Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 46: Do you have plans tonight?
Wren Sutton was suspicious but kept it to herself. She quietly looked away and rolled up the car window.
’Maybe I’m overthinking it,’ she thought. ’Mr. Bell could have just been going to The Rhodes Group for business. There are a lot of people in that company; it doesn’t necessarily mean he was there to see Adrian Lancaster.’
And even if he was there to see Adrian, and Adrian recognized the necklace on the spot, Wren wasn’t afraid.
Since it was agreed upon as a gift to her, she had every right to do with it as she pleased. Selling it was perfectly reasonable.
The car drove steadily down the road.
"Are we going home, or somewhere else?" Isla Griffith asked, her hands on the steering wheel.
Wren quietly pulled herself from her thoughts.
’It’s a weekday, so Adrian definitely won’t be at our villa.’
"Let’s go there. I’ve been staying at my mom’s these past few days, and I still have a lot of things to pack up."
Isla Griffith understood what she meant.
"Okay. I’m free today, so I can help you move."
Thinking of the move, she did a quick mental calculation.
"The cooling-off period ends in about half a month, right?"
"About that." Wren had counted the days precisely. "Not including today, there are eighteen days left."
She couldn’t help but sigh. "I used to think time flew by. Why are these thirty days crawling so slowly? Every day feels like a year."
Isla tried to comfort her. "Time always feels slow when you have something on your mind. Don’t worry. The sun will rise and set, and that day will come."
Wren nodded and gave a knowing smile.
"Another reason is that I’m just idle at home every day with nothing to do. My life doesn’t feel full, so the days feel slow."
"It’s not hard to make your life feel full. You can either get a job or travel. If I were you, I’d choose to travel. The job can wait. You’ve been a nanny and a secretary all these years. It’s about time you gave yourself a break. Take half a year off, at least," Isla said.
Wren didn’t argue.
For the past few years, she had been constantly busy, her entire life revolving around Adrian Lancaster. She had dedicated all her time and energy to him, shuttling between home and the company. She had never left Aston, let alone gone on a vacation.
Adrian, on the other hand, made time every year to go on vacation with Maya Marshall, taking her out to eat, drink, and enjoy life.
"Now that you mention it, I feel like leaving on a trip tomorrow."
Isla was all for it. "Then go! Take a spur-of-the-moment trip. It doesn’t matter where you go; the important thing is just to go. Traveling really does help you relax."
Wren was tempted.
She had money and no job at the moment. It was indeed the perfect time to travel and unwind.
’But on second thought, leaving tomorrow isn’t realistic,’ she mused. ’I have to wait until after my hospital check-up to make sure I’m okay before I can just up and leave.’
"My check-up is in a few days. After that, I’ll put traveling on my agenda."
"Sounds good. If I have time then, we can go together."
"Even better."
Half an hour later, Isla drove into the villa’s driveway.
Wren hadn’t been back in many days. Returning now, she felt an indescribable emotion.
It was familiar yet strange, strange yet familiar.
"Where’s your housekeeper? I saw her the last time I was here."
Wren didn’t seem to care and headed straight upstairs. "I guess Adrian fired her."
She couldn’t be bothered to wonder why.
Isla didn’t ask any more questions and followed her upstairs to help pack.
Wren had a lot of things to move, far too much to take in one go. After deciding what to prioritize, she managed to pack four full suitcases for the day.
She just had to finish moving everything before the cooling-off period ended. Taking too much at once would make her intentions obvious.
Wren didn’t want any complications before she had the divorce certificate in hand.
After loading the suitcases into the trunk, Wren went back into the living room and brought out two bottles of water.
She would take a short break and then leave immediately. She didn’t want to stay a minute longer; she had lost all emotional attachment to this so-called home.
...
The Lancaster Group, CEO’s Office.
Mr. Bell knocked and entered. Only Maya Marshall was inside; Adrian Lancaster was nowhere to be seen.
"Ms. Marshall, I’ve acquired the necklace."
Maya happily rose from the sofa, a glint in her eye.
"Quick, let me see it."
Mr. Bell brought the item over and handed it to her.
Maya eagerly opened the box.
When she saw the blue diamond necklace, she was stunned speechless, captivated by its beauty.
’It’s absolutely gorgeous.’
’If I wear it to dinner with Adrian tonight, it will look even more dazzling under the lights.’
