Chapter 359: Fatal Solution

One of the coping mechanisms that Cassandra had when it came to dealing with difficult situations was to pack away all of the negative emotions, and never think of them. It was a coping mechanism that she had used extensively over the years.

But never as much as she had done in the months following her husband’s death. She had pushed everything to the side, making herself forget in an attempt to not hurt anymore. One of the things that she had pushed away was that at the time of Jasper’s death,

Their anniversary had been only a few weeks away. Her original plan had been to wear her wedding dress again for another photo shoot.

When Derek had destroyed her dress, she had put that plan aside. And then when her Jasper had died, she had given up on any celebrations whatsoever. But now, 20 years later, she was learning that Jasper had been trying to save her dream. That wonderful man had actually taken time out of his busy schedule to look for somebody to fix her dress as a surprise.

"The dress is still at the warehouse. Father had it protected so it still looks as new as it did all of those years ago," Derek said. And that was what finally got Cassandra crying in earnest.

If she were asked to describe her late husband’s personality. Cassandra would have used one word, thoughtful. Her Jasper had been thoughtful. For twenty years he had been gone and Cassandra had not thought of her wedding dress. But thanks to his thoughtfulness all of those years ago, she was learning, that he had not only managed to have it fixed back then. But that the dress was still in good shape. What Cassandra had done to deserve such a man, she did not know, but she would always be grateful. And even more than she was grateful for the dress.

She would always be thankful for him, for giving her a son as wonderful as Derek.

Wiping away at her tears, Cassandra smiled at her son.

"Twenty years late, two decades out of time, and that man has still managed to find the perfect anniversary gift for me," She said, coughing lightly to try and clear her throat.

Despite growing older, Cassandra’s proportions had not changed much over the years. She knew that she would look ridiculous putting the dress on, but she was still going to do it. It had been her Jasper’s wish, and she was going to fulfill it.Maybe she would even make a photoshoot of herself in the dress.

"If it were possible, I would be bringing that dress to myself right now,"

Cassandra had not meant to say that part out loud. But once the words were out, she did not regret them. She would have looked silly, an old woman clutching a wedding dress in the middle of the hospital. But she would not have cared.

It would have been a little piece of her Jasper’s love in her hands. Even so, Cassandra expected the words to just be disregarded by the other occupants of the room.

The statement was meant to be just some throw-away thing, the ramblings of an old woman. But Derek suddenly gasped at her words, sitting up too quick and letting out a pained hiss as a result.

"Derek, do not move like that. You’ll hurt yourself," She admonished, while she helped him settle back down but he was shaking his head. No longer looking as drowsy as he had been a few seconds prior.

"No, that last part, say it again,"

"What...you mean about me having the dress brought here if I could?" He nodded at that. Then he looked at all three of the women in the room.

"That’s it. That’s the answer to our problem," Cassandra looked at the other women in the room. Being met with faces that were as confused as she felt. Was Derek alright?

"What problem and what solution?" Emily asked on behalf of all of them.

"My uncle, it’s the way that we can get him.

Going out there and hunting him will take too much time. Knowing him, he will skip from country to country, making it harder to track him down. But if we can bring him here, then our problem will be solved," Derek said. The three of them stared at him in concern.

Maybe her son had hit his head during the fall into the water. Cassandra was seriously contemplating pressing the call button, and having one of the nurses come and check to see if he’d suffered an injury that they had been unaware of.

Did he seriously think that his uncle would come back just to be arrested?

It seemed that Emily Molson was of the same mind as her because she said exactly what Cassandra was thinking.

"After learning that we are alive. I highly doubt that your uncle will simply get up from wherever he is and come back. He might be a lot of things, but he’s not the type to just walk himself into a situation that will end with him behind bars,"

Derek smiled down at her, dropping a kiss on the side of her head before looking back up at Jane and Cassandra.

"That’s exactly it. He does not know that we are alive. When the two of you left him at his penthouse, he was of the mind that something was wrong, right? That is what you said when you left," Cassandra looked to Jane, then back to her son, the two of them nodding in unison.

"Exactly, as far as my uncle knew, when he left.Emily and I were experiencing some difficulties. He left the country as a way to protect himself no matter the outcome. But wherever he is, he’s still waiting to find out what happened. If he were to learn that we died, then as far as he would be concerned, he’s home free," Derek was actually starting to make a lot of sense.

"The memory card has been broken into pieces, and there’s a chance that no information will be retrieved from it. As far as he knows, only Emily and I knew about the red car. If he were to find out something happened to us. He would feel free to come back. Thinking he will just destroy the car and be home free,"

"For that to happen...Emily and I need to die..."
