Standing Next To You-Chapter 263: Fei Min
Chapter 263: Fei Min
Midnight descended upon the vibrant city of Country U, casting shadows that danced alongside the pulsating rhythm of the night.
Inside the club, the atmosphere crackled with energy, suffused with the intoxicating blend of loud music, laughter, smoke, and the clinking of glasses.
On the dance floor, bodies moved in sync with the throbbing beat, a kaleidoscope of colors swirling under the flickering lights. Many lost themselves in the ecstasy of the moment, their laughter and wild cheers echoing against the walls like a chorus of jubilation.
Upstairs, on the second floor, a different scene unfolded. Under the soft glow of chandeliers, a group of young masters gathered, their opulent attire a testament to their wealth and status. With glasses of champagne in hand, they surveyed the spectacle below, their eyes alight with amusement and intrigue.
While these groups of rich young men checked out the women dancing below, in a certain corner, Fei Min was checking the messages that his cousin Fei Ling sent.
He and Fei Ling were not close and they rarely contact each other. But they agree on one thing--their dislike and hatred for Fei Chuan.
Fei Min narrowed his eyes as he viewed the photo Fei Ling had sent him yesterday. It showed Fei Chuan with his hair cut short, adorned in a sapphire blue suit exuding the nobility and arrogance of a young master. His gloomy appearance disappeared, revealing the dominating aura he had in his bones.
Fei Min could discern the shadow of that intimidating kid who made everyone pale in comparison - his nightmare- from this photo.
That monster of a kid had returned.
Fei Min angrily dialed Fei Chuan’s number, only to find it blocked, with the operator’s voice being the only response.
Fei Min shut his phone with a curse.
"Fei Chuan, you dare ignore me? Just wait until I finish my business here. I’ll surely kick you out of the Fei mansion!"
Fei Min wanted to return to Country C and put Fei Chuan in his place. However, he can’t leave this place yet.
He had been staying in Country U for months now and was very close to his goal. In order to get ahead of his strongest competitor, his cousin Fei Hua Jang, he became an exchange student in a famous college in Country U to expand his connections. His sole goal was to get into the circle of the James family - one of the biggest empires in Country U known all over the world.
The Fei family was legendary in Country C, but compared to the hegemon families worldwide, they might not rank in the top twenty, especially in recent years. The Fei family’s prestige had waned over time.
Fei Min believed that their family’s inability to rise above others stemmed from their lack of international interaction. Even the newly rising Lin family had backers like the Simon family, but the Fei family lacked deep connections in the West.
Fei Min aimed to become the bridge and prove to his grandfather that he could elevate the Fei family to new heights. His plan began the moment he set foot in the country.
But it was easier said than done.
Fei Min targeted entry into the circle of the James family, yet he wasn’t the only one with that ambition. Many young masters from various families and social standings shared his goal.
Approaching any member of the James family was challenging due to their popularity and demand.
Fei Min worked diligently and finally became acquainted with one of the distant cousins of the James family. Today, they were supposed to meet one of the closest cousins of the James family. He was just one step away from integrating into the circles of his target.
Fei Min was on the verge of achieving his goal and had been busy in recent weeks. However, while he was preoccupied, Fei Chuan discarded his pretenses and took advantage of his absence to reveal his real self!
As Fei Min cursed Fei Chuan, a handsome young man with brown hair and hazel eyes appeared behind him. "Are you calling your girlfriend? Tonight’s supposed to be a singles’ night. Henry wants us to pick up girls."
Fei Min erased the frown from his face and smiled. "I was just calling my cousin."
"Ah, so it’s family. Come along then, we’re tasked to bring the girls downstairs."
Fei Min followed the young man with a smile. Although he was the great young master Fei back in Country C, in this group his status was no different from the lackeys who handled errands.
He detested this position but gritted his teeth and played along to be acquainted with the James. Once he befriended that close cousin of James’, he’d leave this annoying group behind.
He went downstairs and invited the girls. Fei Min had the good genes of the Fei family, tall and handsome. The girls readily agreed and joined the group of young masters upstairs.
At the center of the group was a man with bright blond hair and green eyes, the distant cousin of the James family whom everyone fawned over.
The man’s mood brightened with the presence of the girls.
"Henry is finally in a good mood. I wonder when he will call his cousin? I heard that cousin is the real deal, he is closest to the James," remarked the man with brown hair and hazel eyes, also from a prestigious family in Country H, on the same continent as Country C.
Both he and Fei Min shared the same goal: to be acquainted with Henry’s cousin, the closest relative to the James family. They planned to use that ticket to integrate into the James family.
Fe Min never liked this ’friend’ of his. But this ’friend’ knew most of the inside news so he endured in staying in this friendship.
"But he’s arriving today, right?"
"Yeah, that’s what I heard," replied the hazel-eyed man. Just then, Henry abruptly stood up, drawing their attention.
"My cousin is here! Let’s welcome him!"
Henry led the way downstairs, followed by all the young masters in the room, including Fei Min.
At the entrance of the high-end club, a man with bright blond hair and emerald eyes was greeted by Henry and his entourage.
"Kenneth! Let’s head upstairs. Our drinks are waiting!"
Kenneth appeared to be in high spirits, grinning from ear to ear. "I can’t join your party. The James family is hosting an event, and I’m invited. I just dropped by to tell you in person."
Henry was taken aback, then asked eagerly, "Can I come too?"
"Sorry, bro. It’s a private affair, and the guest list is limited. But I’ll bring you along next time."
Henry was disappointed, but he understood his status wasn’t yet at the level where he could easily secure an invitation from the James family.
"Oh, by the way, cousin, you should check the news and offer your congratulations early. The Hensons, you know them, right? The Young Master of the Henson family had some beef with my cousin. Just now, that jerk from the Henson family got caught in a scandal. It’s a big one. You’ll hear more about it in the news later. That jerk’s done for this time."
Kenneth and Henry’s conversation was overheard by everyone. They promptly checked their phones for news updates, waiting for the article Kenneth mentioned to be published.
Fei Min paid close attention too. While his focus was on the James family, he was intrigued by the mention of the Hensons, one of the largest families in Country U, known to rival the James.
Fei Min also considered siding with the Hensons; however, after some thorough investigation, he uncovered the Hensons’ reputation for using people as stepping stones.
He learned that the ’friends’ of the young master of the Henson family were treated poorly, worse than mere servants.
Despite his ambitions, Fei Min still had his pride, so he chose not to align himself with the Hensons.
"This is great news. Let’s celebrate upstairs as well! Cousin, please pass on my regards to the James."
"Don’t worry. I will," Kenneth assured, then left promptly.
Fei Min and the other young masters felt a pang of regret for not being able to introduce themselves to Kenneth and establish a connection. This was a great opportunity yet it disappeared just like that.
Henry clapped them on the back and ushered them upstairs. "Cousin will surely bring us along next time. But for now, let’s drink!"
Fei Min forced a smile, concealing his disappointment.
