Chapter 221: Wait, what?

Damon did not know when he finally fell asleep, but he instantly regretted doing so. As soon as he closed his eyes, all he could see was that contorted figure of that demon cackling loudly about the thread of fate.

"I will come back for you." Its shrill voice echoed in his mind as a vague pain spread somewhere deep inside him. Damon tossed and turned, unable to sleep and yet unable to wake up from the dream.

However, in the middle of this madness, suddenly an unexpected light shone brightly. Damon felt a nourishing warmth wrap around him. It was gentle and soft like a woman’s loving embrace.

Damon pulled the warmth closer and hugged her tightly. He buried his face into the light, into that warm presence, and the terror ebbed away like a nightmare caught in morning sun. But there was still something bothering him.

He casually pulled aside whatever was bothering him, and the warmth further intensified. He was in heaven, in complete bliss. Surrounded by that wonderful softness, he finally drifted into a peaceful sleep. The best sleep he had had in years.

When Damon finally stirred awake, he almost did not want to wake up from that amazing place. His eyes remained closed for a moment longer as he tried to hold onto the lingering sensation. He knew that it was probably some sort of a dream, so it was useless, but he tried.

Surprisingly, he could still feel the softness?

Wait, what?

He moved his head again, feeling the warm softness on both sides. As he did, his fangs drew a little blood by mistake, and a familiar drop of blood trickled to his tongue.

Damon’s eyes instantly flashed open. How could he not possibly recognize this drop of blood? For that matter, the scent that was now wrapped all around him?

Fucking hell!

He quickly jolted out of bed the second he realized who exactly was lying next to him.

Aurora sat up slowly from the bed, hair a mess of gold, eyes still drowsy and innocent. The oversized white shirt she wore slid off one shoulder, exposing porcelain skin that shimmered faintly with mana residue.

"You bit me in your sleep," she murmured, voice thick with sleep and entirely too satisfied. "It was adorable."

Damon nearly tripped over himself. "What are you doing here?! No—how are you here?! You were not here when I went to sleep! I made sure I locked the—wait, did I lock?!"

He then mentally sent a piece of his mind to that traitorous bastard. ’What the fuck La Rocha? What kind of defense is this? Couldn’t you have alerted me?’

The item spirit only scoffed. ’Aren’t they your friends? How am I supposed to know that she was not allowed? I figured she was a crazed thrall. Don’t you bloodsuckers love making the women drool over you?’

Damon sighed in frustration, deciding to deal with the item spirit later. First things first. He needed to stop this situation from escalating further.

Meanwhile, Aurora casually giggled, swinging her legs over the edge of the bed like they belonged there. "I am sorry. Did I surprise you? I only came by yesterday to make sure you were okay. I mean, when we last met, you looked so stressed. I couldn’t just leave you alone, could I? Besides," her eyes gleamed with dangerous affection.

"You hugged me so tightly. I had no choice but to stay."

Damon wanted to slap himself. This conversation was pointless. It was better to send her out first. He quickly changed his tactics and started blurting out words.

"Ahem. I see. I think I was having a bad dream or something, so you definitely helped me out there. Thank you for that. We actually have a lot to do today. Shall we both get freshened up and meet downstairs for breakfast? What do you say?" He opened the door and stepped out when he instantly froze.

Of course as luck would have it, Kate and Mark were standing right at his doorstep. Thankfully he hadn’t opened the door completely and they did not see Aurora but they were also high-tier vampires. How could they have not smelled her?

Damon started panicking and quickly spoke whatever came to his mind. "Damn it, Mark. I fucking overslept. What are you guys still doing here? Get back into the game right now and see what changed happened because of the sudden mana influx."

Both Kate and Mark stared at him. Kate especially opened her mouth but Damon quickly urged them again. "Now. Go and see what changes have been implemented. There should definitely be something new."

And Damon was not even lying. Puting the matter of hiding Aurora aside, this was the first thing on his mind.

Both of them nodded and immediately did as he insisted, though not without raising eyebrows. Mark first pressed his tattoo and disappeared.

Kate lingered a heartbeat longer. Her eyes darted toward the barely-cracked door behind Damon, her expression thoughtful. Then, without saying anything more, she too activated the tattoo and teleported.

As soon as they were out of sight, Damon let out a big sigh. When he turned around, Aurora was now humming cheerfully to herself, brushing her hair out with her fingers like this was the most normal morning in the world.

Damon pinched the bridge of his nose. "So like I was telling them, we should all hurry back into the game and see what changed and if there are any new quests."

Aurora nodded with a sweet smile. "Anything for you." She then walked over to the door, gave him a big hug with a gentle kiss on his cheeks and activated her tattoo as well, teleporting away.

Damon stood speechlessly, wondering what the hell was going on. What was running in this girl’s mind? Did she think she was his girlfriend now and that they were in a committed relationship?

He thought about everything that had happened since drinking her blood and there was simply no other explanation. He was probably, no definitely in a relationship with this girl.

How in the name of sweet jesus had he somehow ended up in a relationship without even being aware of it? What kind of a misunderstanding was this?

Kate was going to kill him, wasn’t she?

Damon groaned internally, dragging a hand down his face. This was not some fucking fantasy where she would simply be fine with him hooking up left and right as he pleased. Heck, even if it was just one other woman... Damon felt a chill run down his spine.

She was definitely going to kill him with her bare hands!

The whole thing was a big mess and there were bigger messes he needed to focus on at the moment. Damon remained silent for a moment before shaking it off.

"Fuck it. I will explain it to her later." Damon’s eyes darted back to the bed and the pleasant memories he was now left with. He once again shook his head and then activated his tattoo before disappearing into the game world as well.

At the last second, he made sure to ask La Rocha to send word to his family, asking them as well to log in.
