Chapter 115: I’m His Surprise

The strangest part was that I didn’t trust her but at the same time, I did trust her. I had a lot of faith in her stubbornness, her persistence, and her perseverance.

It would be interesting and entertaining to break her...

Perhaps I just wanted to see what kind of crazy moves she would execute next that I thought that it was the right decision to simply ignore all of her calls. Although I didn’t want to stay away from her, I had to admit that it was probably safer for her this way because I had no idea what I would do to her if I spent time with her. Seeing how her face lit up when she thought that she had finally gotten the chance to see my brother irritated me.

The way she spoke to him was different and it didn’t help that she had many things to criticize about our marriage even if some of them might be true. Dahlia did many things to incur my wrath; however, after spending a few days flipping various thoughts over inside my head while pretending to pay attention to Anthony’s meetings, I realized that it disappointed me that she couldn’t tell right away that I wasn’t Anthony and I hated that more than I could ever describe in words.

“It’s a surprise. There’s nothing to worry about.”

At first, I thought that I might have been thinking too much about her that I had somehow gone crazy to the point where I was hearing her voice when there was no way that she could be here.

“Please wait a moment, Lady Diana...” I heard the voice of Anthony’s secretary.

“I’m just here to see my husband. I won’t take long...” Dahlia replied smoothly.

I’m not imagining this.

Right at the same moment that I reached that conclusion, the door opened with a loud bang and then Dahlia marched through the entrance. A flustered-looking secretary quickly followed after her while apologizing profusely. I couldn’t make out any of the words that she was saying because my attention was completely absorbed by Dahlia. I had no idea how she ended up here and how Zain managed to lose her for the second time, but I had to admit that I found it slightly amusing. My lips curved into a smirk as I lifted my hand to wave away Anthony’s secretary.

“Why did you ignore my calls?” she asked as she marched right up to the work desk where I was seated.

“Is that what you’re here to ask me?” I replied with a question of my own.

“I called you so many times. Why didn’t you pick up my calls?” she repeated her questions as her eyes glared at me.

I could tell that she was angry, but I wasn’t sure if she truly understood why she was feeling that way. Women like her were a mystery and it wouldn’t surprise me if she herself didn’t quite understand why she was feeling so angry and frustrated.

“Why don’t you sit?” I suggested.

Dahlia didn’t hesitate in rolling her eyes at me before she flopped down onto the chair positioned on the opposite side of the table. I could tell that she was acting purely as herself because it was hard to imagine Diana doing something like that. Then again, I doubted that Diana in her right frame of mind would slam the door open like that. The fact that I had to hold in my laughter told me that I didn’t hate seeing her this way.

“Do you even know how many times I called you?” she asked accusingly.

“You said that you would only call me if there was an emergency,” I pointed out coldly.

“How do you know that it isn’t an emergency?” she challenged as she leaned over the table and narrowed her eyes at me.

“Just a gut feeling...” I replied calmly.

She rolled her eyes at me again before letting out a scoff that showed just how ridiculous she thought everything was. My gut also told me that she was here to ask me about Anthony again. There was no other reason why she would bother coming all the way here.

“I’m done with work. Should we go out for dinner?” I invited her casually.

“Where is Anthony?” she asked without beating around the bush.

“If this is what you want to talk about, I’ll get Zain to take you home,” I replied coldly.

“Why are you doing this to me? Do you think that I’m completely stupid, dumb, and blind?” she spat.

I wished that she would keep her voice down. It wasn’t like her words could hurt me, but it might be a real problem if someone heard her asking for Anthony when he was supposed to be sitting in the same room as her. I pressed my index finger against my lips to tell her to keep her voice down.

“Oh? Are you scared that everyone is going to find out now that you’re nothing but an imposter parading around as your younger brother?” she asked sarcastically.

“I’m not scared or anything but if people find out, I’m sure that Anthony, your sister, and your family has a lot more to lose than I do,” I replied levelly.

Her eyes narrowed like a leopard about to pounce on its prey. My mind immediately conjured up the scene of her suddenly climbing on top of the table and making her way to my side. Once again, it was challenging for me to stop myself from laughing. I would have liked it if she did something exactly like that.

“I called my father to ask about Anthony...” she said as she kept on eyes on my face.

“And?” I urged her to go on.

The fact that she was here meant that her old man had not told her anything and that was how it was supposed to be. I bet that after not learning anything new from her father, she had grown more desperate and impatient.

“He didn’t tell me exactly what I wanted to know but he told me enough for me to know that something happened. Tell me, Bradon, what happened to Anthony? Something happened to him and that is why you must take his place, right?” she asked while stating her guess.
