Chapter 68: Warm Evening.

Apparently, the village inhabitants wanted to thank Lloyd with a lively banquet, and a party.

The truth is that surprised Lloyd, he didn’t expect so much attention after that hectic day.

But it would be rude to refuse a party made for him, right?

The truth is at first Lloyd didn’t want to go, he was tired and depressed.

However, as the party went on, the truth is Lloyd began to like the party.

Lloyd was never very sociable, he never went to parties.

The only thing Lloyd remembered were the quiet birthday parties he celebrated with his mother, before she died of course.

After that, he never celebrated his birthday again.

Lloyd was never very good at making friends.

He certainly tried to be kind and gentle, but he didn’t really connect with people.

He used to be isolated, and sometimes was bothered by others, one more victim of society.

Still, Lloyd never treated others badly, because it was his mother’s teaching, Lloyd felt that if he disobeyed that rule, she would leave, she would go away definitively.

Even though she was already dead.

That’s why Lloyd always tried to be good, even though life treated him badly.

Though that also distanced him from other people, he stopped wanting to empathize or connect.

However, at that party Lloyd had fun, he even laughed, something uncommon for him.

At that party Lloyd set aside his mask and could be a child again.

He felt more relaxed, more connected with his companions.

Though at the same time, there was a problem, a fear that grew in his heart, the fear that it was a lie, a kind of trap.

It was something Lloyd himself didn’t understand, nor had logical explanation, but at the same time he was having fun, his alert systems activated.

Though little by little, that sensation that isolated him was disappearing, the chains he himself had imposed were disappearing.

It was, in other words, a good evening.

Lloyd enjoyed it.

He enjoyed something he had never understood and had never wanted to fight for.

Was he wrong all this time?

Maybe society wasn’t as bad as he believed, maybe there were good people to connect with.

Lloyd didn’t know, he wasn’t even sure if he was ready to open up to someone again.

He wasn’t even sure what he felt.

But if there was one thing he could be sure of, it’s that at least, that night, he had had a good time.

He had eaten rich food, a kind of barbecue with what the beast-men had hunted in the forest and fished in the river.

They had danced around the fire, Sköll had always played the fool, though Lloyd was surprised to see a drunk Gueri start dancing stupidly too.

Then came the part where Lloyd was forced to dance.

Without doubt he was embarrassed, and even lost several V.P, but he had fun.

Without doubt he had had fun.

It had been a busy day, and an even more hectic night.

But it hadn’t been bad.

Contrary to what Lloyd had expected, it hadn’t been bad.

In fact, even he had to admit he had enjoyed it.

And Lloyd even wondered if it would happen again, though he wasn’t very desperate either.

After all, while he had had fun, he was still someone who preferred to be efficient above all.

That world was too dangerous to be getting distracted.

Lloyd let out a long sigh.

He was calm, lying on the grass.

A day had already passed since that.

"Mmmm, maybe I should return to the fortress," Lloyd thought calmly.

After all, it had been several days since the assassin guild attacked, so it seemed safe to leave.

Moreover there were ways to defend the village without having to stay.

He could leave Siegfried in the village, and if there was an attack Siegfried would defend the beast-men.

If things got ugly he could always use Siegfried as an anchor point to transport himself there.

"Yeah it’s a good plan, being here is a bit boring... besides I must complete that mission," Lloyd commented aloud, while watching the clouds pass.

The air gently caressed his face, while whistling through the tree branches.

The sun rays were warm and comforting, and calmed the boy.

He wanted to return to Conrad’s fort to fulfill the mission the system had given him.

Though he didn’t know what the secret room he supposedly should find was or anything like that, he had no clues, and that bothered him.

He didn’t like leaving things half-done.

Or simply leaving things unresolved.

Especially something like that.

Something that gave benefits.

Or in this case, resources.

Still he knew he had the responsibility to defend the beast-men. Though on the other hand, he knew they could defend themselves already.

After all he was using them, not the other way around.

If he couldn’t go somewhere because he had to defend them, that would make them a burden, and Lloyd didn’t want that.

"Yes, besides, Lucia must be about to finish her mission, or so I hope," Lloyd commented calmly while caressing the grass with his hand.

After all Lloyd wanted to act before the noble who was behind his assassination attempt realized he was still alive.

Though deep down he knew it was very likely it was so, or at least he was already aware the beast-men had regained control of the Fenrir village.

Still, Lucia was taking too long to gather consistent evidence against the noble. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Though that was also something that could be done after killing him, Lloyd preferred to gather the evidence first, because maybe that way he could convince the guards to take that noble away instead of defending him.

And while there was the possibility they would defend him anyway, Lloyd preferred to be prepared.

"Yes, I’ll go tell Sebastian," the boy said while getting up.

The young man cast a glance at the forest, while taking a large gulp of fresh air, like what almost no longer remained on Earth.

It was time to leave the Fenrir tribe village and return to Conrad’s fort.

There, they would develop the plan to recover what was his.

The territory of Cocytus.
