Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 40: She Finally Left
Serena Yardley felt she was already exercising a great deal of restraint.
Aside from the unwanted tears streaming down her face, she hadn’t cried out loud or thrown a tantrum. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
’Even so, why was Ethan still not satisfied?’
She sat with her head down, letting the driver take Ethan to Sylvia Schuyler’s apartment building before taking her back home.
As Ethan Yardley got out of the car, he instructed the driver, "Make sure you take her all the way home. Don’t let her get out halfway."
The driver replied, "Yes, boss."
In fact, Serena Yardley didn’t ask to be let out of the car on the way.
She returned home quietly and went calmly to Ethan Yardley’s study.
She didn’t know where the Divorce Agreement Ethan had asked her to sign was, so she found a template online and printed out two new copies.
This Divorce Agreement, however, was very simple.
She wasn’t asking for anything—not a single cent of alimony or any property.
After printing and signing them, she placed them in a document folder, then went back to her room to pack her bags.
She really didn’t want to leave at all.
She didn’t want to leave the man who had taken care of her and paid for her education since she was a child.
But rather than stay here in such agony, she’d rather just disappear.
Only by leaving would Ethan not be put in a difficult position.
But Serena Yardley didn’t leave that night.
The next morning, she got up, had breakfast, and came downstairs with her suitcase. Seeing Mrs. Miller clearing the table, she handed the document folder to her and said:
"Mrs. Miller, I’ve made plans with a classmate to go on a trip. I’ll be back in a few days. This is a very important document that Ethan needs. Please give it to him when he gets back."
Mrs. Miller believed her. She took it and replied, "Alright, I’ll remember to give it to Mr. Yardley. And Miss Serena, where are you going on your trip? Does Mr. Yardley know?"
"He knows. In fact, he’s the one who booked my plane ticket. I’ll bring you back a gift. Well, Mrs. Miller, I’ll be going now."
"Okay, Miss Serena. Travel safely."
Listening to Mrs. Miller’s caring voice, Serena Yardley fought back the reluctance and pain in her heart as she dragged her suitcase out of the house she had lived in for half a year.
When she reached the courtyard gate, she turned to look back at the large house, thinking of all the little moments she had shared with Ethan here, of every scene when they were so passionately in love...
Serena Yardley felt that for every extra second she lingered, her raw, bleeding heart would hurt that much more.
’I can’t take this torment anymore. I have to escape.’
’I have to go somewhere without Ethan, have this baby, and give it to the Yardley Family. That way, I won’t owe him anything anymore.’
She turned around, her eyes welling with tears.
Serena Yardley’s steps were heavy, each one a struggle as she moved away from the only home she had in this world.
What she didn’t notice was that in a black car not far away, Gabriel Galloway was watching her, his face a mask of heartache and concern.
And then, he followed her.
Serena Yardley didn’t know where she was going.
She wasn’t familiar with the world outside.
She had grown up in this city and had never traveled far, never been on a plane or a high-speed train.
Still, she took a car to the high-speed rail station.
She bought a ticket for a five-hour high-speed train ride. As the train pulled away from the city she knew so well, she couldn’t help but cry again.
She wept as she watched the cityscape disappear from view, thinking of how good Ethan had been to her all these years, until she was sobbing uncontrollably.
At some point, a tissue was suddenly offered to her.
Serena Yardley looked up.
She was surprised to see it was Gabriel Galloway.
Gabriel Galloway sat down across from her and asked, "What are you going to Benton for? Why start crying the moment you got on the train?"
Raina had told him everything—that Serena and Ethan Yardley weren’t in love, and that some woman was pretending to be Ethan Yardley’s fiancée.
Although the child’s story was vague, Gabriel Galloway understood. It was highly likely that Ethan Yardley had someone else on the side.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have run away from home.
Serena Yardley took the tissue and hurriedly wiped the tears from her cheeks. She avoided his question, asking, "What are you doing here?"
"I was worried about you."
He told her the truth.
Serena Yardley avoided his gaze, turning her head to look out the train window.
"Gabriel, I’m already married. And I told you from the very beginning that I don’t like you."
’So don’t waste your time on me.’
’I’m not worth it.’
’Ethan saved my life. He’s the one who gave me this privileged life all these years.’
’My whole heart belongs to him.’
’Even if we divorce, even if we never see each other again, I could never forget him in this lifetime.’
"I know."
Gabriel Galloway didn’t press the issue, just gave a sad smile. "But I just can’t give up. Serena, you love your Ethan, and I love my Serena. Those two things don’t conflict."
Everyone said that he, Gabriel Galloway, was a cynical and carefree playboy.
But no one knew how agonizing it was to want something he couldn’t have.
Especially after finding out the girl he liked was already married.
He could stay out of her marriage, but he just couldn’t bear to see her unhappy.
’She’s such a wonderful girl. How could Ethan Yardley have the heart to hurt her and make her cry?’
He lifted his slender arm, wanting to reach out and touch her tear-streaked cheek.
But Serena Yardley coldly pulled away.
She no longer looked at him, saying icily:
"I don’t care if you’ve been following me or not, but I don’t want to be with you, and I certainly don’t want to get entangled with you. When we get off the train, please stay away from me."
Gabriel Galloway’s hand froze in mid-air before he slowly pulled it back.
He pressed his lips together, not saying a word, his expression dark as he joined her in looking out the window.
...
「Serene Empire Tower.」
Ethan Yardley had just gotten off work. ’Thinking about that woman at home still giving him the cold shoulder, he figured he should head back and check on her.’
He arrived home at six in the evening.
Ethan Yardley pushed the door open and walked in. Mrs. Miller hurried over to take his suit jacket. "Mr. Yardley, you’re back."
"Mhm. Serena’s here, right?" he asked casually.
Mrs. Miller was puzzled. "Didn’t Miss Serena go on a trip?"
Ethan Yardley’s cold gaze fell on Mrs. Miller. "What did you say?"
"Miss Serena left first thing this morning. I asked her about it, and she said you knew. She even said you were the one who booked her plane ticket and that she was meeting a classmate for a trip."
Ethan Yardley was speechless.
’Serena left?’
Knowing it was impossible that she had gone on a trip, Ethan Yardley pulled out his phone to make a call.
Mrs. Miller quickly added, "Oh, right, Mr. Yardley. Miss Serena asked me to give you a document folder."
Mrs. Miller quickly retrieved the folder and handed it to Ethan Yardley.
Ethan Yardley didn’t know what it was, but as he opened it, he had a bad feeling.
His heart inexplicably tightened.
When he pulled out the documents inside and saw the words *Divorce Agreement*, his pupils contracted. His face turned grim, his eyes sharp and menacing.
Then, when he saw the name ’Serena Yardley’ written neatly in the bottom right corner, he flew into a rage and ripped the papers to shreds.
He whirled around and snapped at Mrs. Miller, "Why didn’t you call me when she left? You should have stopped her!"
Startled, Mrs. Miller quickly pulled out her phone to call Serena Yardley.
But her phone was off.
She looked at Ethan Yardley, distressed. "Mr. Yardley, Miss Serena’s phone is off."
Ethan Yardley snatched the phone from her and dialed his assistant’s number.
As soon as the call connected, he roared in a humiliating rage:
"You have one hour. Find out where Serena Yardley is right now. I want her brought back to me tonight, no matter what."
’How dare she try to divorce me without taking a single thing from me?’
’Where does she think she can run?’
’As long as I don’t agree, I’ll hunt her to the ends of the earth and drag her back.’
