Chapter 355: The Next Best Thing

Diana did not look impressed at my lack of reaction to her teasing words. Although, I did realize that if I hadn’t called her out on her act, we would probably be doing it right now. Any fool who couldn’t tell the two sisters apart would have surely fallen into her trap.

"You know, I really hate you," she confessed before smiling sweetly at me.

"Then get off of me already," I said, with the warning edge in my voice.

"Not yet. We need to talk," she said as she pressed her hands on top of my shoulders as if they would help keep me in place.

I had no idea why she needed to be sitting on top of me for us to have a decent conversation. Diana’s mind seemed to be racing as her eyes started to dart to the side, and I couldn’t help but wonder what she was trying so desperately hard to figure out.

"This is going to sound quite crazy. I hate you, but for some reason, I feel like I can trust you now. Maybe it’s because you can tell that I’m not Dahlia," she said before she hesitated.

My patience was running thin, and I couldn’t help but worry about Dahlia. Since the woman waiting for me inside the hospital room was Diana and not Dahlia, that meant that I haven’t seen Dahlia since the moment that I entered the hospital. She must have gone somewhere, and that made me uncomfortable. If Diana was here taking Dahlia’s place, then it wouldn’t be a wild stretch of imagination for Dahlia to be playing the part of her sister right about now.

"I don’t care if it sounds crazy. Just spit it out because I don’t have much time or patience left for you," I said coldly.

"I need your help," she stated as she stared deeply into my eyes, and I could tell that she was dead serious. Diana was no longer playing around, and she had already completely dropped her act.

"What do you need help with?" I asked although I wasn’t at all curious. At that point, I felt very tempted to agree to help her with whatever she asks for, as long as it was within my capabilities, simply because I couldn’t wait to go and find Dahlia. Dahlia wasn’t the only one who was looking forward to her discharge from the hospital and returning back to the mansion; I also looked forward to the day that I could bring her home with me.

"I can’t tell you yet," Diana replied while looking very confused, as if she was still debating with herself about what she wanted to do.

"You’re not making sense. Get off of me if you’re just going to waste my time. I need to go find Dahlia," I told her impatiently.

"Not yet. I need you to help me with something first," she said stubbornly without making a move to climb off of me.

"Then just tell me what you want me to help you with," I demanded to know.

Diana shifted her weight slightly on my lap as if she was looking for a comfortable position, before she wrapped her arms around my neck and brought her face right in front of mine. I could see her gaze drop to my lips, and I had a very good idea about what she had in mind.

"I don’t want to kiss you," I told her bluntly.

"But you might end up liking it," she said stubbornly.

"If this is what you have in mind, get off," I ordered.

"Do you want her to stay?" Diana asked softly.

Of course I knew what she was referring to. However, I couldn’t bring myself to reply to her right away because I didn’t know what she wanted. I wanted Dahlia to stay in this country more than anything even after all of these games are over. Better so, that when all of these games are over and we can all finally be ourselves, I wanted Dahlia to stay as herself and I wanted her to live a happy life. The life that she had always deserved.

"I want my sister to stay here. I don’t even know what she has planned, and frankly, I don’t care. I don’t give a damn about this country or anyone else. I just want my sister to live here with me and to be by my side, just like before, and just like always," Diana said, and I could see her becoming visibly emotional. Something told me that this wasn’t just part of her act and that she was displaying her vulnerable side all for the sake of conveying to me her honest and dearest wish. Perhaps it was because I loved Anthony that I didn’t doubt the love that the sisters shared for each other.

"Don’t you also want her to stay?" Diana asked in a small voice, as her eyes peered into mine as if she would find the answers that she was looking for in their depths.

I want Dahlia to stay. More than anything, I want her to stay with me.

Slowly, her graceful fingers approached the side of my face and soon I felt that slight coldness of her fingertips running along my cheek as she caressed it tenderly. She kept on staring deeply into my eyes but her gaze was unsteady, and I could tell that she was slightly nervous. Despite her nervousness, Diana didn’t seem hesitant about what she was about to do.

"You’re actually very handsome. Maybe even more attractive than Anthony," she said observantly. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"What are you trying to do? You’re not going to succeed in seducing me, and I believe you already know that," I asked.

"I need you to help me with a little experiment," she finally replied before her lips curved into a mischievous grin.

**Dahlia’s point of view**

I arrived in front of my hospital room just to find so many bodyguards gathered there. For a moment, I began worrying if my sister’s condition had taken a turn for the worse while I was gone.
