed down the document onto the table and looked directly at me.
“Well, you’re still here. You know, usually you’re like out of the house even before I open my eyes in the morning. If you’re free today then, why don’t we go out?” I suggested before showing him a smile that hopefully signaled peace.
“You will stay here until there’s a need for you to go out,” he replied flatly.
And...when will that be exactly?
“What does that even mean? When will that be?” I asked as I tried to keep my tone light.
Although I found it extra challenging to control my temper when I was with him, I tried my best to keep smiling. If nothing else, I have already learnt that getting into an argument with Bradon never led me anywhere useful.
“They’ll be events where we have to appear as a couple. You’ll go out for those as Diana,” he informed me casually.
“What? That’s it? No way...” I exclaimed in pure disappointment.
“Use your brain, Dahlia. You’re not supposed to be here in this country. You’re supposed to be Diana right now, so how can you randomly walk about as Dahlia?” he challenged as his eyes widened at me.
“I’ve walked around as Dahlia before. I even checked into a hotel using my name. It didn’t lead to any problems,” I argued before letting out a sigh.
“And who do you think had to clean up and erase all the trails that you carelessly left behind?” he asked before scoffing at me.
He did?
“Oh...” I mumbled when I realized what must have happened.
It didn’t occur to me that it might cause a huge problem if people found out that I was in the country. If people found out that I was back in the country, would they suspect that I might have taken my sister’s place at her wedding. The idea seemed very farfetched, and I doubted that anyone would think that far. However, I could understand why our families would take that extra step to ensure that there was absolutely no risk of something like that happening.
“Basically, you want to go outside, is that right?” he asked.
“Isn’t that what I’ve been saying all along?” I replied while pouting a little.
