Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 113—Relationships
Above ground in Michael’s hideout, both Linda and Bryan were in a large battle against the two Michael’s followers.
Linda’s opponent had an ice-related Innate spirit granting him ice abilities, which was a heavy counter to Linda’s own abilities.
Bryan’s opponent, on the other hand, used a spear, and his abilities seemed to point towards that too.
Overall, the two of them were holding their own and could even be said to be overpowering their opponents, but things weren’t just that easy.
Though their opponents were Dormant-level spiriters, the stat boost provided by the dark energy made them much stronger than any Dormant-level spiriter.
The battle raged on with the two students using all they had against their opponents. They finally won after Linda used an extremely amplified flaming slash to break her opponent’s defenses and deliver a lethal strike.
Bryan won his own side of the battle by actually affecting his opponent’s spirituality and then finishing him off with a Buddha palm.
"Damn, these bastards were tough," Linda said in anger while observing the injuries all over her body.
"Yes, they are," Bryan replied.
The two of them turned back to look in the direction they came in, but they couldn’t see anyone coming.
"Cole," Linda muttered.
"I hope he is okay."
The two of them stood there pondering if they should go looking for Cole or check the inside of the buildings first.
"Let’s head in first; Cole should be able to hold on," Bryan said with a strangely confident voice.
"You think so?" Linda asked.
"I strongly believe, yes," Bryan responded.
The two of them looked away from the road and turned to the building.
"Let’s head in then."
The air grew slightly tense as the duo approached the deathly quiet building. They remained especially careful as they entered through the door.
Inside the building was a living room-like area where Micheal had previously departed. The duo scanned the whole area but didn’t find anything suspicious.
Since they couldn’t find anything, they proceeded to other parts of the building. They moved from room to room and corner to corner, but they just couldn’t find any sign of the kids.
"This is weird. Really weird," Bryan spoke up.
Linda nodded her head in concurrence while a look of suspicion appeared on her face.
"If the kids aren’t here, then where are they?"
The two of them thought for a while, trying to figure out any point or get any idea where the kids could be.
"Ohhh, I think I do," Bryan said with a smile.
"Be fast and share it already," Linda asked.
"The only time and place we were unable to track him. The only place where most things like this can go unnoticed."
"The underground," Linda completed.
"Exactly."
"But before we go searching for anything, we need to find Cole first," Bryan said.
"Right, let’s head out,"
The duo left the building and rushed out as fast as they possibly could. Heading back in the direction they came in. Their eyes scanned everywhere while they pricked their ears to listen to any sound of battle.
The two of them moved from one area to another, hoping to find anything, but they just couldn’t.
"They must have been here," Linda said while observing the damage to the ground and the building.
"Then you mustn’t be too far away," Bryan said.
Seeing that location gave the duo hope, giving them the drive to search more thoroughly.
They looked around until they arrived at a point that caught their attention.
"A hatch to the underground, and it is open,"
"Did they move the battle there?"
"If they did, that would explain why we couldn’t find any signs of them here."
The two then didn’t waste any time and directly went down the hatch. In the underground area, Bryan looked at all of the road directions and turned to a random one.
"Let’s head there," Bryan said while pointing in a random direction.
Linda didn’t even attempt to refute; she just quietly obeyed his words and followed him.
From that point on, the two followed Bryan’s gut until they arrived at a specific quiet side of the underground.
"Cole," The two shouted out as they rushed to meet Cole unconscious.
Seeing him being mostly okay apart from the injuries here and there all over his body. They quickly breathed a sigh of relief.
Linda slowly raised her head away from Cole and looked towards the person that was also lying not too far away from Cole.
"I think he is dead," Bryan said.
Linda clenched her teeth as she stood up to her feet and began approaching the body.
"The fight must have been a tough and slightly personal one," She said while standing above the body.
"Why did you say that?" Bryan asked from Cole’s side.
"His face is showing so much grief and resentment," Linds said in a soft voice.
The underground area suddenly grew silent as the two stopped speaking as if they were in a mourning state.
Linda’s eyes stared at the walls of the underground space as she checked the damage.
"How could Cole cause so much damage, how could he even kill such an enemy?"
"He is still at the Dormant-level isn’t he?"
"There’s no saying for sure; Cole is really unpredictable," Bryan said.
"He is, he really is."
"Let’s head back up now; we will report after we are done with the mission."
"This body can’t be left alone here,"
The moment he finished saying that, Bryan picked up Cole’s body and began returning in the direction he came in with Linda following closely behind him.
In no time, the group returned to the front of the building that used to be Michael’s hideout.
"Now we only have to wait for Cole to regain consciousness again," Bryan said while sitting.
The two of them sat in different, separate locations as their minds wandered in a quite distant direction.
A few hours later, they noticed some movements in Cole.
"Ughhhhh," Cole groaned while holding his head.
