Submitting to My Best Friend's Dad-Chapter 887 : An Unexpected Follower
*Leo*
Shit. As I glanced at the rearview mirror, I cursed to myself as my eyes spotted my old beat-up car I used to drive before I had been able to afford to buy a new one.
Bianca.
What the hell was she doing? Following me? You’ve got to be kidding me. That was quite literally the last thing I needed to be hovering over my head at that moment.
It was obvious she knew I was lying, but to follow me was next level. And for her to have really thought that I wouldn’t notice her driving my old car.
I sighed as I shook my head. I picked up my cell phone from its resting place within my cup holders and tapped on the bright screen until Bianca’s name was staring at me. I had thought about calling her, but what would I say?
Hey, babe, what’s up? I caught you following me in my old car. What’s that about?
No. I didn’t have time to stir shit up right now. I had to get over to the warehouse to meet Franky. I was already late from making turn after turn to confirm my suspicions of her following me. I couldn’t believe she would do this.
I wasn’t just meeting Franky at the warehouse today, I was meant to be meeting with a large group of our men today. It was time to take serious action and also do damage control until we handled the LA mafia situation.
Micheal Wallace and everyone involved in the LA mafia made it crystal clear that they were not afraid to be seen. To be heard. To be known.
My family and I, however, did not operate that way. I wasn’t about to let those assholes expose us.
I had felt the need to wait another ten to fifteen minutes just to make sure Bianca wasn’t circling back around to continue following me. Although, I think I might have spooked her by waving at her as she passed by. I chuckled to myself, just slightly, as I imagined her face when she had realized I’d caught her.
I scanned the area around me and when I felt confident that she had left the area, I pulled back on to the road. My eyes darted back and forth between the road and the lit screen of my cellphone as I sent Franky a text to let him know I’d be later than I originally planned.
On my way to the warehouse, I had worried what the hell I was going to say to Bianca when I’d see her at home later. What was there for me to say that wasn’t a lie? I knew she’d demand the truth from me.
It was clear she was willing to do anything to find out what I was doing. Where it was, I was always running off to when I’d have to leave her behind. I didn’t feel confident that she was going to give up so easily, either.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t something that I had time to worry about right now. I had so much bigger shit to deal with. I wished she could see that. And yeah, I know if I just told her everything, she could have the opportunity to see that. However, that wasn’t something I felt was necessary just yet.
I cleared my mind of everything except for the task at hand as I pulled up to the warehouse. There had only been three other jet-black cars parked outside of the obscure building. I had told Franky to make sure there weren’t a circus of cars outside and for the guys to park in hidden spots around the area.
I stepped out onto the black asphalt and closed the car door behind me. I nodded my head slightly to myself as I inhaled.
Let’s get this shit done, I had thought to myself as I opened the door to the warehouse. A sea of men dressed in dark colors greeted me. I scanned the room in search of Franky’s face.
“Leo! Over here.” I heard Franky’s voice pointing me in the direction of his location.
“Everything good, man?” Franky asked as I approached him.
I nodded my head without hesitation. “It will be. Let’s get this shit started.”
“Let’s do it,” he agreed.
Franky stood directly beside me as we both turned towards the crowd of men.
“All right! Listen up!” I raised my voice to everyone.
The room silenced and every pair of eyes were on me.
“All right. Now, our biggest focus right now is finding Micheal Wallace and Elijah,” I informed the group. “You are not to kill them. They are to be captured only. Got it?”
Everyone spoke their understanding at once.
“Good,” I replied in my commanding tone of voice. “We also need to pack up all of our products in these wooden crates and get them shipped out immediately. We have zero time to waste.”
I paused before continuing to speak. “The LA mafia invites attention and brings it with them wherever they go. We need all of our warehouses empty just in case the wrong set of eyes were to step foot inside one of them.”
Heads nodded in their continued understanding.
After I filled them in on the procedure and schedule of the shipments, I handpicked a smaller group of men and pulled them off to the side.
“All right, listen up. You guys will have another job,” I spoke as I glanced at Franky.
