Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 79: Pregnant with Twins
Wren Sutton’s heart skipped a beat, her pulse quickening with anxiety.
She hadn’t expected Adrian Lancaster to actually remember her check-up, let alone offer to go with her!
’No, I absolutely can’t let him go.’
Nanny Lawson brought breakfast to the table.
Wren Sutton sat to Adrian Lancaster’s right, deliberately eating slowly as she tried to think of a plan, stealing glances at him from the corner of her eye.
Adrian Lancaster noticed she was distracted and not enjoying her food with her usual relish.
"Is the breakfast not to your liking? I’ll have Nanny Lawson make you something else."
Wren Sutton waved her hand. "No, that’s not necessary. Everything Nanny Lawson makes is to my taste. It’s delicious."
Adrian Lancaster believed her. After a few seconds of silence, he changed the subject.
"What time is your hospital appointment?"
He only knew the check-up was today, not the exact time.
"Ten o’clock," Wren Sutton answered honestly, knowing she couldn’t hide it.
Adrian Lancaster gave a low hum of acknowledgment. "That gives us plenty of time. I’ll go with you after breakfast."
Wren Sutton felt a headache coming on.
’When she had her surgery, when she needed him, he wasn’t there.’
’Now that she didn’t need him for a check-up, he was offering to tag along. But rejecting him outright might make him suspicious. What a pain.’
Wren Sutton composed herself, chose her words carefully, and said in a gentle tone, "Today’s a workday. You have a lot to deal with at the company. You go handle your business. I can drive myself to the hospital."
Adrian Lancaster didn’t agree. He picked up his cup and took a sip of coffee, his movements elegant.
"Kevin Dawson is at the company. He’ll handle anything that comes up. You don’t need to worry about it. I’ve already made the arrangements."
Wren Sutton patiently pressed on, her voice pleasant and her face even graced with a slight smile, looking the part of a well-behaved and understanding wife.
"What I mean is, I’ll be fine going to the hospital by myself. It’s not like I absolutely need someone to go with me. I’m not a child, right?"
Adrian Lancaster stared at her, his long, deep-set eyes turning frosty.
"You’ve said all this, but it just means one thing: you don’t want me to go with you to the check-up."
Wren Sutton pressed her lips together. "No, it’s not that, I..."
Adrian Lancaster’s tone suddenly turned cold. "Then who do you want to go with you?"
Seeing that he was completely intractable, responding to neither gentle persuasion nor firm reasoning, and was now questioning her instead, the temper Wren Sutton had been suppressing suddenly flared up.
"I don’t need anyone to go with me. This is my own business, and I don’t need you to worry about it."
"When I was lying in the operating room, I called you, begged you to come to the hospital and be with me, but you didn’t come."
"So now, when I’m just going for a check-up, what’s the point of you tagging along?"
Adrian Lancaster’s face darkened, his jaw tight and his eyes turning dangerous.
With a CLACK, he slammed the coffee cup down on the table, the veins on the back of his hand popping out.
Now that the pretense was shattered, Wren Sutton saw no reason to hold back any longer. She let it all out.
"There are some things you know full well, and I don’t want to say any more about them. In any case, you are not coming with me to the hospital."
Adrian Lancaster coldly averted his gaze. "You don’t get to make decisions for me."
Wren Sutton was speechless. "I’ve made myself perfectly clear. Are you still going to force me?"
"I’m concerned about you."
Wren Sutton was having none of it. "I don’t need it."
Adrian Lancaster gritted his teeth. "Wren Sutton, don’t be ungrateful."
Just then, Nanny Lawson walked over, a worried expression on her face.
She had been in the kitchen and vaguely overheard words like "surgery" and "check-up," which made her heart pound with fear.
"Master Adrian, Young Madam, please don’t fight. Arguing harms a couple’s relationship."
Wren Sutton took a deep breath, reining in her emotions.
"Nanny Lawson, I’m fine. You’ve been busy all morning, you should go to your room and rest for a bit."
