Chapter 788: Part 1: Caught by Wind Wolf

5th Zone: The Wilderness

Swoosh!

Jeremy Night unsheathed his katana blade, gripping the handle tightly.

He hadn’t expected to come across another beast tide so soon. He feared the city’s defense was going to be breached today.

Not only that, there is someone targeting him. He thinks they are related to the Darkshade Organisation.

Boom!

In a flash, the confrontation began. The Elders and the supervisors fought against the Tier-6 and Tier-7 beasts.

Meanwhile, Tier-5 beasts and below reached the frontline in massive numbers. Jeremy didn’t hold back and started attacking the corrupted beasts.

Stab!

He activated his eye ability. The movements of the corrupted beasts became clear in his vision. He simply stepped forward and stabbed a beast with surgical precision.

His x-ray vision revealed its blood vessels; the blade penetrated deep before severing them.

Puchak!

He withdrew the blade before attacking other beasts one by one. The blade in his hand moved with fluid grace, always finding the right spot.

He wasn’t killing the beasts with a single move; instead, he was immobilizing them, leaving them to bleed to death.

At the same time, the pressure on the defenders increased. In just a few moves, the frontline was breached on many sides.

The onslaught was too much to handle. The beast tamers couldn’t stop the surge of Tier-5 beasts and were quickly overwhelmed.

Blood and organs splattered across the ground. The scene was gruesome.

The beasts didn’t stop there, they moved directly toward the city wall. If they broke through, they would reach the civilian sectors.

Puchak!

Jeremy continued killing the beasts on his side, but he didn’t notice the full scale of the situation. Deaths were happening all around him, but he had no power to stop them all.

Hiss!

A Tier-5 snake beast launched an attack. Jeremy shifted his weight and narrowly avoided the snake’s massive maw.

At that exact moment, he swung his blade. The edge, coated in starlight thread, shattered the snake’s scales.

Pfff!

The blade swept through the flesh underneath. The snake hissed in agony as a deep red line appeared across its body, blood spurting from the wound.

Though the snake hissed in pain, it was no match for Jeremy Night. However, the injured beast didn’t stop; it crashed into another beast-taming group.

They failed to stop it.

Puchak!

The snake beast bit into the beast tamers and their Lifeline beasts. Their bodies were shredded apart.

These Tier-3 and Tier-4 Beast Tamers were simply no match for a Tier-5 corrupted snake.

Finally, the Captains stationed at the city walls took note of the rushing serpent. One of them darted out to intercept it.

The Captains were Tier-5 Beast Tamers. Only a few teams were on duty atop the wall, but the situation had become so dire that they were forced to step in.

Phew!

Jeremy heaved a sigh of relief. If that snake had been left unchecked, it would have wiped out several more teams

Catherine Rosewood and her family’s beast tamers were suffering as well. Chaos erupted on their side.

Catherine was terrified, staring at the wall of beasts ahead. They had managed to take down one Tier-5 beast, but it had cost them a casualty. Many more were closing in.

Blade One!

Jeremy spotted a Tier-6 Panther Beast that had slipped past the Elders and supervisors. Thanks to his eye power, he discerned its trajectory and closed the gap quickly.

The beast was massive, his blade wouldn’t reach its vitals from the side. He waited for the perfect opportunity before sliding underneath the panther.

Jeremy felt a mysterious power emanating from his weapon. He leaped high, slashing the blade across the beast’s abdomen.

Cut!

The blade tore through the panther’s belly. A torrent of blood gushed from the wound.

Pfff!

Though the cut was small compared to the beast’s overall size, the blood loss was significant.

Stab!

He didn’t stop there. He used the blade to sever the major blood vessels. If the beast escaped, it would ravage the frontline. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

The starlight power, combined with the Blade One move, broke through the panther’s thick hide.

Roar!

The panther let out a final roar before collapsing to the ground. Before anyone could see him, Jeremy left the spot and started targeting other beasts.

Tud!

The Tier-6 Panther Beast lay collapsed. It was still alive, but it would slowly bleed to death. Jeremy had severed the critical vessels; it wouldn’t be able to stand again.

Aaaahhh!

A second later, a cry for help rang out. Jeremy turned and saw Catherine Rosewood. A massive, 30-foot Wind Wolf was attacking her group. Her family’s beast tamers were already trapped in its mouth.

"Sh!t," Jeremy cursed.

He drew his handgun and started firing at the Wind Wolf’s eyes, the weakest point.

He expected the beast to try to protect itself, but to his surprise, the wolf moved with incredible speed before the bullets could connect.

He missed. The bullets whistled through empty air.

The next second, a sense of crisis washed over him. The Wind Wolf appeared directly in front of him, its massive mouth aiming to bite him whole.

Jeremy shoved his katana forward. He didn’t have time to holster his gun, so he used his left hand to brace the block.

Puchak!

The blade struck near the wolf’s sharp teeth. The giant beast tried to shake him off, but Jeremy didn’t lose his grip on the handle. If he let go, he would become food.

Roar!

The beast roared, the force of the wind hitting Jeremy like a physical blow. Still, he held on.

Swoosh!

The Wind Wolf changed tactics, deciding to retreat back toward the wilderness. Because Jeremy’s blade was stuck in its jaw, he had no time to react.

The wolf activated its wind ability. In a flash, it blurred past the Elders and supervisors, who were too busy with Tier-7 threats to notice a Tier-6 beast escaping.

No one saw Jeremy Night being carried away, except for Catherine Rosewood. Her expression turned pale with fright as he vanished into the distance.