Obviously, I hadn’t had a chance to talk to Franky about what I was about to do. There hadn’t been time between an hour ago and now. With what Bianca pulled this morning, it was clear action was needed to be put in place when it came to her.
From the moment I picked Bianca up from the airport to the moment I first touched her, I had never wanted it to come to this. However, now that she had proven herself to be reckless, I had to make sure she was protected at all times.
“I will need you guys to watch Bianca around the clock. Whether you’re sitting outside of my house or outside one of her classes on campus, you keep your eyes on her,” I told them with importance weighing heavy in my tone. “Do not approach her. Keep your distance, but keep her protected. Is that clear?”
The small group of men spoke their understanding before I dismissed them. I turned to Franky, waiting for him to weigh in his opinion.
“You really think that’s a good idea?” He asked, raising his one eyebrow at me with a hint of smirk on his face. “She’ll flip if she notices a strange man following her.”
“Then, she’ll know how it feels,” I spoke entirely too quickly and without thinking.
“What does that mean?” He asked swiftly.
“Nothing. It doesn’t matter,” I snapped.
“Woah. Leo, come on,” he said, herding me off to the side a bit more. “What’s up, man? What’s going on?”
I shook my head in an irritated fashion. “I caught Bianca following me in my old maroon car this morning.”
Franky chuckled lightly. “That old thing still runs? Damn. I’m impressed.”
“Yeah,” I scoffed. “I would have thought the same thing if I hadn’t been so blindsided by the whole thing.”
“She was actually following you? For how long?” He asked with a bit of concern in his voice.
“She must have been waiting for me in the parking lot outside of my office. I noticed her shortly after I had left there.” I told him, rubbing the rough facial hair on my chin.
“Damn. I didn’t think she had it in her,” he replied. “So, you think keeping a small detail of our men is going to help that situation, or...?”
“I don’t have a choice at this point, do I?” I snapped without meaning to. “I have to put all my focus on finding these assholes. I don’t have time to make sure I’m not being tailed by my own girlfriend for fuck sakes.”
“All right, man. I get it,” he replied smoothly. “Personally, I don’t think it’s going to end well, but if it’s what you feel is necessary, then I’ll support it.”
“Thank you,” I sighed, not really wanting to talk about this anymore.
“Do you think it’s time to just tell her everything? Wouldn’t that be easier on you? Then, you wouldn’t have to lie and jump through all these hoops all the time.” He offered.
I understood where he was coming from, but I didn’t agree. Not yet, at least.
“No,” I replied simply. “It’s not time yet. It’s safer for her to remain in a state of oblivion for right now. One day, yes, I will tell her. But that day isn’t today.”
Franky nodded his head. “All right.”
It was true. Bianca being oblivious to the truth of my way of life was the safest thing for her right now. Especially, with the war that had been taking place. I didn’t want her getting herself in the crosshairs. Which is exactly why I need our men following her every move.
It was always true when I said I’d tell her one day. Because I had every intention of revealing every aspect of the truth to her. When I felt the time was right, however. This kind of thing wasn’t something that was done lightly. Just because she had told me she loved me, doesn’t rule out the possibility of her not accepting my lifestyle.
What if she decided she doesn’t want to be in a relationship with me? What if I had just revealed all of my secrets to her and she decided to run away with those secrets? I wouldn’t be able to trust she wouldn’t say anything to anyone. To Anna. To Mia. And if that would end up making its way to Al, it would not look good for me.
I had to protect her, but I also had to protect myself. Protect my family from exposure. I had to make sure her hands would be capable of holding my secrets before I simply handed them over just to solve a minor conflict.
That could be portrayed as harsh, but it was necessary. I am the Don, after all. I didn’t have the luxury of screwing shit up over a woman. I had to remain in control of the situation at all times. To remain in control of every situation. I had to keep my state of mind in check. And so far, I had allowed my control to slip ever so slightly when I had been trying to save my relationship with Bianca.
I couldn’t let that happen again. I had to focus on taking down Micheal Wallace, Elijah, and the entire LA mafia if that was what it took to be done with this madness.
