Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 59: It’s Been a Long Time Since I Kissed Her
A familiar, chilling male scent washed over her. Adrian Lancaster’s chiseled face grew larger and larger, his cold eyes brewing a storm.
Wren Sutton instinctively wrapped her arms around her stomach, her brow furrowed in alarm. "Don’t touch me."
The very thought of being this close to Adrian Lancaster repulsed her.
The thought that this man had held Maya Marshall, had slept with her, made Wren’s stomach turn.
Adrian’s dark eyes narrowed. He pressed his lips close to Wren’s ear and spoke in a venomous whisper, "If I can’t touch you, who can? Who else could possibly satisfy you, hmm?"
Then, his long, slender fingers gently caressed her cheek, his eyes fixed on her lips.
’It’s been a long time since I’ve kissed her.’
"Is it because it’s been too long since I’ve touched you that you’ve become so disobedient, opposing me at every turn?"
Hearing his loaded question, Wren went rigid, her breathing quickening with anxiety.
The searing heat in his eyes, combined with the warmth of his fingertips, made her heart pound with terror.
She knew exactly what it meant.
On so many nights past, she had reveled in it, letting Adrian take complete control, willingly losing herself to him.
The same passion she once felt was now matched only by her fear.
"I don’t feel well. Please, don’t do anything reckless." Wren quickly backed down.
Nanny Lawson was downstairs, and Lucia was dead drunk. Wren was completely isolated and helpless; she didn’t dare provoke Adrian right now.
When he went wild, especially in bed, it was terrifying. The consequences would be unthinkable.
"If I really intended to have my way with you, do you think you’d still be lying there, fully clothed? I’d have already..."
Desire raw in his voice, Adrian finished the sentence, nibbling on Wren’s ear.
Wren swallowed her humiliation, not daring to move a muscle.
Overwhelmed by fear and anxiety, her eyes began to water without her realizing. The rims turned red, making her look like a pitiful, helpless rabbit.
...Adrian’s gaze darkened. His Adam’s apple bobbed as his body temperature continued to climb.
Wren’s heart-wrenching expression was practically daring him to cross the line. An intimate memory flashed in his mind: the image of her, beneath him, whimpering and begging for mercy.
"Crying in a man’s bed, do you know what that means?"
Adrian had never denied Wren’s allure. Her perfect body made his blood race, and the self-control he was so proud of was utterly worthless in her presence.
Love aside, they were incredibly compatible in bed, their chemistry perfect.
He had been holding back lately because of her health. He didn’t like forcing women, and he disdained the very idea.
Wren parted her tightly sealed lips to stubbornly deny it. "I’m not crying."
Adrian stroked her hair, twisting a lock around his finger. His expression was dark and unreadable.
"Your eyes are so red, one might think I’ve been bullying you mercilessly."
Wren turned her head away, furious but not daring to argue.
Although Adrian hadn’t violated her, the hard ridge of his arousal pressed insistently against her. She didn’t dare make a single rash move, terrified of provoking him further.
"I haven’t actually done anything to you. What’s with the wronged expression?"
Anxiety gnawed at Wren. She was stretched taut like a wire, not daring to relax for even a second. Her voice was on the verge of breaking into a sob.
"Then can you please get off me?"
At her words, Adrian lifted himself up slightly.
His desire unslaked, pinning Wren down like this was actually agonizing for him, too. He was propped up purely on willpower, struggling to hold back.
"There’s plenty of time. After your follow-up appointment, I’ll collect what I’m owed, with interest."
...Wren’s heart clenched in panic at his words, but she still let out a sigh of relief. At least she was safe for the moment.
’I’ll deal with the future when it comes. As long as I don’t come back to this house, Adrian won’t have a chance to touch me.’
’Once I get through the cooling-off period, I’ll be completely free.’
"Be a good girl and sleep in the master bedroom. I won’t touch you. Otherwise, don’t expect to walk comfortably out of bed tomorrow. I’m not joking." Adrian laid out his terms.
Wren gritted her teeth in hatred, but with no other choice, she was forced to agree.
Adrian rolled off the bed and stalked into the bathroom for a cold shower, his face a mask of raw, unfulfilled desire.
Listening to the sound of the shower running in the bathroom, Wren closed her eyes as two miserable tears streamed down her face.
"Bastard."
...
When Adrian came out of the bathroom, it was Wren’s turn to go in.
Adrian was worried about Lucia, so he had Nanny Lawson stay by her side, telling her to call him immediately if anything happened.
Nanny Lawson had no complaints. She would have volunteered to look after Lucia even if Adrian hadn’t asked.
After her shower, Wren lingered in the bathroom, not wanting to come out.
’Right now, she desperately hoped Maya would call and lure Adrian away.’
’She truly couldn’t bear the thought of sharing a bed with him. Even with his promise not to touch her, she was still unwilling. Her aversion was visceral, almost physiological.’
「Half an hour later.」
Drowsiness washed over Wren. She leaned against the door, starting to doze off. She couldn’t fight to keep her eyes open any longer.
She pulled the door open and dragged her exhausted body out.
Adrian was leaning against the headboard, reading the latest issue of a finance magazine.
Wren didn’t disturb him. She walked around to the other side of the bed, pulled back the covers, and immediately lay down to sleep.
Adrian’s gaze lifted from his magazine and fell upon Wren.
His brow furrowed, and his expression turned cold.
’She was sleeping with her back to him again.’
’In the past, she’d have wrapped herself around him like an octopus all night. She used to be impossibly clingy.’
SLAM. Adrian tossed the magazine onto the nightstand.
"Don’t go to sleep yet. I have something to ask you."
Wren was already half-asleep. "Let’s talk tomorrow," she mumbled.
Adrian couldn’t wait. He reached out, pulling her into his arms and holding her from behind.
Wren tumbled into his embrace, his body heat seeping through her pajamas to her skin.
His hot breath washed over her, sending a jolt like an electric current from her ear through her entire body.
It melted away her sleepiness, snapping her awake.
"Why did you sell the blue diamond necklace?"
...
"Short on cash?"
Wren didn’t answer, and Adrian took her silence as confirmation.
Once he realized this was the reason, Adrian found he wasn’t as angry anymore.
’In his eyes, money was the most worthless thing.’
’He’d just canceled her black card, and she was already scheming to sell her things. She wasn’t stupid, at least; she knew to pick the most valuable item.’
"You sold the necklace this time. What are you planning to sell next?"
Wren wasn’t foolish enough to tell him the truth. She played along, giving a vague, noncommittal answer. "Haven’t thought about it yet."
He knew she was being flippant, so he didn’t press the issue.
’One hundred million. That’s enough to last her a while. She won’t need to bother selling anything else from the house.’
Wren lay with her eyes open, her mind growing clearer by the second.
’Adrian only questioned why she sold the necklace, but didn’t say a single word about him buying it. She couldn’t be bothered to ask, either.’
’The answer was obvious. Asking would just be inviting humiliation.’
And with that, the matter of the necklace was closed. Neither of them brought it up again.
Just as Wren thought she could finally get some sleep, she suddenly heard Adrian say, "Call me ’darling,’ and I’ll reactivate your black card. Same as before—unlimited."
