Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Admitting He Wronged Her

The OB/GYN director listened without prying into Wren Sutton’s private life. Instead, she earnestly advised her not to make the wrong decision on impulse.

"Miss Sutton, forgive my bluntness, but any type of abortion will cause harm to the pregnant woman. Some of the damage is even irreversible and can lead to lifelong infertility."

Wren Sutton was shocked and a little frightened. "Lifelong infertility?"

The director nodded, her tone serious. "I’m not trying to scare you; you can ask around. Of course, the chances of lifelong infertility are very low, affecting only a handful of cases. But when assessing risks, we can’t discount something just because it’s rare. You understand what I mean, right?"

Wren Sutton’s mind was a mess. "I understand," she said in a small voice.

"So, go home and think it over carefully. You’re welcome to come back and register for prenatal care anytime."

The director was clearly hoping Wren Sutton would decide to keep the baby.

Wren Sutton felt lost. She understood the director’s good intentions, said her thanks, and stood up to leave with a heavy heart.

Wren Sutton never in a million years expected to be pregnant with twins. The unavoidable dilemma was once again before her: keep them or not?

The more she thought about it, the more upset she became. This decision was just too difficult. Neither choice felt like the right answer.

’This is agonizing.’

Stepping out of the hospital lobby, the sunlight fell on her. Wren Sutton took a deep breath to calm herself.

She temporarily pushed the question of what to do about the baby to the back of her mind, hailed a cab by the roadside, and headed straight for Wellspring Orthopedic Hospital.

...

Old Mrs. Lancaster was seriously injured, with fractures in her lumbar spine and ankle. Fortunately, she hadn’t injured her head.

Director Wallace and several leading orthopedic surgeons consulted on her case. Based on the MRI results and their years of clinical experience, they unanimously agreed that surgery was the best option.

However, surgery is riskier for the elderly than for younger people. That’s undeniable. Not even Valerius reborn could guarantee a risk-free surgery.

Therefore, the hospital left the final decision to the Lancaster family.

"Mr. Lancaster, please discuss with the family whether or not to proceed with surgery for Old Mrs. Lancaster. Let me know when you have a decision."

Director Wallace was highly respected. Facing the Lancasters, he was neither servile nor overbearing, his presence commanding.

"I understand your meaning, Director Wallace. We’ll make a decision as soon as possible." Theodore Lancaster’s demeanor was gentle, his every move elegant, revealing his deep-seated good breeding. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"Good. Please be as quick as you can."

Director Wallace nodded, then left with the other doctors. Adrian Lancaster personally saw them to the door.

"Young Master Lancaster, please, don’t trouble yourself."

Just then, Adrian Lancaster caught a glimpse of a familiar figure in his peripheral vision. He turned his head and saw it was Wren Sutton.

Wren Sutton saw him too.

Their eyes met.

Adrian Lancaster casually closed the door and walked toward her.

"How is Grandmother now?" Wren Sutton stopped and asked anxiously.

Adrian Lancaster’s expression was grim. "Fractures in her lumbar spine and ankle. She needs surgery."

A pained look crossed Wren Sutton’s face, and her eyes welled up with sadness. "It’s that serious."

Adrian Lancaster felt awful, too, but he was a man; at times like this, he had to remain calm and composed.

His dark, deep eyes met Wren Sutton’s, and his voice was low. "And you? How did your follow-up go?"

"It was fine," Wren Sutton said, her tone heavy.

Adrian Lancaster’s Adam’s apple bobbed. The words she had said this morning flashed through his mind.

Because of his recklessness and lack of restraint, Wren Sutton had suffered a ruptured corpus luteum. On the day of her surgery, she had been at the hospital all alone.

Adrian Lancaster admitted to himself that he had wronged Wren Sutton in this matter. Thinking of the pain she must have endured, he was overcome with remorse and couldn’t stop himself from pulling her into his arms.

He knew she resented him, perhaps even hated him. He didn’t blame her for it.

"It won’t happen again."

Adrian Lancaster nuzzled Wren Sutton’s ear.

"From now on, I’ll be careful."

Wren Sutton’s heart hammered in her chest as she listened.

’From now on...’

’What "from now on"? In his dreams!’

’I will never sleep with him again in this lifetime. I’ll never give him another chance to hurt me.’

"Let’s just talk. There are a lot of people in the hospital. Let go of me."

"Just a little longer."

Wren Sutton didn’t want to be held. She struggled and pushed Adrian Lancaster away.

"We don’t have time for this! Hurry up and take me to see Grandmother."

Pushed away, Adrian Lancaster wasn’t the least bit angry.

The circumstances were special. He understood how Wren Sutton was feeling and didn’t blame her. He said nothing more, just took her hand and led her to Old Mrs. Lancaster’s room.

They had only taken a few steps when the sound of high heels clicked behind them.

"Adrian..."

Both Adrian Lancaster and Wren Sutton recognized Ms. Sterling’s voice.

Claire Sterling walked quickly, catching up to them in the blink of an eye and stopping in front of them.

Upon seeing Wren Sutton, Claire Sterling’s expression soured, as usual.

"What are you doing here?"

Claire Sterling demanded haughtily, never considering Wren Sutton’s feelings. She was used to this tone and saw nothing wrong with it.

It had been this way for four years.

Wren Sutton was worried about Old Mrs. Lancaster and was in no mood to deal with Claire Sterling. She certainly didn’t expect Adrian Lancaster to defend her.

"I’m going to see Grandmother."

She pulled her hand free and walked ahead without a backward glance, her back straight and proud.

Claire Sterling was furious. "What kind of attitude is that? She has absolutely no manners."

Adrian Lancaster felt a headache coming on. "Mom, that’s enough. We’re in a hospital."

Claire Sterling wouldn’t go so far as to make a scene. She knew her status and wouldn’t do anything to embarrass the Lancaster family.

But seeing Adrian Lancaster speak up for Wren Sutton made her feel it was unfair.

"I’m your mother. You’re scolding me instead of her?"

Adrian Lancaster watched Wren Sutton’s retreating back. "She’s also Mrs. Lancaster. That’s enough. Stop giving her such a hard time."
