Chapter 300: Something Crazy

He’s so pissed off...

Bradon must have realized that Desmond wanted to talk to us and that was why he made me promise to return home with him. Although I fully intended to keep that promise, I also wanted to live up to the deal that I made with Desmond to support him and his plan.

Now that he was king, it was my turn to act out my part, and I needed to know the details of what he expected of me.

“Please?” I said pleadingly as I pulled on Bradon’s arm.

With a displeased look on his face, Bradon decided to sit back down next to me.

“We’re listening,” I turned to tell Desmond to urge him to explain his plan to us.

Apart from the fact that I had to be back in the country to act as his girlfriend, I was certain that there was a more meaningful reason behind Desmond’s urgency to return me to the country.

“As I was telling you before, I need your help to direct everyone’s attention away from me. Then I also thought that as the new king, I need a way for everyone to remember my ascension to the throne apart from the coronation ceremony and the related celebrations and that was when a great idea came to me,” Desmond said before pausing for effect.

“And that is?” I quickly urged him to go on.

“I thought that there is nothing that will grab their attention more than for the new king to bring back his ex-lover that was exiled by the previous king. Then when you come back they get another shock that we’re now back together, what do you think?” Desmond asked brightly after revealing his plan.

I was so stunned by the outrageousness of his idea that I was at a loss for words and my mouth hung open. After that, I began regretting taking Desmond’s side over Bradon. Perhaps it would have been better if I had followed Bradon out of the room and back to his mansion.

“If you’re going to have to come back anyways because you need to help me out, then wouldn’t it be better for us to make a big deal out of it? This is surely going to piss so many people off while at the same time surprising them, it’s exactly what we need to do,” Desmond said with a few firm nods of his head and it was clear that he was ultimately pleased with his own idea.

“He’s crazy...” Bradon muttered darkly before letting out a sigh as if he had been expecting to hear something this insane.

“Aha...” I murmured as I wondered if it was already too late for me to convince him to change his plan.

His mind seemed so made up to the point where he seemed so excited about executing the plan. Just thinking about the chaos that it would cause and all the inconvenient attention that would be directed at me already gave me a bad headache.

“Don’t you feel that we should be a little more subtle about reintroducing me back to society?” I asked while feeling like I was a wild animal about to be re-released back into its natural habitat.

“I don’t think so. I think we need to take advantage of the situation and leave an unforgettable impression. I will issue a royal order to pardon you and have you invited back to this country. Maybe I should even give you a proper title? Now that’s actually not a bad idea...” he suggested before rubbing his chin thoughtfully as if he was seriously considering it.

“Do you feel like heading back now?” Bradon asked sarcastically from close to my side.

“You do realize that this is required for you and I to get our work done behind the scenes, right?” Desmond asked Bradon pointedly.

“What are you two doing behind the scenes?” I asked when his words caught my attention and made me completely forget about my debut back into high society.

I stared at Desmond before glancing over at Bradon as I demanded silently for a very detailed explanation. Clearly these two men were leaving me out while I felt like I had the right to know because I was involved in this up to my neck or higher.

“You haven’t told her?” Desmond asked Bradon.

“What am I supposed to tell her?” Bradon asked like it wasn’t at all his problem to deal with.

“You never tell me anything!” I yelled loudly as my anger took over completely.

My sudden outburst wasn’t that surprising to myself given the fact that this wasn’t the first time that I had found out that Bradon was actively keeping things from me. After I had asked him more than once to let me know how he was involved in Desmond’s plan, he had refused to tell me anything. At first I told myself that it had nothing to do with me and that I was fine with not knowing about what he was up to; however, it didn’t take long for me to realize that I didn’t want to know simply out of curiosity. Although it took some time, I finally realized that the root of my anger came from the fact that Bradon didn’t seem to trust me at all.

“I told you before, didn’t I? I promised that I would find a way to bring you back. Honestly, I never forgot the promise that I made,” Desmond said to me and I could hear the sincerity in his voice.

It wasn’t like I had forgotten about the promise that he made to me on that day; however, I didn’t think that it would be possible for him to bring me back. At that time, I had already resigned myself to my fate. The fact that my parents were so willingly ready to give me up made me feel like that was no reason for me to keep on fighting for myself. I also told myself that starting a new life somewhere else might be exactly the thing that I needed and that my future just might be brighter on the other side of the fence.
