Chapter 2113: I Just Learned This Too!

The collapsing Essence Mu World could no longer afford Mei Jingya even a moment of hesitation. She raised her voice and yelled, “It’s the Star Core and the Starlight Curtain!”

At her words, Shang Xia’s expression stirred slightly. “What are those?”

Mei Jingya shook her head. “When the origin of the void currents flooded that day, the Star Origin Lord suddenly descended and allied with the experts of the Gathered Sea of Stars. The Sages of the Flood Star Region were completely unprepared. The Essence Zhen Heavenly Field was dissolved by the void currents. During that time, Sage Shan Lao questioned the Star Origin Lord across the void, why he would collude with the Gathered Sea of Stars, and what it would take for him to spare the Essence Zhen World. The Star Origin Lord’s response was that Shan Lao should return the Starlight Curtain to him.”

As she spoke, Mei Jingya glanced at Shang Xia. Seeing no reaction from him, she continued, “Shan Lao replied that the matter was a grudge between the Star Origin Lord and his elders, and that he knew nothing about the Starlight Curtain.”

Shang Xia looked at her and frowned. “So they never mentioned the Star Core?”

“The Star Core...” Mei Jingya continued, “It was brought up by someone from the Gathered Sea of Stars. At that time, one of their experts, whose cultivation was no weaker than Shan Lao, suddenly interrupted and said that the loss of the Starlight Curtain was not a problem. It could always be rewoven from starlight. But the Star Core, something that comes from the Star River, was unique beyond anything they could get their hands on. He suggested that the Star Origin Lord share it with the others, and in return, they would help him reweave the Starlight Curtain.”

Shang Xia fell silent and became lost in thought after she had spoken. After a while, he asked, “Is that it?”

“That’s all.” Mei Jingya replied. “Those were the only words I heard.”

Shang Xia frowned. “Were you the only one who heard this conversation, or did others in the Flood Star Region hear it too?”

Mei Jingya answered without hesitation, “Aside from Shan Lao, the Star Origin Lord, and that Gathered Sea of Stars expert who seemed to be at the grand completion stage of the Martial Emptiness Realm, I was probably the only other person who heard it.”

“Why you?” Shang Xia asked.

Mei Jingya, whose cultivation had only just reached the fourth star, was neither the strongest nor the weakest among the dozens of Sages in the Flood Star Region. Yet how could she, of all people, overhear a private exchange between several Sages at the grand completion stage when others could not?

Under Shang Xia’s intense gaze, Mei Jingya hesitated, but soon realized what he was getting at and quickly explained, “It’s because of my Essence Mu World’s unique nature! My Essence Mu World was originally born from a Void Spiritual Tree. It’s an anomaly that eventually evolved into a complete world. Over generations, it grew into an Essence World through the efforts of countless cultivators.”

“That ancient Void Spiritual Tree, though not many had seen it, had already merged completely with the Essence Mu World. Its roots extended into the void itself, becoming the anchor that stabilized the world in the void. Because of that, our world inherited certain spiritual and mysterious properties. As a Sage of the Essence Mu World, when I use the World’s Will, I can use those invisible roots within the void to eavesdrop on high-level exchanges occurring beyond ordinary perception.”

“When the void currents flooded that day, it destroyed even the Essence Zhen Heavenly Field. The Essence Mu World, being the nearest Essence World to it, was in grave danger of suffering the same fate. To stabilize our position in the void, I had to fully mobilize the World’s Will, using those hidden roots to anchor it. It was during that process that I accidentally overheard the brief exchange between the Star Origin Lord and the others.”

After hearing her explanation, Shang Xia could not help but exclaim, “Such a phenomenon exists? Incredible! But no... Something’s off. How many others besides you know the truth about the Essence Mu World’s origin?”

Mei Jingya’s expression dimmed. “Sage Shang, looks like you have already guessed it. Aside from our proximity to the Essence Zhen Heavenly Field, my Essence Mu World’s unique nature is the reason it was chosen by the Flood Star Region as the sacrificial piece to be cast into the origin of the void currents.”

Shang Xia nodded slightly. He largely believed her account.

The mention of the Star Core and the references to the Star River were too specific to have been fabricated. Combined with the Essence Mu World’s anomalies, everything came together.

A deep rumble echoed through the void as the Essence Mu World continued to sink further into the origin of the void currents. The erosion of the world was growing more intense, and Shang Xia could see with his naked eyes the violent depletion of world origin surging out from within the world itself.

At its current rate, it would not be long before the world was torn between the two Star Fields. By then, any rescue would already be too late.

Seeing Mei Jingya’s eyes fixed on him with desperate hope, Shang Xia took a deep breath and said solemnly, “Prepare to sever your world.”

A crude and brutal way was like what Kou Chongxue did with his sword qi, which once cut continents from a world by force.

A deliberate, premeditated severance, however, was like the one unfolding in the Essence Mu World. Its power and essence had long been concentrated into specific regions. The earth veins, spatial barriers, and even the heavenly screen had been meticulously prepared for separation. When the moment came, the chosen regions could be detached from the world with minimal loss.

Mei Jingya and the Essence Mu World had clearly chosen the latter method. As the process began, everything happened rapidly. Even without Shang Xia’s direct intervention, the prepared provinces were already breaking apart, splitting from the rest of the world with the guidance of the World’s Will.

Everything appeared to proceed smoothly, but that was when the true trial began.

It was likely that many forces within the Flood Star Region had already sensed the Essence Mu World’s intent to preserve its essence and heritage by breaking apart their world.

Under such circumstances, neither the Flood Star Region nor the Gathered Sea of Stars would possibly allow it to succeed easily.

The instant it occurred and the continents started to separate, a gigantic hand broke through the void currents and pressed down from afar.

Only a high-level Sage could ignore the corrosion of the void currents and strike directly through it.

Yet before the colossal hand could land, Shang Xia sensed invisible roots extending from the void surrounding the Essence Mu World. They wove themselves above the floating continents into layers of unseen barriers.

With each root that snapped, the void trembled violently, shaking the floating continents downward bit by bit. In the end, the enormous hand still failed to strike the provinces.

This time, Mei Jingya did not ask for Shang Xia’s aid. She had mobilized the last of the Essence Mu World’s Will to block an attack from a high-level Sage.

But the danger was far from over. With the continents torn away, the main body of the Essence Mu World was shattered, allowing torrents of void currents to fill it. Suddenly, the current twisted into massive whirlwinds that roared toward the separated continents.

That was the work of the Gathered Sea of Stars’ experts!

On the other side of the lake of chaos, through the fractured barriers of the Essence Mu World, they too had struck, trying to drag the floating continents back.

In her desperate situation, Mei Jingya and those of her world had no strength left to resist. All their hope rested on Shang Xia.

“Controlling the void currents?” Shang Xia smiled faintly. “As it happens, I also just learned how to do so.”
