Spoiled by the CEO after amnesia!-Chapter 100 - 98: He is Only Patient with Two People
Jiayi gasped for breath, still trying to flee this place that disgusted her, but the man’s stern gaze was like a petrifying spell, rendering her immobile. She had no choice but to sit down for the time being.
"Call my private doctor over!" Huo Zhenyang commanded.
The nanny at the doorway hurried away.
After ten minutes, Dr. Han, the Huo family’s private doctor, hurriedly arrived, following the call.
"Take her to the hospital at the resort on the island and give her a thorough examination, now, immediately, right away." The man was ruthless, his words sharp and cold.
Chongren Island evolved into a fully-developed resort island, with life amenities being quite complete, and naturally, the hospital had sufficient basic diagnostic equipment.
Just on account of a lab report, she claims it’s his flesh and blood?
If that were the case, the children lining up to recognize him as their father would stretch to the Pacific Ocean.
He, Huo Zhenyang, was not so easily deceived or dismissed.
Mu Qingran choked up, "Zhenyang, don’t you trust me? Do you think this lab report is fabricated by me?"
"Why should I trust you?" He was succinct, his words clear and resounding, silencing Mu Qingran.
Immediately after, she held back tears, a desolate smile on her face: "Alright, let the examination happen, the innocent will clear themselves."
Mu Qingran and Dr. Han left together.
Twenty minutes later, they returned.
"President," Dr. Han reported truthfully, "Miss Mu is indeed pregnant, for about over a month."
The atmosphere in the living room turned silent instantly.
Aside from the subtle hint of joy on Mu Qingran’s lips, no one else spoke up for a long time.
The fact of Mu Qingran’s pregnancy was now undeniable.
"I want the specific date of conception," Huo Zhenyang demanded coldly.
"Based on Miss Mu’s last menstrual period, it should be around the 20th of last month," Dr. Han said.
Which coincided exactly with the evening they had dinner at Huo Garden.
Huo Zhenyang’s gaze deepened, dark as the nether flames, as though a fierce undertow was accumulating, yet it was indecipherable.
"Zhenyang, now you should know I didn’t lie to you," Mu Qingran spoke as if wronged deeply, carefully approaching the man. She bowed her head to glance at her barely noticeable belly, and then extended her hand to catch his wrist: "Zhenyang, feel my stomach, here... there’s your child."
Jiayi watched, feeling as though the breakfast she had the day before was about to come back up.
"Dr. Han, take Miss Mu away first," Huo Zhenyang pronounced each word distinctly.
Mu Qingran’s hand hung in the air before retracting. Under the repeated urging of Dr. Han, she could only leave, tears in her eyes and reluctance in her heart.
The moment Mu Qingran stepped out the door, Jiayi, not wanting to stay a moment longer, stood up. She gave a deep, indecipherable look at the man on the sofa—not indifferent, yet colder than indifference—then headed upstairs.
A gust of wind breezed past her back as the man’s breath closed in. He caught her delicate wrist, his tone slightly angry, as frustrated with Mu Qingran’s antics as he was with his inability to recall that night’s events: "Don’t you want to hear my explanation?"
Explanations? Were they necessary?
Hadn’t he already acknowledged it? Hadn’t the other party come with evidence in hand?
She withdrew her wrist, slipping through his strong fingers, and continued straight upstairs.
————
That afternoon, ever since Miss Mu from Banan Vineyard had come over once, the atmosphere in the villa had stiffened, devoid of any of the festivity and sweetness that followed the recent engagement.
The nannies and two servants in the villa were all trembling with fear.
Huo Zhenyang had official business to attend to in the afternoon and couldn’t possibly stay at the villa all the time. After instructing the staff to take good care of Jiayi, he left with a somber expression.
At night, after the nanny prepared dinner, Jiayi ate quietly, managing only a few bites before losing her appetite. Just as she was about to go upstairs, footsteps sounded at the door.
"Is President Gu here? Young Master Huo went to play golf with President Zhao of Qiaonan Construction this afternoon and hasn’t returned yet," the villa’s nanny said politely at the door.
"It’s alright, I’m not here to see Young Master Huo. You all can go now."
The man’s voice was mellow and pleasant, comforting like a spring breeze, and strikingly familiar.
Jiayi paused, looked over, and saw that it was Samuel.
After the servants retreated to their quarters, Samuel watched Jiayi with a gentle gaze and said, "Jiayi, about what happened at the villa this afternoon, I’ve already heard it from Zhenyang. Could you listen to what I have to say?"
The young man’s eyes were as blue as the ocean, inexplicably comforting.
Jiayi’s heart gradually eased, and she couldn’t help but lift the corners of her lips, forcing a smile, "Samuel, you’re not going to speak in his defense, are you?"
She obviously knew about Samuel’s old schoolmate and friendship with Huo Zhenyang.
"I’m not here to make excuses for anyone. However, Zhenyang and I have been friends for many years, and I know him best. So far, in this world, I’ve only ever seen him be this patient and willing to put in effort towards two women; one was his deceased aunt, and the other is you, Jiayi."
Jiayi didn’t speak for a long time. These flattering words might have moved her before she met Mu Qingran today, but now...
She suddenly looked up, gazing at him sincerely, "Since you’re his long-time friend, you must know him quite well. So, I want to ask you two questions. Can you answer them for me?"
Samuel’s eyelashes flickered, "Go ahead." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Jiayi took a deep breath, "Has he always been ambitious, wanting to take over the entire Huo Group, and perhaps even eager to do so?"
Samuel’s eyes narrowed, unsure why she would ask such a thing, but he nonetheless replied honestly, "A successful man would certainly not be satisfied with the status quo. He’s bound to pursue a higher status. He is no exception and indeed wants to take control as soon as possible."
Jiayi smiled lightly, "Then, has he always known that the old man would only transfer the full shares of the group to him once he sees him engaged or married?"
Suddenly, Samuel understood her meaning.
It turned out that she was suspecting Huo Zhenyang’s engagement had an ulterior motive.
Seeing Samuel’s silence, Jiayi understood—the answer was affirmative.
Enough, no need to ask further.
Perhaps, just as Mu Qingran said, he never had any real love for her.
His involvement with her was only to reassure the old man that he had settled down, and then the control of the group would be handed over to him.
From start to finish, her relationship with him was always a transaction, and it had never changed.
Yet she had actually believed that their relationship had become real.
Ridiculous.
A self-mocking wry smile surfaced on her lips.
——
It was past eleven o’clock at night.
Huo Zhenyang came back.
As soon as he entered the villa, the nanny came forward with slippers, then took the coat off the man, which reeked of alcohol.
He looked up, glancing at the tightly closed white bedroom door on the second floor.
"Has Miss Jiayi gone to bed?" He was considering whether to go upstairs now to coax her properly.
"Yes, she went upstairs after dinner. Just like this afternoon, she locked the door and hasn’t come down since. She’s probably asleep by now," the nanny answered.