How could Nanny Lawson possibly be in the mood to rest? "Young Madam, when you mentioned a surgery and a check-up just now, were you talking about yourself?"
Wren Sutton nodded.
Nanny Lawson’s heart ached for her. "What kind of surgery? Are you all better now?"
Wren Sutton understood Nanny Lawson’s concern, but she really didn’t want to think about that incident again. Every time she remembered it, her heart ached anew.
"Nanny Lawson, I’m going to the hospital for a check-up today. I’m hoping for a good result, too."
"Good people are blessed by heaven. I’m sure it will be."
The moment Nanny Lawson finished speaking, Adrian Lancaster’s phone rang.
Seeing the number was from the old family residence, he answered immediately.
"Young Master, something’s happened! The old madam fell down the stairs. We’ve already contacted a hospital, and the ambulance is on its way."
Adrian Lancaster shot to his feet. "Which hospital?"
"Wellspring." It was Aston’s most prestigious private orthopedic hospital.
"I’m on my way." Adrian Lancaster hung up.
"Master Adrian, what happened? Who’s at the hospital now?"
"Grandmother fell."
"What!" Nanny Lawson’s heart leaped into her throat, and she was overcome with anxiety.
Falls were the most dangerous thing for the elderly.
Adrian Lancaster’s expression was grave. "I’m going to the hospital first. We’ll talk when I get back."
"I’m going too." With the old madam in trouble, Nanny Lawson couldn’t possibly stay at home. She wished she could fly to her side that very instant.
Adrian Lancaster agreed. "Alright."
Wren Sutton stood up as well, equally worried and pained. "I want to go with you."
Adrian Lancaster hesitated for a moment, then agreed.
The three of them rushed to Wellspring in the same car. Along the way, they happened to pass the hospital where Wren Sutton had her check-up appointment.
Adrian Lancaster changed his mind and ordered the driver to stop.
"Why are we stopping here?" Wren asked.
Adrian Lancaster was concise. "You go in for your check-up. Nanny Lawson and I will go to Wellspring. After you’re done here, I’ll arrange for the driver to come back and take you to Wellspring."
Nanny Lawson felt the same way.
"Young Madam, your health is important too; you can’t be careless. As for the old madam, don’t you worry. With me and Master Adrian there, she won’t lack for care."
Wren Sutton thought it over seriously and agreed with Adrian Lancaster’s suggestion.
’This way, she wouldn’t have to worry about her pregnancy being exposed.’
Wren Sutton got out of the car and walked into the hospital. The Rolls-Royce sped away.
At her scheduled appointment time, Wren Sutton met with the head of the gynecology department. The two exchanged a few pleasantries.
After a series of professional examinations, the results were very optimistic. Wren Sutton’s body was recovering well.
The doctor was both relieved and pleasantly surprised, because the ultrasound clearly detected that Wren Sutton was pregnant.
"It’s simply a miracle. These two babies are so lucky."
Wren Sutton was stunned for a moment, thinking she must have misheard. "Two?"
"That’s right. You’re carrying twins."
"..." Wren Sutton was shocked. The previous doctor hadn’t said anything about this.
She touched her stomach, an indescribable feeling washing over her—a mix of joy and sorrow.
’So there were two little lives in here, not just one.’
The head of gynecology was happy for Wren Sutton.
"The babies are very healthy. Take good care of yourself during the pregnancy. Since you’re here today, we might as well set up your file. You’ll need to come in for prenatal check-ups on schedule. Our hospital’s obstetrics and gynecology department provides one-on-one service for all patients, ensuring every expectant mother receives the most professional care."
Wren Sutton heard the words but didn’t seem to process them. She remained silent, lost in thought.
"Miss Sutton, is something wrong?" the department head asked with concern.
Wren Sutton pulled herself from her thoughts and shook her head. "I’m not in a hurry to set up a file right now."
"Why is that?"
Wren Sutton was struggling with a painful internal conflict.
"Because I’m not sure if I want to keep these two children."
