Chapter 346: Changing Feelings

Suddenly, I heard the familiar soft sound of the door being opened. Some light crept in through the crack of the door as my sister slowly opened it. I knew from the gentle way that she handled her entrance and the soft sound of her footsteps as she came inside that the person who had entered the room was none other than my own sister, and she was making a conscious effort not to wake me.

"You’re back," I said, trying to keep my tone light.

"You’re not asleep yet? It’s very late already," Diana said while sounding a little surprised.

"I was waiting for you to come back. How was the event?" I asked as I tried to sound innocent. I apologized to my sister silently that she had to handle the event alone, at least until Bradon turned up.

"Can I turn on the lights? Are you about to go to bed right now?" she asked.

"I’m not sleepy at all," I replied honestly. It felt like I was too emotionally drained to actually fall asleep for the night.

"Great," Diana said as she switched on the lights.

Bright light flooded the room, and I winced slightly as my eyes adjusted to the brightness. That was when I saw my sister’s face clearly, and I had to say that she had the most moody look on her face.

"Did something happen?" I asked softly as I cocked my head to the side while I continued staring curiously at my sister’s face.

"Did something happen? Of course, something did happen. That damn man didn’t even bother to turn up to the event! He ditched me, and I had to handle all the stupid guests on my own, along with their stupid questions and requests!" My sister yelled, and for a moment it looked like she was ready to rip out her hair given the level of her frustration.

Although I knew that I should be sympathizing with my sister, another emotion took precedence over and it was a real struggle to suppress my urge to smile.

"He didn’t turn up?" I asked, wondering why I felt so relieved and a little happy at the same time.

I honestly thought that Bradon had turned up to the event to join Diana after all that I had said to him earlier in the evening.

"Yes! He never turned up. At first, I thought he was just running late, but he never turned up at all. Because of that, I suffered so much, and I had to handle everything right up until the freaking last second of the event," Diana continued complaining loudly. Now that she knew that I was awake, Diana no longer bothered to keep her voice down. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"I guess something...important...must have come up," I said, but that was the only excuse that I could come up with to excuse Bradon’s behavior. It wasn’t like I could tell my sister honestly that Bradon came to see me and that he probably had no intention since the beginning to assist her at the event.

"I’m going to make sure that he regrets doing this to me! Who does he think he is?" Diana said before she threw her handbag down close to the sofa. My sister sank herself down onto the sofa and began scratching her arms, a sure sign that she was feeling extremely upset.

"I told you that that man is pure evil. He’s a monster! Do you see it now? I can’t believe he left me to deal with all those old and ugly politicians and news reporters all on my own!" Diana continued complaining passionately before scrunching her face into a very upset look. I had to say that it had been a while since I saw my sister this frustrated.

"Well, I guess if things didn’t turn out so well, that might save this country from having such a corrupted president in the near future," I said before grinning at my sister.

"I don’t care about the future! All I care about was the pain that I just went through dealing with all the guests invited to the event. The election might as well be tomorrow so that I don’t have to go through something like that again. If only Anthony was there..." Diana complained heatedly before trailing off. I watched in silence as she chewed on her lower lip before running her fingers through her long hair.

I didn’t think that Bradon would leave my sister to handle the event alone like that. Even after I told him to join Diana at the event, it seemed that Bradon had decided to do something else instead. Even though I had no idea where he went off to or why he chose to do something like that, I had to admit to myself that there was a part of me that felt slightly relieved at how things turned out. Perhaps once again, I ended up misunderstanding Bradon and his intentions.

The thought made me feel slightly guilty for what I said to him and also for all the words that I couldn’t bring myself to say to him. I was certain that if I had been more honest with him, things may have turned out differently, and perhaps there was a chance that I could learn what he truly wanted instead of facing his silence and lack of response. I made a mental note to myself that if I ever saw him again in private, I would do everything to have a proper conversation with him even though I couldn’t quite predict the outcome.

"Why are you looking so down? Did something happen while I was gone?" Diana asked. Her abrupt question caught me off guard, and when I snapped out of my thoughts, I found my sister staring intently at my face.

"No. Nothing happened. I mean, what could possibly happen? I’m just stuck here," I replied while stuttering a little.

"Is that so?" Diana asked as she kept on staring at my face. I quickly nodded my head without saying anything because I feared that Diana might catch on that I was hiding my earlier meeting with Bradon away from her.
