Submitting to My Best Friend's Dad-Chapter 886 : Caught Red Handed
*Bianca*
The drawer to my dresser opened easily as I gently pulled on it. My hands mindlessly latched onto fabric, pulling the over-sized t-shirt over my head. In the next drawer, I grabbed a pair of underwear and slid them on.
I climbed into bed gingerly, not feeling angry at all. In that moment, it wasn’t anger that I had felt. It was hurt. A pinch of embarrassment.
I’d just completely put myself out there only to be rejected. Whether he could’ve helped it or not, that was what it had felt like to me. I laid myself bare in front of him, only for him to walk away from me.
I felt like a fool. To think that for just one single fucking moment, I could be more important than whatever it was he was always running to. I never knew when he was going to disappear. And I hated that.
What if we would have been in the middle of having sex? What if he had been deep inside me when he had heard his phone ring? When he had received the Batman signal that he was never able to resist. Would he have answered? Would he have stopped and apologized for his abrupt departure?
Something inside of me told me he would. And that was kind of a shitty thing to think of your own boyfriend, wasn’t it?
I was in and out of sleep all night. It hadn’t felt like rest at all. Thoughts of Leo bled into my dreams, corrupting them. My self-doubt corroding the edges, blurring the line between doubt and real lies. A real liar.
I didn’t want to believe that Leo was a liar. But my heart was hurting and I couldn’t help but think something wasn’t as it seemed. I knew Leo was lying. About what, however, I wasn’t sure. It was something I wanted to find out, though.
So, within my moments of awareness during my restless sleep, I conjured up a plan. A plan that would provide me the proof I was in need of.
As soon as my eyes saw the image of dawn being painted on the windows, I allowed myself to stop trying so hard to remain in a sleeping state. Memories of Leo invaded my mind as I remembered him coming home late last night.
I had heard his footsteps first. The knob of the door turning next. Then, came the deep sound of his voice. He had asked me if I had still been awake. I remained quiet, pretending to be asleep. Just above a whisper, he had called out my name.
I hadn’t wanted to speak to him as flashes of my naked body atop his bed disrupted my mind. Disrupted my thought process. The feeling of hurt had seeped back in. I hadn’t been ready to face that yet. To face him.
His half naked body lying next to mine wasn’t something I had wanted either. I knew he’d ask to sleep next to me and I didn’t have the energy to disappoint him.
Leo usually would get up at this time. He’d shower and get ready for work. I’d be in the kitchen eating breakfast by the time he’d walk down.
This morning, however, would not follow routine. I went into the bathroom long enough to brush my teeth and splash water on my face. I walked on clouds as I maneuvered around my room grabbing clothes from within my dresser and my closet.
Once my jeans were zipped and buttoned, I pulled my charcoal-colored shirt over my head. I slipped on a pair of socks and climbed back into bed. I tugged on the blankets until they were completely covering me from neck to toe.
A few short moments later, I heard Leo’s footsteps. He was right on time.
I closed my eyes and acted as if I were still asleep. The knob of the door twisted open right before I heard Leo’s voice.
“Bianca?” He spoke just above a whisper again. “Are you still sleeping?”
I remained silent, hoping he’d give up quickly and walk away.
“I was hoping we could talk if you were ready. I’d hate to leave for the day with you being upset with me,” he continued.
I rolled over and yawned, trying to really sell the image of me pretending to be in a sleepy state of mind.
“I just need more time,” I said in a low voice.
“Yeah, all right,” he sighed. “Take all the time you need. I understand.”
Again, I remained silent, acting as if I had already fallen back asleep. As if I hadn’t heard him.
He lingered in the doorway, clutching the wood gently. I could feel his eyes burning holes into me. I wished he’d turn around and walk away already.
After a few moments passed by, Leo finally disappeared and closed the door behind him. I exhaled heavily, thinking he was never going to leave unless we talked. I waited about ten or so minutes before throwing the warm blankets off of my body.
Once again, clouds enveloped my feet as I made my way down the hallway and down the staircase. I had snuck around the main floor as if I had been in one of those spy movies, infiltrating the enemy’s homebase.
No sign of Leo. Which in that very moment, was a good sign.
I snuck into the kitchen, my eyes locked onto the door that led out into the garage. My body draped itself over the doorframe, sticking my ear to the door as I listened carefully. I heard Leo close the door to his car, followed by the sounds of the outer garage door opening. His engine roared to life and seconds later I heard the garage door connect with the concrete.
He was gone.
