Chapter 85: Getting ready

[Third Person POV:]

Nathan sat there, right beside Layena and Kyle on the bus.

The reason he had introduced himself to Kyle earlier was because Amanda made him realize that his presence in class might be a little too faint.

’You are Kory, right?’ she had said. No, sister. I am not Kory.

But that wasn’t what stayed on his mind. Something else had caught him off guard.

Until now, Nathan had seen Kyle as someone on his level. Someone who didn’t care about others and stayed away from the high-tier kids despite his background.

But on the bus, the way Kyle beat the hell out of Ethan left a deep impression on him.

And when they were assigned the same room, Nathan knew this was his chance to learn a few moves and finally deal with that oaf once and for all.

However, "Sorry, not teaching anything," Kyle said bluntly, raising his hand in refusal.

"Ah, but why? I mean, I can pay you if you want."

"Haah, you think money can solve everything? There is something greater than money, even greater than martial arts, when dealing with guys like them."

Kyle looked straight into his eyes before adding, "And that’s courage."

Nathan drew in a sharp breath. "W-What do you mean?"

Kyle shrugged. "What’s the point of strength if you don’t have the courage to use it? Even if you know how to fight, what’s the point if you won’t use it to protect your girlfriend?"

Nathan’s gaze grew heavy. "How can you say that? How can you call me a coward?"

Kyle frowned. "The fact that you let your girlfriend handle things on her own and still haven’t fought that guy says enough."

Nathan fell silent.

As harsh as it sounded, it was the truth.

He had stayed silent all this time, letting Terry handle everything on her own just because she said she could.

He never once met that bastard’s gaze, fooling himself into believing things would resolve on their own someday.

But after hearing Kyle, Nathan was forced to confront what he had truly been doing until now.

He was forced to face his own cowardice.

"I understand," he said after a moment of silence. "I will handle it myself."

Kyle gave a faint smile before saying, "No matter how big someone is, they won’t stay standing if you hit the back of their knees by surprise. Once they’re down, put everything you’ve got into your kicks. All your anger, all your strength."

Nathan nodded. He would settle this tonight.

Kyle let out a quiet sigh as he got up from the bed. "I’m going to take a bath."

They had been told to report to the lobby in an hour, and half of that time had already slipped away during their conversation.

Time to get ready.

He pulled out a set of clothes from his bag, choosing something thick and comfortable since it was colder here than in the city.

Grabbing a towel, he headed into the bathroom.

The moment he stepped inside, a faint warmth wrapped around him, a stark contrast to the chill outside. The bathroom was far more refined than he had expected from a school trip.

Smooth marble tiles stretched across the floor and walls, faint veins running through them like frozen streams. A large mirror covered nearly the entire wall above the sink, its edges softly lit, casting a clean, white glow across the space.

To the side, a glass partition separated the shower area, where a chrome showerhead hung overhead, promising a good long stream.

A subtle scent of fresh linen lingered in the air, clean and calming.

Kyle placed his clothes on the dry counter, hung the towel within reach and then turned towards the shower.

He had to be careful now.

Why? Because if the water turned too hot and started hurting, the golden limb would react on its own, and that would immediately alert Layena.

That couldn’t happen.

He turned the shower knobs slowly, opening both sides just enough to let the water run. Instead of stepping in, he extended his hand beneath the stream, testing it cautiously. The temperature shifted between cold and warm as he adjusted it, his fingers lingering there until he was sure it had settled into something balanced.

Only when he was satisfied did he let out a quiet breath.

Then, finally, he stepped into the shower.

Warm water cascaded over him, comfortable, just the way he needed. No sudden spikes, no discomfort.

[Host, you are very situationally aware. Well done.]

Kyle let out a low chuckle. "Well, it’s my life on the line. Of course I’d be careful."

He didn’t linger there for long.

Stepping out, he grabbed the towel and wiped the moisture off his body. Once done, he slipped into his clothes.

Nothing flashy.

Just a well-fitted black shirt paired with black ankle-length trousers. He tucked the shirt in neatly, the overall look leaning more toward formal than casual, as if he were preparing for something important rather than just a gathering.

He wore sleek black shoes, their surface faintly reflecting the light, and moved to the mirror.

Picking up the dryer, he ran it through his hair, guiding the strands into place with practiced ease until they settled into a clean, sharp look.

He glanced at Nathan and asked, "You aren’t coming along?"

Nathan nodded, "Yes. Give me a few minutes. Let’s go together?" He asked.

Kyle nodded and sat on the bed, "Don’t make it long." Or a certain girl would knock on the door.

Nathan nodded and rushed into the bathroom.

Kyle sighed and took out his phone.

And just then, he saw a message from an unknown number.

Along with the message was a picture.

Picture taken from high angle showing a girl wearing black bra and pantyhose, her cheeks flushed but eyes mischievous.

The message read,

[Wearing black today. What about you?]

Kyle blushed furiously.

Amanda!
