Chapter 262: Offer

The students who watched the two leave looked at each other and gossiped. Those students who were near their table heard the entire sentence that Wang Jia said.

"That is Lin Sunji and Wang Jia from class 3-1A, right? Aren’t they best friends? Did they fight?"

"Did you hear what Wang Jia said? Did she mean that it was Lin Sunji who made the bullies use the tyrant’s name while bullying others?"

"You heard that too? I thought I heard it wrong. How can Lin Sunji do that?"

Their whispers naturally reached the table where Zhong Chen and Bei Sangyun were.

Zhong Cheng was stunned. He heard what Wang Jia said loud and clear and was too stunned to speak.

He did not expect that Lin Sunji was more devious as he originally thought. She was the one who tarnished the boss’s image so badly that everyone thought she was the greatest bully!

Zhong Cheng felt he had been too kind to Lin Sunji. He should have made her work harder!

Zhong Cheng glanced at Bei Sangyun, who seemed unmoved by everything.

He hesitantly asked, "...Boss, do you want me to increase Lin Sunji’s ’training’?" If his boss said she wanted Lin Sunji to experience hell, Zhong Cheng would comply. Lin Sunji deserved it.

Bei Sangyun was savoring the last cookie in the lunchbox, unbothered by the commotion. "Mhm? Why?"

Zhong Cheng: "...."

He glanced at her once more and carefully asked, "...Did you not hear what Wang Jia said, boss?"

"I heard it."

Zhong Cheng: "...." So, aren’t you going to do something about it?

Bei Sangyun finished the last bite and felt sad that there were no more cookies. But the thought of the possibility that Fei Chuan might bake for her again made her spirited.

She noticed Zhong Cheng looking at her strangely and chuckled, "I already know about it. Don’t worry, I already got the payment for it."

Lin Sunji might not know, but Bei Sangyun had already settled the accounts.

Lin Sunji had been kicked out of the line of heirs and lost many of her privileges as the heir, which was Bei Sangyun’s doing. Not to mention, the fate of the entire fourth branch was now in Bei Sangyun’s hands.

Besides, she was too happy right now to be angered by anything.

Zhong Cheng stared at Bei Sangyun admiringly. If it were him, he would still be holding a grudge against Lin Sunji. The tyrant had the power to ruin Lin Sunji’s image at school and make her school life a living hell. But the boss did not pursue it that way; rather, she gave Lin Sunji a chance to redeem herself.

Zhong Cheng felt he was still lacking in many ways.

His boss truly had an extensive mind that could rival anybody’s. As expected of the boss he chose to follow! He indeed made the right choice.

Bei Sangyun wasn’t aware of Zhong Cheng’s admiration and thought about Fei Chuan.

Had Fei Chuan finished his work already?

.....

In the library, Fei Chuan sat in an inconspicuous place, working on his laptop. When he finally reorganized everything, he dialed a number.

The other side only rang once before the call was immediately answered.

"Zero, it’s nice to hear from you. Is everything ready?" A man with a deep voice answered the phone in a foreign language, his Western accent pronounced.

"Yeah. I’m starting," Fei Chuan replied in the same language.

The other side chuckled, excitement evident in his deep voice. "Good. I’ll be watching."

Fei Chuan had called merely to inform him and was about to end the call when the man on the phone spoke again.

"Ah, right, Z. I’m hosting a party to kick off the event. I’ll be inviting you. Don’t worry, I won’t disclose your profession."

Fei Chuan declined immediately without hesitation, "No thanks."

The man on the phone was stunned for a moment, then laughed. "Hahaha, as expected of you. You rejected me without a second thought. But let me remind you, my invitation is rare, and many people fight for one from me. The party I’m inviting you to will surely be of great benefit to you."

"That’s precisely why I’m rejecting your offer," Fei Chuan replied, clicking something on his computer, and multiple data sets were immediately sent out. He was not tempted by the ’benefit’ his client was talking about.

"Anyway, I offer you my congratulations."

Fei Chuan knew he would be the center of attention once he appeared at the event under that man’s personal invitation. Many would be interested in him, seeking to join him, win him over, or destroy him if they couldn’t enlist his support.

He wasn’t yet at the level where he could defend himself against various forces. He was still weak.

The man on the phone understood Fei Chuan’s predicament and relented. "Fine. But my invitation remains open to you. You can come to me anytime to celebrate. I’m making this exception just for you." The man seemed genuinely fond of Fei Chuan, extending his invitation warmly.

"And you mentioned you plan to start abroad right after your graduation, right? I’ll reserve a position for you. Someone like you deserves to stand above many others. Your talent and skills are needed in my group. I’ll await your arrival," the man on the phone offered.

Fei Chuan remained silent for a while, unable to answer.

When he first took this job and discovered the man’s identity, he set one condition: to earn a favor from him. He planned to use that favor to expand his connections and establish his influence abroad.

In the past, he would have been glad to hear this and immediately agreed. But now, he couldn’t form the words. It was as if his throat was blocked, his mouth was sewn shut, and his initial idea of going abroad didn’t seem as appealing anymore.

Fei Chuan curled his fingers and replied, "I understand. Thank you."

The call ended, and Fei Chuan was left deep in thought.

Why couldn’t he agree easily? What was the matter with him? Isn’t this something he wanted to pursue?

Staring at his phone’s screen, Fei Chuan saw Bei Sangyun’s panda face.

His finger twitched, tapping the screen a few times, as if venting this unknown feeling, but then he suddenly paused. An unbelievable answer seemed to dawn on him, freezing him in place.