I snatched a chocolate chip muffin from the kitchen counter and a bottle of water from within the fridge before heading into the garage. It was huge as far as garages were concerned. Leo loved his cars. They were his prized possessions to be sure.
Luckily for me, he kept this old beater cooped up in the garage. I had never actually seen him drive it before. I wondered what it was to him for him to continue keeping it without it seeming to serve a purpose.
The outside color was a dusty maroon with two pinstripes circling the entire body. The interior was just as expected, if I had to be honest. It had looked like a maroon carpet threw up in here. The smell that infiltrated my nose had been a bit musty, as well.
I searched for a key while hoping this thing had enough gas for my adventure today. Or any gas, really. I searched the center compartment, the glovebox, and the small compartment underneath the heating and cooling controls. It wasn’t until I pulled the visor down that a key had fallen into my lap.
Yes!
I pushed the metal key into the ignition and twisted, crossing my fingers as I locked eyes with the gas gauge. Just above a half tank of gas. It must be my lucky day!
I got out of the car to open the garage door and backed the old beater out into the driveway. Once the garage door connected with the concrete once more today, I sped off down the driveway and on to the main road.
I had done a little research and found out where Leo’s office was located. My plan was to drive there and see if his car was actually in the parking lot. I knew it seemed crazy, spying on my boyfriend, but what other options did I have at that point?
I wanted to trust him, but I just couldn’t. I needed proof. Anything to prove he was telling me the truth. So, if I had to walk over to the crazy side for a moment, I would. It was a risk I was willing to take.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t used to the LA streets just yet. I made a couple of wrong turns before finally spotting the building where Leo’s office was located. I wondered if he owned that building too.
Upon pulling into the parking lot, disappointment loomed over me. I didn’t see Leo’s car anywhere. Great. That’s just great. He lied. I knew it! Ugh.
I pulled in the very back of the parking lot and turned the engine off. My fingers gripped the visor and pulled it down, sliding the little plastic cover to the left until the mirror was revealed. I looked at myself and shook my head. I looked ridiculous.
I figured I’d need to hide my face, just in case, so I had thrown my hair up into a tight bun and placed a black baseball hat on top of my head to cover the color of my hair. Then, I placed these huge sunglasses on my face that made me look like one of those bugs with giant round eyes.
All this, I had thought to myself. All this just to prove my boyfriend was lying to me. He was stepping on my insecurities without seeming to care very much. How was I supposed to take that?
I decided to wait a few moments to see if he’d show. He could have had an errand to run before heading into the office, I had thought hopefully. I wasn’t holding my breath, however.
I busied myself with the muffin I had brought with me. I don’t usually skip breakfast, so my stomach was practically screaming at me. My fingers carefully pulled at the brown liner until my muffin was free. I took bite after bite until it was completely gone. It was a damn good muffin, I had to admit. I wished I had another.
After I washed the muffin down with water, I noticed Leo’s car pulling into the parking lot. Shit! I tossed the bottle of water on to the passenger seat and scooted down in my own seat. I didn’t want to risk him seeing me.
Different thoughts had flooded my mind. He was here. He showed up. This should have been a good sign. He hadn’t been lying after all.
Something inside of me, however, told me to wait. So, I waited. And I was glad I did because not even twenty minutes had passed before I saw Leo walking back out of the double glass doors. I watched as he climbed back in his car and pulled back out of the parking lot.
What the fuck? Where was he going? I wasn’t sure, but I was sure as hell going to find out. I started the engine quickly and headed for the main road. It didn’t take long for me to spot Leo’s car.
I made sure to follow behind at least one car length back so I wasn’t too obvious in my pursuit. Like I had said before, I wasn’t intimate with the streets of LA. I had no idea where he was going or what direction he would have been heading in. I simply followed him blindly.
We drove for a while, which started to confuse me. Did he have sites this far away from his office? I supposed I wasn’t sure how large of an area his real estate business covered.
Just as I had begun to think of all the possible places he could be heading to, I noticed he started making a lot of turns. Too many, if you’d ask me. Something didn’t feel right, but I couldn’t put my finger on it.
Then, suddenly, Leo’s car slowed and pulled off to the side of the road. I panicked, not sure what he was doing or what I should do. If I kept going, I’d lose him. But if I pulled over too, it would have been obvious that I was following him.
I didn’t have enough time to think before I slowly drove past him. My head turned and glanced over at him. Sure enough, Leo had rolled down his window and stuck out his arm to wave at me.
Shit! I had been caught red handed.
Well, that did not go as expected. It most definitely was not my lucky day. Shit!