Maya couldn’t put it down, imagining how she would look wearing it. ’I’ll be breathtakingly beautiful,’ she thought.
"You’re sure it’s authentic?"
Mr. Bell was confident and certain. "Rest assured, Ms. Marshall. This necklace is absolutely genuine. I wouldn’t make a mistake in my appraisal."
"Good."
Satisfied, Maya put the necklace away.
She wanted to surprise Adrian, so she couldn’t let him see it before dinner.
Having completed his task, Mr. Bell took his leave.
Not long after, Adrian returned to the office from a meeting. He pushed the door open to find Maya asleep on the sofa.
He walked over quietly, took off his jacket, and draped it over her.
Maya smelled a familiar scent and knew it was Adrian. She deliberately let out a soft, delicate hum and then groggily opened her eyes.
"Is your meeting over?"
"Mhm." Adrian brought her a glass of warm water and helped her sit up. "Have some water. It’ll soothe your throat."
"Thanks."
Adrian glanced at the time. "I have a few documents to get through, then I’ll take you to dinner."
Cradling the water glass, Maya nodded obediently. "Okay, I’ll wait for you."
Adrian’s expression was gentle. He patted her head as if she were a pet, then turned and walked to his desk.
A sweet feeling filled Maya’s heart. When Adrian wasn’t looking, she snapped a photo, blurring the background to highlight the man’s suit jacket she was wearing. The picture showed half of her face with a dreamy look in her eyes.
[Working overtime with him~]
...
Isla Griffith helped Wren Sutton move the suitcases to Amberwood Estates.
Just as they got inside, Isla’s agent called. There was an important meeting at the company, and she had to go back immediately.
Isla hung up and grumbled, "Another meeting. It’s so annoying."
Wren soothed her, "It comes with the territory."
Isla sighed helplessly. "Well, I’m off then."
Wren saw her best friend downstairs, waving as she watched the car drive away.
Only when the car was completely out of sight did she turn and go back inside.
After two hours of organizing, Wren finally emptied the four suitcases, putting everything away in its proper place in her new home.
With her personal belongings filling the space, the house felt more like a home.
The sky gradually darkened.
Wren didn’t plan on spending the night there. She locked the door and left.
As she neared the entrance to the estates, a black Bentley brushed past her. It drove about thirty feet ahead before reversing and stopping beside her.
The window rolled down, revealing Sean Sterling’s face. He looked at Wren with surprise.
"I thought I was seeing things. I can’t believe it’s really you."
Wren was just as surprised.
As far as she knew, Sean Sterling didn’t live here.
Sean got out of the car and stood across from Wren at a polite distance, his demeanor gentlemanly and elegant.
"Do you have friends in Amberwood Estates?"
For the time being, Wren didn’t want too many people to know she’d bought a place here, especially not anyone close to Adrian Lancaster.
"Yes, a friend of mine lives here." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Sean subtly probed, "Isla Griffith?"
Wren remained calm. "No, it’s another friend."
’If you’re going to lie, you might as well see it through.’
Sean simply said, "Oh," and didn’t press the matter, immediately changing the subject.
"I see you didn’t drive. Where are you headed? I can give you a ride."
Wren politely declined. "I wouldn’t want to trouble you. I can just get a cab."
Sean wasn’t reassured.
"It’ll be dark soon. It’s not safe for a woman to take a cab alone. Since you see me as a big brother, just listen to me this once, okay?"
"..." Wren was in a difficult position.
"Or, I could call Adrian and have him come pick you up. Either way, I’m not letting you take a cab by yourself."
Sean wasn’t joking; he actually took out his phone.
"..." Wren was completely defeated.
She would much rather take a ride from Sean than have Adrian deign to pick her up.
Besides, Adrian was currently "working overtime" with Maya. He wouldn’t have the time or the inclination to come get her.
She wasn’t about to subject herself to that kind of humiliation again.
"Alright, I’ll ride with you."
Sean smiled gently, put his phone away, and personally opened the car door for Wren.
Wren was pleasantly surprised and flattered.
After they both got in, the driver pulled away from Amberwood Estates.
During the ride, Wren gathered her thoughts.
"Sean, do you have plans tonight?"
Sean looked at her, his gaze deep. "No."
Wren spoke freely, "Then let me treat you to dinner."
